In the early hours of a quiet Sunday morning, a homeowner faced a harrowing encounter that underscores the unpredictability of threats and the importance of being prepared for self-defense. At approximately 2 a.m. on Frisby Street in Monticello, 56-year-old Tracy Kidd allegedly entered a residence uninvited, causing alarm to the homeowner. The sudden intrusion prompted a swift response from the homeowner, who, in defense of their safety, fired a single shot at Kidd, striking him. Immediately following the incident, the homeowner called 911 to report the situation.

Retired Supreme Court Justice Stephen Breyer is making the rounds in support of his new book released this week, Reading the Constitution: Why I Chose Pragmatism, Not Textualism. The subtitle really tells the story of the work. Breyer has written a volume critiquing the current Supreme Court majority’s approach to interpreting and applying the Constitution. A Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Request was filed Tuesday with the Department of Justice by this correspondent to obtain information on the newly announced National Extreme Risk Protection Order (ERPO) Resource Center. “[The Center] will provide training and technical assistance to law enforcement officials, prosecutors, attorneys, judges, clinicians, victim service and social service providers, community organizations, and behavioral health professionals responsible for implementing laws designed to keep guns out of the hands of people who pose a threat to themselves or others,” the Office of Public Affairs, U.S. Department of Justice announced Saturday. |

Republican Gov. Glenn Youngkin of Virginia demonstrated the importance of election outcomes Tuesday when he wielded his veto pen to stop more than two-dozen gun control bills, leaving Democrats furious. In a veto message, Youngkin removed any doubt about his position, stating, “I swore an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States of America and the Constitution of Virginia, and that absolutely includes protecting the right of law-abiding Virginians to keep and bear arms.” He didn’t stop there. |

According to the CDC, there are some 16,000 accidental firearm injuries each year in the U.S., and some reports place the number even higher. The question is: why? It's important to note that a significant percentage of these injuries may be unreported assaults. Also, the statistics mentioned pertain to discharges that have resulted in an injury, and it’s reasonable to assume that far more unintentional discharges have not caused injury and thus go unreported. Complacency around routine tasks with firearms is the culprit behind most of these incidents. |
