Following his State of the Union (SOTU) speech earlier this month, in which President Joe Biden yelled, “Band [sic] ‘assault weapons’ now!”, the president predictably included the same demand last week in remarks at the National Association of Counties legislative conference. “I’m gonna say something that’s always controversial but there is no rationale for assault weapons and magazines that hold 50, 70 bullets. Got it done once. Gonna do it again.”

Learning from one’s own misfortunes is smart, but it’s wiser to learn from—and avoid—the misfortunes of others. For American Second Amendment supporters, the Canadian experience provides a chilling and instructive lesson in what gun controllers really want: the end of civilian firearm ownership.

Rep. Elissa Slotkin has reintroduced the Safe Guns, Safe Kids Act in an effort to protect U.S. citizens from gun violence.

The U.S. House of Representatives says the bill, first introduced in the wake of the mass shooting at Oxford High School, would require firearms to be stored properly so that guns stay out of the hands of children and criminals.

If it becomes law, a penalty of five years behind bars may be imposed in the event a child manages to gain access to a gun and cause injury.

We’re told Slotkin also plans to co-sponsor the Assault Weapons Ban of 2023 and Bipartisan Background Checks Act.

Once again, it appears Washington State’s state firearms preemption statute has survived another attempt by Democrats to repeal it, but grassroots gun rights activists are not letting down their guard.

House Bill 1178 sought to repeal the nearly-40-year-old law, which has served as a model for many if not most of the other 40-plus preemption statutes around the country. Seven western Washington mayors, all from the Puget Sound region, sent a letter to the Legislature supporting the measure.

An appeal is expected in the case challenging Illinois’ and Naperville’s gun and magazine ban. Gun rights groups expect the ruling to be overturned. The case challenging Naperville’s gun and magazine ban was filed in September. It was amended last month to include the state’s ban that was enacted on Jan. 10. After a hearing last month, Judge Virginia Kendall ruled the ban on certain weapons is “consistent” with the “historical tradition of firearms regulation.”

The Second Amendment Foundation and its partners in the case of Miller v. Bonta, challenging California’s ban on so-called “assault weapons,” have filed a responding brief in the case, countering defense arguments and strategies already rejected by federal courts and the U.S. Supreme Court. “Our reply takes the state to task for going directly against the instructions of the federal court,” said SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan M. Gottlieb. “The state spent its entire 25-page brief trying to re-litigate the case, essentially arguing for ‘interest balancing’ by the court, which the Supreme Court nixed last year in its landmark Bruen ruling.

If you’ve never purchased a firearm before, the process might seem a little intimidating—but we promise, it’s not. Deciding what to buy is the difficult part! Once you’re ready to make a purchase, the process is simple. First, understand that this process applies to buying from an FFL (Federal Firearms License) holder. To legally sell guns as a business or with regularity, an individual or a business must hold a valid FFL issued by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, which we commonly refer to using the acronym ATF.

These semi-automatic .22 LR rifles have grown from 1950s bargain buys to 21st-century collectors’ darlings.

Every cowboy needs a revolver. I’ll admit that I carry a Glock 17 most places. However, when I dress Western, nothing beats the classic good looks of my Smith & Wesson (S&W) 586 .357 revolver. The deep blue metal contrasts nicely with the walnut grips, and it looks good on my hip. This is not John Wayne’s revolver – it is a modern work of art!

Violence, naked force, has settled more issues in history than has any other factor, and the contrary opinion is wishful thinking at its worst. Nations and peoples who forget this basic truth have always paid for it with their lives and freedoms. — Robert Heinlein
