NIAGARA FALLS, NEW YORK -- A would-be robber Thursday fled a 17th Street business, knife in hand, when a shopkeeper pulled a shotgun on him, Officer Lisa Marrone said.

The incident occurred at 2:46 p.m. when the suspect entered the Memory Lane Gift Shop, 7211/2 17th St., with a 6-inch, silver-bladed knife, demanded money and lunged over the store counter and cut Teddy Patronski on the left side of the nose with the weapon, Marrone said.

Patronski fell back and grabbed a shotgun he had behind the counter, causing the suspect to flee the scene empty-handed. He was last seen running north on West Market Street, Marrone said. The attempted robbery is being investigated by detectives Carl Berak and James Galie, police said.
