A Few Questions for Rosie O'Puppet

"I'm sorry, but I just don't get Rosie O'Donnell. I've seen her in three or four movies now, and she has generally had the same effect on me as fingernails on a blackboard. She's harsh and abrupt and staccato and doesn't seem to be having any fun. She looks mean."

--Roger Ebert, when reviewing a movie called "Exit to Eden" in which Rosie was cast

KeepAndBearArms.com -- We recently presented an Ask Rosie page on our site, complete with a few of her most impressive quotes, and included a link to the "Ask Rosie" section of her own website. Following are the first responses we received, in the order in which they were received. The only editing that was done was for the occasional misspelled word -- or the expletives we do not print on this site very often (unless General Patton is saying them).  If you missed our Ask Rosie page and would like to send the high-thinking heroine a letter, go here: https://www.keepandbeararms.com/speakup/askrosie.asp.

Otherwise, read and enjoy...

Rosie,

If the Second Amendment is so gauche, shouldn't we get rid of the First as well? I mean, it must be so inconvenient to you to have commoners like me asking you impertinent questions? How about "ask a question, go to jail?" Shouldn't anybody who disagrees with you be put in prison? I mean, what is this, a democracy or something?

Rosie,

I am not White, as the Nazis define it, and I don't like Republicans any more than Democracks. Politicians are all basically self-serving. Websters defines it as "one who is engaged in politics: often used with implications of seeking personal or partisan gain, scheming, etc." (Do you see anything about we the people in there?)

My question is: Do you think I should burn my NRA card?

419 Guys,

I sent this off after reading the invite on your website - thanks for the heads up - I'll use it on my Cable Accsess TV show - "Common Sense & Liberty". If you ever have a chance to get to Bay Area of Calif. let me know and we will put you on the show. Ad Libertas, Sic Semper Tyrannis- Scott

I have had a chance to observe your stand against Freedom & Liberty (spouting the very same reasons the NAZIs and Stalin used [http://www.jpfo.org/L-laws.htm]- freedom is so precious that you need to ration it - can't you people think up something new?). It causes me to wonder once the Constitution is restored and the Bill of Rights are enforced... exactly which country were you planning to move to? -Scott PS-You won't like Switzerland or Israel either - Just a hint.

Rosie -

If it is true that ". . . it never, ever was interpreted that the Second Amendment meant individual's right to bear arms", what . . . I say what, are we going to do with this!?:

"The Second Amendment protects the right of the people to keep and bear arms."

Dear Rosie,

I am a single mother who works as a freelance commercial artist in Indiana. My work often takes me into Chicago and sometimes don't return home until late at night.

I ran low on gas on my last trip there and pulled off the Ryan to gas up in a rundown section of the city. A large man came out of the shadows by the gas pumps, showed me a knife, and grabbed my arm. He told me he would really hurt me if I yelled and ordered me to give him my keys and get in the car with him.

I can't tell you how scared I was. All I could think of was never seeing my little girl again. I reached into my coat pocket for my keys but instead brought out my little handgun my father gave me for protection. I pointed it at him just as I had been trained and he let go of my arm and took off running. I was so numb I just got in my car and drove off.

His features are burned into my memory, and I could draw the police a portrait that is as accurate as a photograph. My mother says that I owe it to other women to report him and that I don't have to tell the police about my gun, and besides, they wouldn't really put me in jail just for defending myself. But my father says if I report it to the police they'll find out all the facts and I will go to jail for illegally carrying a gun in Illinois. He says it is not worth it and that the other ladies in Illinois just have to live with it.

I don't know what to do. I am afraid he is still out there preying on other women and I feel so guilty. I don't want to go to jail and be separated from my family but if some other woman is taken and raped because I won't report it I won't be able to live with myself.

We have agreed to abide by your decision on this. Should I report this attack to the police knowing I'll probably go to jail for illegally carrying a handgun, or should I just forget it and try to live with my conscience?

This was the question I send to Rosie:

You once said of the NRA, "The only life that is important to them is white, Republican life. "

Can you please visit www.BlackManWithAGun.net and give your comments? Thanks.

Dear Rosie:

What are you going to do when your magazine folds. It will surely fold, because you have antagonized so many people. The people will not buy your magazine, you will not have enough circulation to make the magazine self-sustaining, and your magazine will go bankrupt.

---

Date: Wed, 11 Jul 2001 23:46:25 -0500

Rosie,

This is more of a comment instead of a question.

I have watched your show, occasionally, now for several years. And I have to admit that I like you and your show, but I have never heard you talk about the "Second Amendment" or gun control. I was shocked to see the statements that you have made about these issues on www.KeepAndBearArms.com.

I can understand anyone's objection to violence and death, because I share those feelings with you. But that doesn't mean that we should get rid of the guns. In fact, the more of us that own guns, the less likely that someone will try to burglarize or try to kill one of us. If an assailant THINKS or KNOWS that the person he is attacking is armed then it is very likely that he will change his mind about attacking that person. You may even agree with me on this issue.

You are probably more concerned with the safety of children as am I.

The solution is not gun control or the abolishment of arms. The solution is in "raising up a child in the way he should go and when he is old he will not depart from it". That's a quote from the Bible. First of all, children should be raised properly, in a good Christian home and taught to highly respect firearms. They should be taught the proper use of a gun and that it is to be reverenced and never pointed at someone. But instead, kids are taught from their youngest age to play "cops and robbers" or "cowboys and indians" with toy guns. Their parents take their kids to the movies to watch Jean Claude Van Damme or Arnold Swarzenegger or some other violent movie with constant gun fights. Then the kids come home and play their shooting video games, like Mortal Kombat. Then we wonder why kids don't respect guns and the first thing they do when they find a real gun is to go shoot it!!

Whenever we want to train people to fly we put them in an airplane "simulator" because it simulates the real thing. And with hours and hours of practice they are finally prepared for reality. So it is with our children. We train them up in the simulator of our home, which includes all of the above violent actions, and then when they go out into the real world they do what they've learned in their simulator for the last eighteen years of their life!! They practice what they've been allowed to simulate.

You don't solve this problem by removing the guns. You solve the problem by changing people from the inside out. First you change their heart and the actions will follow.

There are two books I recommend you read. They were written by a Christian Lawyer who has researched the original intent of the founding fathers and he quotes them verbatim from their numerous writings and court cases. He uses the founding fathers words, not his own and he gives excellent bibliography for those people who wish to research his work. The first book is called: "The Second Amendment: Preserving The Inalienable Right Of Individual Self-Protection" and the second book I recommend is: "Original Intent: The Courts, The Constitution, & Religion" by the Author David Barton. You can buy his books at www.wallbuilders.com. I highly recommend this Author, he is very intelligent and knowledgeable. I would even like to see you put him on your show.

Thank you for your time.

"I know it's in the Constitution. But you know what? Enough! I would like to say, I think there should be a law--and I know this is extreme--that no one can have a gun in the U.S. If you have a gun, you go to jail. Only the police should have guns. It's ridiculous." --Rosie O'Donnell during interview with Carolyn McCarthy as quoted in the Ottawa Sun, April 29, 1999

Obviously what Rosie doesn't know is that not only is it (the 2nd Amendment) in the (our) Constitution, but that it is the second Article of our Bill of Rights. Rosie also appears not to know that the framers of our Constitution foresaw that there might come a day when the government attempted to do away with the rights outlined in the Bill of Rights. To prevent that from happening they worded our constitution so that the Bill of Rights could not be taken away from the people even if the majority of the people voted to nullify them. That is why we live in a Republic, not a Democracy. The Majority does not rule in our country. I thank our founders for their foresight otherwise the fools like Rosie might vote to make our country a socialist hell. Hey, but at least it'd be an un-armed socialist hell.

Furthermore the day that our government attempts to do away with the Bill of Rights I will personally join with like Americans to overthrow that government (also provide for in our constitution) and exercise my 2nd Amendment Right. I look forward to dying as little as the next person, but will accept the loss of our Freedom even less.

Do you ever worry that the paid bodyguards you depend on to "protect" your children will find their loyalty on another side? Perhaps to a higher bidder? I prefer to protect myself, by my own preparations and skills. I won´t give that up for anybody, and especially not you.

The question above was one I posed to Rosie when you first put her website on KABA. I never got a response, and I think it's worth repeating.

I just have one question. Per the following quote:" And it never, ever was interpreted that the Second Amendment meant individual's right to bear arms"

Rosie O'Donnell, Speaking with Katie Couric on NBC's "Today" June 2000 Why did our founding fathers not name the Bill of Rights the "States Bill of Rights"? Oh, that's right, they didn't name it the "States Bill of Rights" because that's not what it is! So, I guess the Second Amendment was meant to be an Individuals Right and it was the Gun Grabbing Anti's that are trying to change history and say it didn't.

Sincerely,

Chris Widowski

P.S. I also sent this to Rosie to see what she has to say.

Rosie,

Given your public antipathy to guns and gun owners, can you comment on why you feel safer with only the government owning guns, when Twentieth Century governments (many lawfully elected) have (by conservative estimates) killed more than 170,000,000 people?

The following is a quote from your TV show, don't you think this is a bit hypocritical since you employ armed bodyguards?

"I don't care if you want to hunt, I don't care if you think it's your right. I say, sorry, you are not allowed to own a gun, and if you do own a gun I think you should go to prison." Rosie O'Donnell on The Rosie O'Donnell Show April 19, 1999

Dear Rosie,

I was just visited rosiemagazine.com, and saw the following quote and your response.

Quote: The whole problem with the world is that fools and fanatics are always certain of themselves, but wiser people are so full of doubts. Bertrand Russell

Your response: Well, maybe. Could be. I'm not sure.

I now direct your attention to the following quotes.

"Of course I'm against them," Rosie answered, because they "do more harm than good." Rosie 0'Donnell speaking with Cokie Roberts about conceal carry laws on ABC's "This Week" the day before the Million Mom March

"I also think you should not buy a gun anywhere." Rosie 0'Donnel on same ABC's "This Week"

"The only life that is important to them is white, Republican life. " Rosie O'Donnell speaking about the NRA , National Review, June 17, 2000

I was just wondering, are you a fool, or just a gun fanatic?

Rosie. If you don't love our country, and our Constitution, then why do you not depart the United States and go live where you can feel safe and commit treason against our Constitution.

By the way. How is your body guard doing with his new issued side arm to protect you?

Dear Rosie:

I appreciate your concern for innocent shooting victims.

No doubt you are aware that there are certain kinds of expanding handgun bullets that do horrendous damage to the human body.

Do your armed body guards use these kind of bullets or do they employ safer, more humane ones?

---

Date: Thu, 12 Jul 2001 14:04:10 -0400

You have been quoted as saying that noone except police should be allowed to own guns.

Yet, it is reported that your childrens' body guard has applied for a permit to carry a concealed weapon.

I cannot afford an armed body guard for my family. Why do you think I should not have the means to protect my family just because I don't make the big bucks you do?

How can you live with yourself? How can you look yourself in the mirror, knowing that you and people who believe as you do are responsible for the deaths of hundreds of children each year? Gun control is not, and never will be the answer.

Dear Rosie: In the very likely-hood of a scenario such as this one, whom would you rather have in charge of the situation? After a long & tiring but fun day in the park celebrating your toddler's birthday with many of his/her toddler friends you say your "goodbyes" as the last guest leaves and head to your car with your African American girlfriend who is a Democrat. (you will see why those 2 facts are important to this story later). The bodyguard you hired hasn't been seen since he discreetly slipped away, with your permission, into the park's Men's Room. Both of you have just begun to load all the unwrapped gifts, left over food and trash (cos we know how eco-pure you are as well and since the park doesn't have politically correct labeled trash containers, you decide to take all the trash home to be sure it is disposed of properly so as not to mix up the recyclables)...as each of your children await nearby in their strollers, when suddenly, seemingly out of nowhere, 2 drug-crazed, gun wielding no-gooders grabs each of you from behind, tell you they caught your bodyguard with his "pants down" and have already killed him and demand your money, the goodies, your car and threaten to not only rape you both but do harm to your now screaming babies if you do not cooperate. Naturally you agree to let them have what they want...."ANYTHING!" you both screech..."JUST DON'T HURT OUR LITTLE CHILDREN, PLEASE!!!!" Instead of being content that you will make good on your promise to cooperate, the thugs decide to "make doubly sure" you do, so while one holds a gun on the two of you, the other turns to pounce on a child with his gun drawn. Ironically, the first guy glances over his shoulder to see which kid his buddy has chosen to be the "compliance victim" ... both their backs are facing you and you have only a split second to make your decision. All the afore mentioned screaming has not attracted any by standers to come to your aid, as this is after all, the New Millennium and people just don't get "involved" especially if there are "nasty guns" being brandished. You haven't heard nary a police siren either come to think of it....TICK, TICK, TICK...your split second is up ....what did you do????? Did you jump onto their turned backs? HMMM?! might work but you see, they have the upper hand cos they each have a gun and by jumping onto them it may accidentally set the gun(s) off and they ARE aimed at your children after all..... Did you scream some more hoping that would help???? HMMM?! again it might work but work to do what? Irritate these guys even more so they go ahead and pull the trigger(s) anyway? Or maybe your screaming so startled them that they panicked and got a shot or two off just the same... Did you begin to pray earnestly that someone, SOMEONE SURELY MUST have called the police by now and SURELY, SURELY they will arrive just in the nick of time like they do in the movies? HMMM?! Guess you are a victim of your own television "vision" there, Rosie! Luckily for you, your children, your friend, and your friend's children - she unbeknownst to you, had not only purchased a gun, (unregistered) but she learned how to handle one and was not afraid to use it! So, I say all this to ask you your own questions which I have pasted here for your reference: "Of course I'm against them," Rosie answered, because they "do more harm than good." My questions for you Mrs. Rosie are these.

#1 If it is your belief that "only police" should be allowed to #own a gun, how do you propose to train our younger generation who one day hope to become members of a police department?

#2 If only police will be allowed under your proposal to own guns, #who will defend our nation? As in military.

#3 If you wish to ignore the constitution, what's next on your agenda #of amendments you would like to see removed?

#4 Finally, If you see your proposals as a means of prevention, would #it be logical in your mind to cut off the penis of every man (excepting of course, an elite group you would hand pick for reproductive purposes ) in order to prevent rapes?

Too many women are raped and killed worldwide, in Arab countries "honor killing" of women who were unfortunate enough to be raped are murdered ruthlessly...Jordanian lawmakers quickly smashed a proposed law to stop this slaughter, including a recent case where a brother shot his sister to death for "shaming" the family because she was raped!...(no guns allowed in that country for civilians, yet it happened...So much for phony "gun control" there)...Women *need* to be able to fight back against violent predators, you clearly think that this is not an option...and to believe such a thing shows you are not in touch with reality...a fool...

My letter to Rosie follows (excuse me if you've heard it before - I repurposed my letter to the editor that was recently published in the Tribune Review):

Rosie,

I sometimes feel that so much has already been said. Facts have been proven, refuted, and distorted. One study after another is published and still more spring up to prove them all wrong. Average citizens are getting so bogged down in statistics, that we often can't see the issues for the debate. Your stance on gun control seems awfully extreme to me, especially when I consider that you make use of armed escorts. Do you advocate that they will be disarmed as well?

What the issue boils down to is a very simple and personal choice everyone must make to defend themselves and their loved ones from bodily harm in any manner they deem necessary. If you choose not to include a gun as one of the tools you would use, that's fine. But I cannot imagine why you would want to work so hard to ensure that should you ever be faced with a life-or-death situation, where a nearby and lawfully armed citizen might be able to protect you - he or she would not be able to because as you are advocating, all guns have been banned? I'd be willing to bet that under those circumstances, you wouldn't care one bit about the gun laws or whether your protector was lawfully carrying or not. Nor would you tell your possible protector, "No thanks, I'll wait for the police."

I can't help but believe that if everyone could just step back for a few minutes and quit trying to bury one another in rhetoric, they could allow themselves to bring it all home by reflecting on this one question, "What if it were me?" How would I feel about gun control if it were me being attacked by an intruder in my own home? What if I was the grandmother of the child who had been properly educated in the use of a gun, but was prevented from saving the lives of my other grandchildren (who were murdered by pitchfork) by a law that said it had to be locked up? Would I feel any differently about gun laws then? What if it was my father and mother I had to watch being murdered because I followed the law and left my firearm in my vehicle as we went to share what would be our last meal together? Could I live with myself for being a law-abiding citizen after that? Could I still support the law of the land if it had been my brother, whose gun was confiscated by police, that ! was found murdered by the thugs w

Would you Rosie, feel differently if you were not in a position to hire personal body guards and had to rely on your own skills to protect yourself and your family? Would you change your mind if you became the unfortunate victim of a violent crime?

Just out of curiosity. If you have your way and the UN comes in and removes the constitution, when they tell you that you are only allowed to do commercials for hybrid genetically altered seeds, and genetically altered chickens, and a new health plan for "the genetically challenged" children being born through out the world, will you still be attacking the intent and protection our founding fathers attempted to guarantee us when they wrote the bill of rights and the constitution?

Dear Rosie: Traffic deaths that were alcohol related in 1998 15,935 (www.madd.org) Murders by guns in the US for 1998 9,143 (1998 Uniform Crime Report) You read the number right, alcohol killed nearly 7,000 more people in the United States then all the gun-toting murderers. What about the cost to society, and I'm referring to dollars. Alcohol-related crashes cost society $45 billion, yet this conservative estimate does not include pain, suffering and lost quality of life. These indirect costs raise the alcohol-related crash figure to a staggering $116 billion in 1993. (Miller et al, 1996b) Firearms injury costs upwards of $4.0 billion annually, with $19.0 billion in additional indirect costs, such as lost potential earnings. (American College of Physicians, 1998) Alcohol related injuries cost 10 fold more than gun related injuries. Alcohol kills thousands of people every year, and costs billions, but where is the public uproar, where is the media coverage? Why aren't you on a crusade to outlaw alcohol? Oh I forgot, the elitist greatest fear is an armed society! Please respond, thank you.

If you as an ordinary citizen were at the side of the road alone, being threatened by one or more animals (two or four legged), should I offer to protect you? As it is my Christian duty to protect life as best as possible, should I use a CCW firearm (that you are against), should you be threatened with "imminent death or great bodily harm"? (Remember that I am NOT a civil servant (police). Would you be thankful that I stopped the attack on you, or would you rather be raped and /or dead? Remember, most of us ordinary folks cannot afford armed body guards.
