PORTLAND, OREGON --- The
Oregonian, Oregon's largest newspaper, admitted wrongdoing today in a closed
meeting arranged by the Tyranny Response Team, Oregon. The newspaper admitted
collusion with anti-gun extremist State Senator Ginny Burdick to continue her
campaign of fear and division against Oregon's CHL licensees.
In an editorial published on May 23rd, The
Oregonian referred to a "cross-check analysis" of Oregon CHL licensees
and claimed that this "analysis" revealed more than 1,000 who had
"criminal records which made them unsuitable for such licenses."
The obvious purpose of this announcement,
according to Lee Anderson, director of TRT, Oregon, was to create fear and
suspicion of CHL licensees amongst the public, a political step in the eventual
elimination of "right to carry" laws.
Only after weeks of inquiries by TRT did The
Oregonian finally admit that they learned of the "analysis" from
Senator Burdick.
However, the "analysis" seems to have
been a creation of Sen. Burdick's imagination. She has ignored an FOI request
for five weeks and all The Oregonian can say is that they understand it is not
ready for the public.
"We now believe this analysis never
existed and was cooked up either by Senator Burdick alone or in collusion with
The Oregonian," Anderson claimed.
"It has been Senator Burdick's agenda to
cut back the CHL law because she is afraid of folks who carry guns for defense
and she wants us all to share her fear," said Anderson. "And now we
have the Oregonian aiding and abetting this misguided effort.
"The Oregonian has failed in its civic
duty to inform the public and has chosen instead to mislead us. This is called
propaganda!"
Credible research exists in many states that
CHL licensees are the safest, most responsible group in society. A recent study
of Texas CHL licensees, for instance, revealed that they were one-sixth as
likely to be arrested for violent crime than the population at large! There is
no reason to believe Oregonians are any different.
"We have demanded from The Oregonian a
retraction and an apology to Oregon's CHL holders for this slanderous
distortion. We have also called on The Oregonian to demand the immediate
resignation of Senator Burdick for this egregious mis-use of her public
office," said a TRT, Oregon spokesperson.
