We have three children and have been regular Toys R Us shoppers until today. We have just learned that Toys R Us will not lease space in Time Square if the NRA is allowed to lease space.
We are responsible people who do not let our children play the video games sold in your store that glorify violence and demean life. We believe that exposure to such horrendous and graphic violence encourages disrespect for life. We notice that you do not boycott the numerous video arcades in Time Square that also promote such violence by children. We teach our children that the reason we don't allow the video games you sell in your stores is because those games promote violence solely as a form of entertainment regardless of the impact such “entertainment” has on children. Such “entertainment” is no more appropriate now than it was when the Romans pitted gladiator against gladiator or Christian against lion to fight to death in the name of “entertainment.”
We own guns. We teach our children that violence is a last resort and may be used only when self-defense is absolutely required. We attend church regularly. Although we are Catholic, we teach
our children the lessons of the Holocaust and the fact that Hitler was able to perpetrate that horrible genocide because Germany had no analogue to our own Second Amendment. We teach our children the words of the author of that great Amendment, James Madison:
“Americans have the right and advantage of being armed - unlike the citizens of other countries whose governments are afraid to trust the people with arms."
(The Federalist Papers No. 46 at 243-244.)
We are both lawyers and are law abiding and loyal citizens. The one thing we ceased to be today was Toys R Us customers. We recommend that you see the movie Patriot. We believe it will do you some
good; but then again, it probably won't. Your Rosie O'Donnell-like hypocrisy sickens us both.
