This is not a paid advertisement; it is an endorsement from a gun rights
leader who got all the right answers from this fellow and is sending him a
campaign donation -- from another state. ~ KeepAndBearArms.com
While I make no secret of my stand on the issues, I generally don't make
endorsements for specific candidates, Ron Paul being one of the few who comes to
mind. I need to make one more, because I have given my word. I have given it,
because the man in question, Duane Sand, candidate for the US Senate from North
Dakota, has given me his.
He's up against a genuine enemy of our right to keep and bear arms, incumbent
Democrat Kent Conrad, recipient of Gun Owners of America's coveted "F"
rating, and HCI's 100 % compliance rating.
At first, I was skeptical. Bob King, his Deputy Campaign Manager, approached
me for a contribution and to help spread the word, advising that "Duane
fully supports the 2nd Amendment and would back his personal beliefs up with
each vote in the Senate."
Well, gee, we gun owners have heard THAT before. So I wrote Mr. King back and
was none too delicate in expressing my concern with the depth of this
conviction. I told him if he wanted MY support, his guy was gonna have to do a
lot better than that, and sent him some TOUGH QUESTIONS that would, in my mind,
indicate EXACTLY where Mr. Sand stands on the issue- with no room for weasel
wording. Let him answer THESE, I said, figuring I'd never hear from them again,
and I'll be happy to support your candidate.
Ladies and gentlemen, Duane Sand stepped up to the plate and knocked the ball
out of the park. Here are my questions and his direct answers:
What is a right? Is it something granted by government, or is it something we
are born with that cannot be legally or morally infringed upon by government?
-The latter.-
Do you believe the Second Amendment grants a power to states to participate
in the National Guard, or do you believe that the "militia" it refers
to is the whole people, and that their inalienable right to keep and bear arms
shall not be infringed?
-The latter.-
Do you believe that the Second Amendment was written into the Bill of Rights
to preserve shooting sports and hunting, or do you think the Framers of the
Constitution wanted to ensure an ultimate check against tyranny via an armed
populace?
-The latter.-
Do you believe that "assault weapon" bans are
legitimate and necessary for public safety, or do you believe that they are an
illegitimate and unconstitutional means of depriving the militia of the means to
repel foreign and domestic tyranny?
-The latter.-
Do you support any form of weapon registration or licensing, or do you
believe such laws to be an infringement on the right of the people to keep and
bear arms?
-The latter.-
Do you think the Second Amendment allows for government to prohibit citizens
from carrying firearms in public places, either openly or concealed, or do you
think laws prohibiting bearing arms are unconstitutional?
-The latter.-
A Candidate's Pre-Oath of Office appears at: http://www.thelsas.org/pre_oath_of_office_by_daniel_j.htm.
Will you sign it?
-Yes.-
Fellow Second Amendment supporters, I ask you to show me another candidate
for Senate who has the guts to give these kinds of direct answers to RKBA
questions- the ones who aren't overtly hostile are tripping all over themselves
to distance themselves from this issue.
I am proud to support the candidacy of Duane Sand for the United States
Senate. I am asking you to support Duane as well, both by spreading this letter
to your gun owning friends, and by contributing to his campaign. My check will
go out in tomorrow's mail.
