Letter to
California Governor about Licensing
by Doug Hoffman

I wrote this letter to Gov Davis as my response to California's AB273 and legislation like it. I am a 24 year old electronics service engineer and veteran of the US Navy. Do not let these people ruin us. By the time it comes time to vote them out of office it will be to late. The time to act is now. Get vocal, get active, or suffer the
consequences. This is a war, no less important than the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960's. This goes way beyond segregation and affirmative action. This is our lives and
livelihoods at stake. This is a war, stand up and FIGHT! Or lie down and die.
To the Honorable Governor Davis;
Dear Sir,
I am writing today on behalf of every California gun owner, all 1 million or so of us. I have read the text of Assembly Bill 273 and I am appalled. This bill almost mirrors exactly Hitler's Gun Control Act of 1938. It is legislation like this that the Second Amendment of the US Constitution was designed to let us, the people, protect against. I own a number of firearms, most of them sporting, some of them collectibles, but one of them for home self defense. I am not a criminal. I have never been suspect of breaking the law. Most gun owners are a lot like
me; honest, hard working, and reputable. I urge you do veto AB 273. This bill will only serve to eventually take away my right to defend my family against those who don't care about registering their firearms.
I live in Salinas, the crime rate here is atrocious. For such a small town, we have entirely too many murders. I am also a Veteran of the US Navy. I served with honor and great pride that I was upholding and defending the foundations of this country. Now, I come home to find that all that I worked for and all that those who came before died for is being tossed aside like so much refuse.
In the 1960's, as I am sure you remember, the Constitution was being tossed aside as it pertained to minorities. This country was up in arms
for Civil Rights. A few small minded bigots such as the KKK and the Nazis wanted to see to it that no non white people were to be protected by the law of the land. Now, different versions of these same people are trying to deprive a faction of this great country of our protection under the law. This is still an issue of Civil Rights. The KKK
pretended to be ghosts of the Confederate Army, the MMM pretends to be caring, suburbanite mothers. KKK? MMM? I am beginning to see a
pattern here.
Tell me, Sir, what is the difference between a Poll Tax and outrageous firearms excise taxes? What is the difference between a voter's
literacy test and photo licensing and tracking of gun owners? What is the difference between the right to defend one's family and the right not to be lynched by a mob while a cross burns in the yard?
Sir, as you can see here, I pull no punches. I am the one who will tell you like it is. The simple fact is this. Criminals DO NOT CARE ABOUT GUN LAWS. They only effect to tell the criminal where the easy pickings are. Gun restriction only serves to make the streets safer for criminals. Do not make me and the other citizens of this great republic victims in our own homes. Take action to enfore the existing laws.
Please, if AB 273 makes it to you desk, kill it. Kill it now. Before it kills us.
Respectfully,
Doug Hoffman
