GREENVILLE, SOUTH CAROLINA 3:30 p.m. EDT April
5, 2001 -- A woman who said that she was trying to defend her adult daughter
shot a man to death Wednesday night.
Greenville County deputies told News 4 that
34-year-old Kenneth Richard Motes was fighting with his girlfriend at a home on
White Horse Road, when the woman's mother shot Motes with a 16-gauge shotgun to
end the argument.
Greenville County Coroner Kent Dill said that
Motes died at Greenville Memorial Hospital early Thursday morning from his
injuries.
Sheriff's Deputies and the Solicitor's office
are considering charges against the woman, but none had been filed Thursday.
KABA NOTE: Not enough information to know
exactly what happened, but the fact that no charges were filed suggests that
there may have been a clear cut case of self-defense and possibly a weapon
involved. In the video on the website linked above, the reporter says
"deputies say she was defending her daughter."
