Two clerks at an adult video store in Phoenix struck back at two robbers early this morning, resulting in a shootout that wounded both suspects and one of the clerks.

Two men entered the International Adult Boutique at 3140 W. Indian School Road at about 12:45 a.m. and pretended to shop, Phoenix police Detective Tony Morales said. A few minutes later, they pulled out guns and demanded money from the clerks, Robert Pedroza, 21, and Jesus Pallares, 22.

While the men were tying up the clerks, Pallares broke loose, grabbed a gun, and started shooting at the men, Morales said. The robbers shot back, and in the ensuing melee, Pedroza grabbed a weapon and stabbed one of the men.

Pedroza was shot in the leg and was in good condition today at Good Samaritan Medical Center. He underwent surgery for his injury, a store employee said.

One of the suspected robbers, a man in his 20s, was taken to St. Joseph's Hospital and Medical Center with gunshot and stab wounds. He was in fair condition today.

The other robber was also shot and fled in a small sports-utility vehicle. He is described as Black, in his early 20s, about 5 feet 10 and 145 pounds. He was wearing a gray, button-up, work-style shirt, possibly with an Airborne Express logo on the front, Morales said.
