Subject: Ohio Trooper's Coalition: a criminal organization?
Editor:
On 1 October 2001, the Ohio Trooper's Coalition posted a News Release.
This release was published at http://www.jointogether.org/gv/wire/press_releases/reader.jtml?Object_ID=545990
where I read it today.
QUOTE---
Columbus, OH - The Ohio Troopers Coalition, ... officially announced its opposition
to legislation pending in the General Assembly allowing adults to carry concealed
weapons. Especially objectionable, troopers say, are provisions in both bills
that allow for concealed weapons in automobiles.
"Two words sum up our objections best
-- road rage," said Jim Roberts, Executive Director of the Ohio Troopers
Coalition. "Take what everyone knows is happening more and more on our
roadways with angry drivers, and then add handguns to that mix," Roberts
said. "You don't have to be a chemist to see that formula is going to
blow up in our faces."

My comments:
1. Since this argument (or minor variants thereof...usually an assumption that
fender-benders will turn into shootouts...wild west style) has been used EVERY
time concealed carry has been proposed over the last couple of decades, and
since at least 17 states have passed a must issue concealed carry law anyway,
and since NONE of those states have seen this fatuous prediction come true,
I must conclude that your organization
a. is ignorant of the facts, or,
b. thinks that Ohio residents are more insane
or evil than the residents of other states, or,
c. knows the truth, but supports Victim Disarmament
for some other reason.
-If you are ignorant, find and read (assuming
you are literate) a book called More Guns, Less Crime by John Lott. Ignorance
of the FACTS is no excuse, or does that attitude only apply to the sheep...massa?
-If you think that we (residents of the State
of Ohio) are more insane or evil than residents of other states, then GET THE
HELL OUT. You owe it to your families, and WE DONT NEED YOU, OR YOUR PATRONIZING
ATTITUDE, especially in Law Enforcement!!!
-Now, since you have been given the tools to
fix your ignorance, and you have chosen to stay in Ohio, should you continue
with this position I am left to conclude that your motivations are suspect.
Those who support a logically unsupportable position do so from fear or greed
(well you MIGHT enjoy knowing your policies are causing deaths and injuries
to those you have sworn to serve, but I dont accuse you of that... yet).
Are you too fearful of the possible loss of political power if you dont
support the Statists? Are you afraid of thinking? Peer pressure? Or is greed
(lust for power or money) more descriptive. Do you get a rush being powerful
(armed) amongst the weak (disarmed)? Do you enjoy being above the law? Are you
being paid in cash?
What would induce you to violate your sworn duty
and support unconstitutional (U.S. and Ohio) restrictions on Human Rights?
Why should you, and your members continue to
receive support and respect from the citizenry?
2. I don't believe that the average Patrolman
on the beat is stupid enough to support this tripe. Which means that I believe
you (the organization bosses) are playing politics with your position of supposed
authority. I wonder who is being paid off, and with what.
