MOBILE, ALABAMA -- A Texas man said he shot and killed a man at a
motel in self-defense and stopped an apparent robbery attempt.
Robert McNeil, 43, of Mobile was shot several times about 10:30 p.m.
Thursday at Shoney's Inn just west of Interstate 65. He died at
Springhill Medical Center.
Tracy Torres, 39, of Hitchcock, Texas, told police that McNeil came
into his motel room in a robbery attempt.
All indications are that the shooting was self-defense and no charges
were filed, police Cpl. John Goodwin said in a statement Friday.
