Story ran on Page C2 of the Kansas City Star
Thursday, November 22, 2001
Headline was "Self-defense shooting"

The "Northland" listed below is not a city, it's a general term that refers to the metro Kansas City area that lies north of the Missouri River, in the state of Missouri.

CLAY COUNTY, MISSOURI -- Prosecutors on Wednesday declined to file charges against a Northland man involved in a fatal shooting.

Prosecutors said evidence showed the shooting that killed Paul A. Gouge, 31, was self-defense.

Gouge was shot Nov. 5 outside a house in the 6400 block of North Brighton Avenue.

Police said Gouge was shot by a male resident who said Gouge had trespassed. When asked to leave, Gouge made threats and left, police said.

Police said he later returned with a gun and pointed it at the resident while making additional threats.
