ARLINGTON, TEXAS -- A would-be robber was shot twice in the stomach by the owner of an Arlington grocery store Wednesday night, police said.

At about 9:30 p.m., a man with a T-shirt wrapped around his head walked into the Good Luck Restaurant and Grocery, 1715 S. Cooper St., and demanded money from the employees as he brandished a knife, said Sgt. Tom Savage.

Savage said the employees at first thought the man was joking and did not react. The man then held the knife to an employee's throat and again demanded money and was shot with a handgun by the store owner, Savage said.

The injured suspect staggered out of the store and collapsed behind the building, Savage said.

He was taken to Methodist Medical Center in Dallas with injuries believed to be life-threatening.

The man, who was not identified, may face a charge of aggravated robbery.
