HOUSTON, TEXAS -- The fatal shooting of a suspected robber in east Houston Wednesday night has been referred to the Harris County Grand Jury, police said.
The owner of a store at 1143 Port told Houston police he fired the fatal round about 11:15 p.m. while two men were trying to steal beer from his business.
One of the men used a gun during the attempted robbery, police said, and the owner pulled out his own pistol and fired once at the suspect, striking him in the head.
Houston Police Department officers said the suspected accomplice -- described as a man in his mid-to-late 20's -- fled the scene after taking the injured robber's pistol.
The identity of the dead man is being held pending notification of next of kin, police said.
