PRETORIA, SOUTH AFRICA -- A suspected robber was shot dead and another wounded in the hand when a four-member gang tried to rob a chicken retailer at Hammanskraal train station, Pretoria police have reported.
Inspector Percy Morokane said the men entered the shop about 07:00, pretending to be customers. One produced a firearm
after ordering chicken portions.
Morokane said the shop owner shot the man in the head, killing him instantly. Another robber, who tried to produce a gun, was shot in the right hand.
The other two fled empty handed with their wounded accomplice.
The shop owner was not injured. Two unlicensed firearms and a
red Golf, which police suspect belonged to one of the
robbers, was found abandoned a few metres away from the shop, said Morokane.
