A fatal shooting Monday night in northeast Houston will be referred to the Harris County Grand Jury, police said.

Michael Eugene Singletary, 39, was shot to death shortly before 9 p.m. in the 500 block of E. 38th Street.

A shootout began about 8:45 p.m. when Singletary reportedly saw his ex-girlfriend with another man. He then started yelling at her family, who live across the street, Houston police said.

Witnesses told detectives the situation quickly escalated until Singletary drew a pistol. One of the woman's relatives, 31-year-old Carlos Keynel Bush, then pulled out a shotgun

The two men exchanged gunfire until Singletary was struck in the head and died at the scene, police said.
