What If.?

December 29, 2003

During this holiday season of color-coded terror alerts, we're pretty much conditioned that there's not much you and I can do about such things. We're told to go about our business and trust that government is doing its best to protect us.

What if they can't?

What if a major terror strike really happens?

What if a "weapon of mass destruction" is used?

What if, as occurred in the LA riots, civil authority is overwhelmed responding to only the most urgent priorities and whole neighborhoods are ceded to anarchy?

What if your neighborhood is on its own for an indeterminate time, and the only order is that which you and your neighbors can establish and enforce? What if the only force protecting you from violent chaos is that which you and like-minded citizens can provide?

Might "We the People" have an active role in "Homeland Defense" that our government has thus far neglected and discouraged?

"What If.?," KABA featured writer David Codrea's speculation on these potentialities, is featured in the Feb/Mar 2004 issue of Guns & Ammo HANDGUNS, at newsstands now.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
To have no proud monarch driving over me with his gilt coaches; nor his host of excise-men and tax-gatherers insulting and robbing me; but to be my own master, my own prince and sovereign, gloriously preserving my national dignity, and pursuing my true happiness; planting my vineyards, and eating their luscious fruits; and sowing my fields, and reaping the golden grain: and seeing millions of brothers all around me, equally free and happy as myself. This, sir, is what I long for. -- General Francis Marion, American War of Independence, Georgetown, SC [Source: 'Marion, The Life of Gen. Francis Marion' by M. L. Weems, Ch.18]
