"Ray Adams, 44, was pronounced dead in the parking lot of a liquor store on Friday following a gun battle with his sons William Hensley, 24, and Allen Hensley, 18, according to Perry County chief deputy sheriff Randal Poff."

"According to witnesses, Adams attacked the sons earlier in the day, smashing a van the two were riding in with a baseball bat. The sons then raced to a family member's house across a creek from a liquor store. When Adams began shooting at the house with a shotgun, the two sons returned fire, Poff said."

For more than 50 years, I have not discussed the Second Amendment of our Constitution because of the many people who hold a position diametrically opposed to my interpretation of this short and succinct amendment.

Finally, the opinion piece by Ron Miller ["Hold your fire: Second Amendment was aimed at building militias," March 1] made my position as clear as crystal.

I am sure that members of the NRA and like-minded people will disagree totally with Mr. Miller, but I am certainly pleased that he took the time to voice his opinion.

Submitter's Note: Ahh- So it's the guns that are the problem! Actually, law-abiding New Yorkers must go through a 6-month (at best) permitting process costing hundreds of dollars to even own a handgun, yet that didn't stop this senseless killing- because criminals still don't obey gun laws!

"The Navy rifle team closed out its season on a high note rallying to finish fourth at the 2006 NCAA Championships, held at the Olympic Training Center. The Mids, who were sixth after day one, have now finished in the top four two of the last three years. Navy finished the tournament with a 4625, just ahead of Murray State for fourth place. The Mids shot a 2322 in air rifle on Saturday. Alaska-Fairbanks won the team title."
