"Outside Parliament in London, activists have been lying in a bath of fake blood to highlight the illegal arms trade."

"Mick North, whose daughter Sophie died at Dunblane, joined a campaign meeting at Glasgow Cathedral."

"The Control Arms campaign, including Amnesty International and Oxfam, is calling for stronger arms embargoes."

"A FEW YEARS ago, no self-respecting gang member in Boston would be caught with an old, scuffed-up handgun. Such vanity served the purposes of law enforcement officials, who often found it easier to track fresh guns to their original point of sale. But today's shooters are less choosy, making it harder for police to interrupt the flow of illegal firearms."

"Almost two-thirds of the illegal guns recovered by Boston police in 2004 had been in circulation for at least seven years since their original, legitimate retail sale, according to Anthony Braga, a researcher at Harvard's John F. Kennedy School of Government. ..." ...

"Florida citizens have the constitutional right to keep and bear arms for self-protection, and Florida law specifically guarantees the right to transport and carry firearms in private vehicles for lawful purposes. Those rights are well established in law and in public policy."

"Yet some corporate giants are violating those individual rights, claiming a constitutional right to control business property, when no such blanket right exists. Corporate lobbyists have even claimed businesses have the right to ban any personal property inside private vehicles from 'guns' to 'Bibles' to 'bananas.' That is nonsense."

"FYI: Lately everybody's been up in arms over 'concealed carry.' But what about UNconcealed carry? Both the U.S. and Wisconsin constitutions guarantee the right to keep and bear arms. Does that mean I could be like Marshal Dillon, strap a big gun on my hip and go pretty much anywhere I please, as long as I'm not trying to hide the fact that I'm armed?" ...

"Capt. Brian Willison of the Dane County Sheriff's Office says the answer depends on the activity the person engages in while armed. 'Carrying a gun openly in the woods is legal, provided one has the proper hunting license. Carrying the same gun into a bank, school or other public place is likely to result in a different response (from authorities).'" ...

Police were called to the 6600 block of Park Lane in southeast Houston Monday afternoon where a mail carrier was allegedly forced to strip at gunpoint.

One suspect waited in a vehicle while two others allegedly approached the male postal worker with a rifle and ordered him to remove all of his clothing.

The suspects fled the scene with the man's clothes after a neighbor saw the confrontation and asked what was going on.

The neighbor called 911 and provided the nude man with some of her husband's clothes.

"In the 1940s, I was a member of the Abraham Lincoln High School rifle team in Brooklyn. We met several times a week in the high school's basement firing range for target practice and transported our guns to matches throughout the city. At no time was there the slightest problem."

"Today, the thought of teenagers armed with .22-caliber rifles, blasting away on school property, sends shivers through the national spine. We can no longer even conceive of such a thing and would doubt the sanity of anyone suggesting it."

"Hazleton Area School District's school police officer could have a new look. Security Coordinator Vincent Zola recently asked school board health, safety and nutrition committee members to consider allowing school police officer Paul Mendofik to carry a gun in a level-two duty holster as opposed to the originally proposed ankle holster."

"'The truth of the matter is, police officers, if they need to access a weapon, it should be available to them,' Zola said."

"With the regular session of the Mississippi Legislature winding down, lawmakers are continuing to send bills to the governor for his approval."

"One bill that awaits Gov. Barbour's signature is the Deadly Force Bill. This Bill has been criticized as not being necessary because the criminal justice system does not tend to prosecute those who act in self defense."

"'The bill is generally referred to as the Castle Doctrine. A man is king in his own castle. It refines and expands to some degree, the rights of a homeowner to use deadly force in his own home without fear of prosecution,' said State Rep. Greg Snowden."

"Senate Bill 2672, the Tennessee Castle Doctrine Bill sponsored by Senator Don McLeary (R-Jackson), seeks to expand the right of self-defense. The bill would extend that right to permit a person to use the same deadly force now allowed in a person's residence to the immediate area and buildings around the residence and to other dwellings and vehicles. The bill, also known as the Stand Your Ground Bill, is scheduled for a hearing in Senate Judiciary Committee this week. 'All law-abiding citizens have an innate right to self-defense, whether they are in their home, their barn, or their car,' stated Senator McLeary. A person's home is that person's castle is a long-recognized principle that has been eroded away over the years. This bill will help restore our self-defense zone. ..."
