"Firearms groups are banding together across the country with a so-called 'Gun Appreciation Day' this month as part of a bid to check the increasingly vocal anti-gun movement." ...

"The organizers are encouraging gun-rights supporters to 'send a message' to President Obama two days before his second inauguration by 'lining up around the block' at gun shops, ranges and shows with a copy of the Constitution, U.S. flags and a 'Hands off my Guns' signs." ...

Is America tumbling toward ‘Arms-ageddon?’

"America’s front-page fight over gun rights versus gun prohibition could be tumbling foolishly toward a revolution, if one were to believe respected long time conservative commentator and one-time presidential candidate Pat Buchanan."

"His remarks may be either cautionary or cockamamie; you be the judge. With so much talk right now about gun control and outright bans, and resistance growing by the hour as could be seen by the reported rush on Oregon gun permits, one might think the nation is rushing toward 'Arms-ageddon.'" ...

NRA 'inhibiting' political agenda, not 'medical research'

... "NRA's opposition was not to 'medical research,' but to a focused program using tax dollars that had a specific agenda to subvert gun ownership under the fraudulent imprimatur of scientific authority, and one that was actually telegraphed by those perpetrating the bait-and-switch in their confidence and arrogance."

"'We need to revolutionize the way we look at guns, like what we did with cigarettes,' Dr, Mark Rosenberg, then-Director of the CDC's National Center for Injury Control and Prevention told The Washington Post ( ! ) back in 1994. 'Now it [sic] is dirty, deadly, and banned.'" ...

Americans aren't buying 'assault weapons' just to have something to register

... "Saying that the legislation would 'merely mean registration' somewhat implies that registration does not lead to confiscation--that ease of confiscation is not, indeed, pretty much the point of registration. That notion is probably a tough sell for anyone who has followed the history of gun politics, both in the U.S. and abroad. Feinstein's home state, in fact, received 'extra credit' in the Brady Campaign's ranking of states for anti-gun tyranny, specifically for using the gun registry for the purpose of wholesale confiscations." ...

Gun ‘buybacks’ may be deceptive political theater

"One day after conservative and gun rights groups announced a national “Gun Appreciation Day” on Jan. 19 – two days before Barack Obama’s second inauguration, coinciding with Martin Luther King Day – several organizations in Seattle and King County are announcing a gun buyback program that may be more flash than substance.

The program will grab big headlines, but according to various sources and several experts, such programs may not produce any negligible effect where violent crime is concerned. A 2004 study by the National Research Council reported the following:" ...

"Given the temper of the times it was only a matter of time before the gun rights movement moved from the virtual world to the real world. Leading the charge: the [CCRKBA] and Second Amendment Foundation (SAF). Along with a growing coalition of gun rights orgs dedicated to defeating civilian disarmament, they’ve announced 'Gun Appreciation Day' for Saturday, January 19, two days before President Obama is sworn in for his second term as President of the United States. The press release [after the jump] is a little vague on what you’re supposed to do for GAD. ... Methinks the concept is evolving, even as the battle to defend and extend Americans’ Constitutionally protected right to keep and bear arms intensifies. Watch this space . . ." ...

'Magazine control' will be made irrelevant even sooner than 'gun control' will

"A frequent topic here at St. Louis Gun Rights Examiner is the likelihood that the technology-fueled growth in the ease of improvising effective firearms will soon render 'gun control' irrelevant. More specifically, as 3-D printing technology rapidly becomes both more sophisticated and more readily available to middle class consumers, and groups like Defense Distributed develop designs for 'printable' guns that will be made freely available on the Internet, gun bans will eventually require Internet bans to have any faint hope of posing any real obstacle to those seeking to bust a 'government monopoly on force.'" ...

The Second Amendment is there for a reason and we can’t forget it

"The Second Amendment right to 'bear arms' is not a relic of history, inappropriate for today’s society. Instead, it’s more relevant in a society which feels its government is safe from attack, where complacency allows narrow focus on lesser issues and where independence of the citizen is taken without question." ...

Will “Extreme” Gun Control Proposals Require An Executive Order?

"It’s good to see that some/any Democrats can see the writing on the wall for new gun control legislation. ... Senator Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) called the civilian disarmament proposals—rumored to be under contemplation by Senator Joe Biden’s [Gun] Death Panel—'way extreme.' As suggested on this site, a federal national database to track all assault weapons would run smack into the face of the Firearms Owners’ Protection Act (FOPA) which forbids a national database to track ANY firearm. The chances of repealing FOPA are smaller than the chances RF will date Natalie Dadon. Which leaves . . ."

"an Executive Order directing the ATF to re-classify 'assault weapons' as Title II firearms (e.g., machine guns and suppressors). ..." ...

"Last Sunday, newly elected United States Senator Heidi Heitkamp (D-ND) appeared on the ABC News program 'This Week.' During the program, when George Stephanopoulos asked her if she would be willing to talk about 'gun control,' she bucked her party's rabidly anti-gun stance, accurately describing it as 'way in the extreme.' The Obama administration, remember, has endorsed Senator Feinstein's confiscatory 'assault weapons' ban, and banning all private gun sales--and that's just the beginning."

"'Extreme' sounds like a pretty accurate term to describe that position, at least if 'tyrannical,' and 'criminal' are off the table. The Coalition to Stop Gun Violence, of course, shrilly disagrees. ..." ...
