Jurors returned a not guilty verdict on all charges Friday in the trial of a Baltimore high school student charged with the homicide of a classmate.

...

Baltimore City State's Attorney's Office spokeswoman Rochelle Ritchie released a statement, saying, "This is an absolutely tragic incident that did not have to happen, especially in a school where our children attend with the expectation of learning and not being killed. We send our deepest condolences to the victim's family, who should not have had to bury their son at such a young age."

Ed.: The victim isn't the kid that was buried, it is the kid you put on trial for defending himself.

Dear Madame Secretary Clinton,

Let’s have “an intelligent conversation about guns.”

You speak about “gun violence” at every turn.

You and the President remind us about “a gun epidemic.”

That’s the gun epidemic that, according to statistics from the FBI, cut violent crime across this nation to one third of what it was under your husband‘s tenure.

It was the decline in gun violence after firearms laws were rapidly being liberalized and many states adopted “shall issue” pistol permits.

The only epidemic Madame Clinton, are people buying guns legally in fear of your ultimate goal of confiscating the very first human and civil right of self-defense.

Have you ever wanted to personally address the candidates during a presidential debate? Find yourself yelling questions at the moderators through your TV? Don’t worry – you’re not alone.

But now, you can actually do something about it. On Sunday, October 9th at 9 p.m. eastern, Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump will once again face off as they make their cases to the American public and the moderators have agreed to ask questions submitted and voted on by the general public.

When that amendment was conceived and written, we didn’t have what we have had for a long time: a standing Army and Army Reserves, Navy and Navy Reserves, Marines and Marine Reserves, and Air Force and Air Force Reserves. In addition, every state has its own National Guard, and every locality has its own police force and sheriff’s department. The need for a “well-regulated militia” has disappeared.

When we try to enact reasonable legislation to keep firearms from those who shouldn’t have them or those who are not trained and the Second Amendment is brought into the argument, then let us bring the whole of the amendment to the table.

Next month, Nevadans will be asked to vote on Question 1, which would add a restriction to the sale or transfer of firearms. If passed, the law will require transfers, with few exceptions including those to immediate family, be done through a licensed gun dealer who runs a background check. The dealer may charge a “reasonable fee” for the service. Failure to go through a licensed dealer may result in a $2,000 fine, and otherwise law-abiding citizens could end up going to prison for up to a year.

Neither Major Candidate Will Defend Your Gun Rights

At the presidential debate, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton made all kinds of attacks on each other. But on one notable issue, they were in complete agreement: they both think people on the federal government’s “no fly list” should be categorically denied their right to buy guns under the Second Amendment. Both candidates have repeatedly said so for months. Trump’s stance on this issue should be deeply troubling to those who care about gun rights – and also to people concerned about constitutional rights generally, even if they don’t care much about this one.

Shall Not Be Infringed: The New Assaults on Your Second Amendment is a history of the relatively short gun control debate in America and a revealing description of how those hostile to the Second Amendment use polls, studies, and numbers to confuse the public.

Expert progun advocates David Keene and Thomas Mason tell the story of the battle fought in the courts, Congress, and state legislatures across the country as well as in the media and even the United Nations. Guns have become a symbol over which battle after battle is fought, all the while hiding the endgame of a cultural shift to government dominance.

Rhode explains how difficult her training for Olympic sporting events would be if Prop. 63 passes.

If passed in November, California’s Prop. 63 would require background checks for ammunition purchases. In order to make the purchases, Californians would have to obtain a four-year permit from the DoJ; a similar process is required for the purchase of firearms.

“This year, for the first time, after lengthy conversations with many community and tech organizations, including the Open Debate Coalition, the Commission on Presidential Debates has required that moderators of the town hall debate, the second debate, ask questions with input from the internet—not just questions from voters in the physical room,” said coalition director Lilia Tamm Dixon on Thursday. “So after that announcement, the Open Debate coalition met with ABC and CNN… and they’ve agreed to receive and consider the top 30 questions submitted and voted on by the public at PresidentialOpenQuestions.com.”

A Utah lawmaker is drafting a bill that would allow people to carry concealed weapons without a permit.

Currently, it’s a Class A misdemeanor to carry a concealed, loaded gun without a permit. Republican Representative Lee Perry says his bill would allow law-abiding citizens to carry a concealed gun without a permit—and without being prosecuted for a criminal action.

“We’re saying under the Second Amendment, I shouldn’t be obligated to go get a special permit just to cover the gun up,” Perry says. “Because I can carry it open, but why can’t I carry it covered?”

Everything this young woman reports doing was like textbook self-defense, from what I know. She said she saw his car approach and stop, which means she was being vigilant as she walked home from work and saw her accused attacker approaching.

She made a scene by screaming, which was the right thing to do even if there was no one around to hear her at that moment. Then she proceeded to kick butt — even using a head butt and biting to try to get away and these techniques almost worked. The head butt and biting are great go-to moves — especially if you can land the hit or the bite on someone’s nose or other sensitive spots on the human body.

A federal ruling issued this week struck down a handgun registration scheme, a ban on assault weapons and public carry, and a $1,000 excise tax on handguns in the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands.

...

Gun rights advocates welcomed the ruling. “We told them that this new law was also unconstitutional. The gun banners lose again. This is what they get for flouting the judge’s ruling in the first place,” said Alan Gottlieb, president of the Second Amendment Foundation, which backed the case, to Guns.com Thursday.

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms today called on Multnomah County Circuit Court Judge Kenneth Walker to step down from the bench after launching an anti-gun-rights tirade in court earlier this week in which he stated that firearms “are a scourge of this country and no one should have one as far as I’m concerned.”

“Judge Walker is entitled to his opinion,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb, “but he should not use the bench as a bully pulpit to attack a constitutionally-protected civil right. Just because he had to sentence a criminal to prison for brutally murdering another man in 2014 is no excuse for this kind of rhetoric.”

Democratic California Lieutenant Governor Gavin Newsom challenged Olympic skeet shooter Kim Rhode on Twitter over her opposition to a gun control ballot measure, only for Rhode to stand her ground and fire back.

At issue is Proposition 63, which would require background checks, permits, and place other limits on the ability to purchase ammunition. Competitive shooters in the state have claimed the ballot measure would make their lives a nightmare, with Rhode shooting an ad claiming it would leave her unable to prepare for future Olympics.

The NRA Political Victory Fund announced Monday it gave Babeu an A rating and its endorsement for the November election.

“I’m a proud and enthusiastic supporter of our 2nd Amendment rights,” Babeu said. “While Tom O’Halleran’s wants to erode our protections, I will be a consistent supporter of the freedom to bear arms.”

Their decorum was intended to warm the hearts of many who believe that U.S. politicians, from top to bottom, have become too ruthless and intolerant. These delegates, however, were all on the same side in the movement to hamstring the federal government. So decorum aside, the six amendments they adopted might make most citizens’ and nearly all politicians’ blood run cold. They constitute a radical departure from the arc of U.S. history, and certainly from the path of the past 103 years.

The candidates wanting to serve as your next Senator are debating Missouri's problems on Friday in Branson.

The Missouri Press Association sponsored the forum at Chateau on the Lake.

Democrat and Current Secretary of State Jason Kander, Incumbent Republican Roy Blunt, Libertarian Jonathan Dine, Constitution Party Candidate Fred Ryman and Green Party Candidate Jonathan McFarland were all on the stage, but of course the two major party candidates had a heated exchange here on an issue you've been seeing them duke it out over on the airwaves : gun rights.

Mercy, mercy! After suffering in silence to a continuous string of gun letters, I can’t remain silent. In the last one we learn – again – that our elected gun-control officials have broken the Constitution and should be removed “promptly.”

This opinion is based on what the writer admits is a partial reading of the Second Amendment. The writer says “. . . which in part states, ‘The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.’ ”

Come on now, people, this is unacceptable. Despite the writer admitting that he has omitted the first clause, by always quoting the second clause, even beginning it with a capital T, gun worshippers essentially misquote the Constitution that they purport to revere.

Governor Sheila Simon (R-Carbondale) to fill the seat of retiring State Senator David Luechtefeld (R-Okawville).

A Nevada professor called research regarding the effectiveness of background checks on preventing gun violence “muddy” and “limited” during a town hall forum at the Las Vegas Mob Museum Thursday.

William Sousa, professor and director of the Center for Crime and Justice Policy at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, presented his findings during the public meeting about the state’s background check voter referendum, Question 1, where he said the data can be used “to support both sides of the argument.”

In her Sept. 24 column, Gail Collins assumes a woman alone with an intruder is better off unarmed as opposed to being killed by a family member. This is ridiculous.

How about the millions of homes with guns where family members have not killed one another? Or the tens of thousands of women who have saved themselves from rape or murder by being responsible gun owners?

It seems that some cannot separate law-abiding American citizens from criminals when discussing this subject.

If there is one thing that is true about elections in our country, it is that things can change very rapidly.

Nothing demonstrates this reality more than the campaign for president. In the last 90 days, candidate momentum has changed at least three times. But since Labor Day, there is no doubt that Donald Trump has gained momentum, with polling in almost every battleground state and nationally showing that he has closed the gap with Hillary Clinton.

In key swing states, such as Ohio, Florida, North Carolina, Iowa, Virginia and Nevada, Trump has pulled either statistically even or slightly ahead.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
...but if circumstances should at any time oblige the government to form an army of any magnitude, that army can never be formidable to the liberties of the people, while there is a large body of citizens, little if at all inferior to them in discipline and use of arms, who stand ready to defend their rights... — Alexander Hamilton speaking of standing armies in Federalist No. 29.
