Remington Arms blamed a father for the accidental shooting of his daughter who was killed when a rifle discharged in their pickup truck.

Shellsea Lefebre-Schiel, 12, died Sept. 21, 2014, after she was shot in the head while on a hunting trip with her father, Jose Lefebre, on Drummond Island.

Her mother, Michelle Lefebre, filed a $5 million federal lawsuit against the gun maker, which had posted a voluntary recall on its website that said: "Remington has determined that some Model 700 and Model Seven rifles with XMP triggers could, under certain circumstances, unintentionally discharge."

The rifle discharged while the father was driving the pickup truck. His daughter was struck in the jaw and killed.

Federal authorities seized guns, cash and records connected to police reservists in raids on properties owned by the former Oakley police chief.

Items taken during two raids earlier this month at properties connected to former chief Robert Reznick were detailed in search warrant tabulations filed Oct. 13 in Bay City federal court.

On Oct. 5, about a dozen agents from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives were seen before 1 p.m. taking cardboard boxes, firearms and documents from Reznick's home...

Reznick's leadership of the Oakley Police Department came under scrutiny after it was revealed wealthy individuals and celebrities were able to join his police force as reserve officers.

A new firing range is coming to Houston County. County Chairman Tommy Stalnaker says the pistol and rifle range will hopefully make it a safer community for everyone.

Right now, the Houston County Sheriff's Office has to use the Warner Robins or Perry Police gun ranges to train and certify deputies.

“It’s what our Founding Fathers envisioned. If you go and look at the writings of our Founding Fathers, they believe strongly in the rights of people to arm themselves for self-defense,” said Scalise. “And that’s something that’s still strong today, and you see threats against it.”

A group of lawmakers formally requested that the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives reevaluate bump stocks and similar mechanisms to ensure full compliance with the federal law earlier this week.

Rep. Joe Barton (R-Ennis) joined the bipartisan group of his colleagues in a letter to the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) Acting Director Thomas Brandon.

Left tries to make political hay out of Las Vegas tragedy

Two thoughts came to me immediately — our son lives in Vegas and he is a Jason Aldean fan. I stumbled out of bed lunging for a phone. It seemed the phone rang forever until finally a groggy "Hello." He was safe. Relief poured through me — our family was one of the fortunate again.

At just about the exact same time all that was happening, Hillary Clinton also was up and tweeting. To quote her verbatim: "The crowd fled at the sound of gunshots. Imagine the deaths if the shooter had a silencer, which the NRA wants to make easier to get. Our grief isn't enough. We can and must put politics aside, stand up to the NRA and work together to try to stop this from happening again."

Now is certainly the time to pray for the victims and families of the Las Vegas shooting, but this must be just a start.

Because of the lethargy produced by America’s ongoing stream of gun violence, only such a massacre wakes up our society enough to seriously consider possible remedies. A common argument against any form of “gun control” is the false one that “our Second Amendment rights are under attack.” Actually, the Second Amendment right to bear arms is already limited. For example, this right does not include fully automatic weapons or missiles. Banning another weapon or adding a purchase qualification is simply redefining the already-existing limit, not violating the right itself.

DC: The fun of guns

I recently heard a co-worker say her husband admitted he wanted an AK-47 because he liked the idea of having one of the very best assault rifles, that it would be like owning a Porsche and that firing it would be so great. An intern who worked with my daughter expressed surprise that she had never been to a firing range and said she should go, that firing a gun is so much fun. Another colleague also talked about the joys of going to a firing range and owning an arsenal of weapons. None of these people was talking about gun ownership for self-defense purposes. Instead, it was about “fun.” Why should the public’s safety be at the mercy of this mind-set? Mr. King was right.

And UCLA law professor Eugene Volokh said that banning pepper spray and other items used for self-defense could discourage people who are smaller or weaker from going to protests, especially if they are unsure that police will protect them.

“It seems to me that you shouldn’t deny people the ability to go to a demonstration and be able to defend themselves against attackers who may be bigger and stronger unless you can really assure them of safety,” Volokh said.

The Horry County Council passed the second reading of an ordinance Tuesday night that would prohibit the “reckless discharge” of firearms within heavily-populated areas of the county.

The ordinance must pass three readings before formal adoption.

Crafting an ordinance that limits where residents can fire a weapon while not infringing on residents’ Second Amendment rights has been a task the county council has been grappling with for months.

Second, the popular argument that the NRA tells legislators what to think and how to vote isn't entirely accurate. Lucas and more than a few of his colleagues would fight against more restrictive gun laws whether or not the NRA existed. They, and many of their supporters, come from the point of view that owning and carrying a gun is as natural a right as attending church on Sunday or reading the newspaper each day. Compromise is not in their vocabulary, not because of NRA cash but because of their own core beliefs about their constitutional rights. Understanding that is important when trying to engage in any conversation about reducing gun violence in our country.

Three days after a lone gunman killed 58 people and wounded more than 500 others in a Las Vegas massacre, the Scotts Valley City Council unanimously approved three new security ordinances to govern the city’s only gun store.

The new rules were in response to a study of gun dealers — two have recently gone out of business — composed by Scotts Valley Police Chief Steve Walpole that began about two years ago at the direction of the council. At the time the council placed a moratorium on new firearms dealers until the study was done.

Currently, more than 33,000 Americans die each year from gun-related events, including suicides, homicides and accidents, making it a leading preventable cause of death and, in turn, a major public health issue. This is something that many prominent public health advocates have called on the public and elected officials to accept and address and pointed to the lack of solid research in the area as one of the reasons for legislation that is lagging.

“What we know is that states that have tougher gun laws, that keep criminals from getting guns, that keep those dangerous weapons like AR-15s out of the hands of civilians, have dramatically lower rates of gun violence."

-- Sen. Chris Murphy, D-Conn., during an appearance on CNN's “State of the Union,” Oct. 8, 2017

In the wake of the mass shooting in Las Vegas that left 58 people dead and hundreds wounded, congressional leaders have reopened the debate over gun-control legislation.

First, allow me to dispel the popular misconception that suppressors eliminate the sound of gunfire. They don’t. A low-powered handgun produces a gunshot noise around 160 decibels (dB). Suppressed gunshots generally register around 130 dB, with the quietest suppressors reducing a gunshot to around 120 dB. In simpler terms, the sound of a suppressed firearm is somewhere between a chain saw and a jet launching from an aircraft carrier with its after-burner. Anyone who has ever shot a suppressed firearm, and not just seen them in movies, could tell you that. It is also why gun owners insist on calling them suppressors, and not silencers.

Dana Loesch, familiar face of Second Amendment activism, says she’s been driven from her home, forced to move, because lunatics on the left have threatened — repeatedly — to harm her.

“One guy hunted down my private cell phone number, called when police were here, threatened to shoot me in my front yard,” the National Rifle Association spokesperson tweeted over the weekend, as noted by Fox News.

Another tweet: “Another guy created a string of social media accounts, posted photos of my house, threatened to rape me to death.”

CA: Second Amendment Gun Rights ‘On Life Support’ in the Ninth Circuit

In the wake of a recent ruling by an en banc (full court) panel of the federal 9th Circuit Court of Appeals, some civil rights advocates are declaring that the Second Amendment right to keep and bear arms is “on life support” in the West.

The 9th Circuit has 9 western states and 2 Pacific territories in its jurisdiction.

Last Tuesday, the court released a new decision in the case of Teixeira, et al. v. County of Alameda which held that “the Second Amendment does not independently protect a proprietor’s right to sell firearms.”

Guns and gun control are back in the news because of the recent massacre in Las Vegas. I’m almost positive that this tragic occurrence will not move us any closer to lessening gun violence in any meaningful way. After all, we didn’t really do anything when babies were shot in their classrooms in Sandy Hook.

The KKK marchers never showed up in Durham—the rally had been a rumor—and the day ended without any of the violence wrought in Virginia. It did not end uneventfully for Dixon, however: He was arrested by sheriff’s deputies, and disarmed at the scene.

The issue before local governments in the wake of the “summer of hate” is simply this: Can law enforcement intervene against the guns carried as part of a march or a protest in public spaces before bullets are fired, or only after?

The NRA’s Dangerous Alternative to a Bump Stock Ban

Thomas Massie, the Kentucky Republican who leads the Congressional Second Amendment Caucus, and Dianne Feinstein, the California Democrat who is one of the Senate's most persistent gun controllers, do not agree on much. But the congressman and the senator both see the folly of the National Rifle Association's position on bump stocks....

The NRA opposes a legislative ban on bump stocks but wants the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF) to reconsider the question of whether they are legal. The administrative approach favored by the NRA invites unelected bureaucrats to rewrite a statute for political purposes, undermining the rule of law and the separation of powers.

In this episode, the hosts discuss NRA spokeswoman Dana Loesch moving her family from her home because she has received serious threats of rape and assault from unhinged leftists. Loesch shared her story with the viral hashtag #MeToo, which encourages women to identify themselves as victims of sexual harassment or sexual assault. However, very few leftists have given Loesch any sympathy, which she claims is because liberals are okay with a little sexism as long as it silences conservative women.
