Moms Demand Action held a meeting at a church recently with a local politician, a state rep and a police chief. They were there to advance ways they can work in concert to enact new citizen disarmament laws. The media was there and covered the event in detail, complete with a photo showing two smirking “Moms” in their hunter orange shirts. It’s not important to reveal where this took place because the point is not to single anyone out, but the fact remains: No gun owners or gun group representatives were present. They didn’t know about the meeting.

The Right to be Armed: The Ninth Circuit Giveth Then Taketh Away

The joy and amazement Second Amendment supporters felt in July at two Ninth Circuit Appeals Court [Official website] opinions were dashed in August when, in Pena v. Lindley [PDF, text] the Ninth Circuit upheld California’s Unsafe Handgun Act banning purchase of new handguns that lack technology no current gun has and no manufacturer is contemplating. Although the two July opinions were modest and commonsensical, the Pena opinion blatantly defies the Supreme Court’s ruling in District of Columbia v. Heller [PDF, text] that there is a right to keep and bear those guns in common use for self-defense and other lawful purposes.

I keep coming back to April 17, 2013. That was the day I voted for legislation that would finally require a criminal-background check for all firearm purchases. It was also the day I voted against legislation banning military-style assault weapons. While I was far from the deciding vote, I have nevertheless wrestled with that “no” vote ever since.

‘Second Amendment Guy’ Ben Stein Should Learn Before Presuming to Teach

“Stalin Would Approve,” Ben Stein writes in his regular “Diary” feature at The American Spectator. “The only thing missing so far is the live ammo.” It’s a perceptive point about the cold civil war manifesting itself in the “progressive” Brett Kavanaugh witch trial. Stein, for those unfamiliar with his work, is an actor (as well as a writer, lawyer and former speechwriter for Richard Nixon and Gerald Ford) who enjoys Republican approval as a “conservative” commentator. He’s arguably best known for his role in 1986’s “Ferris Bueller’s Day Off,” playing the Economics Teacher who delivered the now-iconic droning and repetitious lines “Anyone, anyone…?” and “Bueller, Bueller…?”

For those who might take CA Governor Jerry Brown vetoing bills that would grant illegal immigrants rights over citizens as a sign that some good sense is returning to the Golden State, think again. Governor Moonbeam recently signed a handful of gun control bills, firing yet another salvo into the already dying Second Amendment. Sadly, he’s not alone. The right to keep and bear arms is being attacked nationwide. Though progressives and authoritarians would love to do so, no state could likely ban guns altogether and get away with it – yet. But the Second Amendment is dying, none the less.

We all know that U.S. Sen. Jon Tester claims to support the Second Amendment and the right of Montanans to own firearms. However, when it comes to showing any real support for the Second Amendment, the senator has struck out. His first swing and miss was when he voted to confirm Sonia Sotomayor to the U.S. Supreme Court. Sotomayor is a radical left-wing activist who will, if give the opportunity, erase the Second Amendment through judicial action.

"The Gun Guy" Says California's Ban On Under 21 Gun Sales Is Unconstitutional

As California Gov. Jerry Brown signs a bill into law that bans the sales of licensed dealers guns to those under 21, Indianapolis gun rights attorney Guy Relford says that law may not hold up if challenged before the U.S. Supreme Court. "If you, in California, now permanently eradicate the ability of someone 19 to 21 from buying a rifle or a shotgun, now you're eradicating all of their Second Amendment rights completely, which means they have no alternative," says Relford, since he says federal law already bans people under 21 from buying handguns.

Republican businessman Shawn Moody has won the endorsement of gun rights groups in the race to be Maine’s next governor, but the groups are at odds over Democrat Janet Mills’ performance in supporting their views on the Second Amendment. Mills, the state’s attorney general, received an F grade earlier this year from the political action arm of the National Rifle Association. However, she received an A- rating from the Sportsman’s Alliance of Maine, a statewide organization focused on hunting and fishing issues, which also advocates for gun rights.

The second draft of the rough-cut of GOOD GUYS WITH GUNS – How an Armed Citizenry Deters Tyranny and Atrocities is now done. You can screen it now. You can also screen the MAIN and END titles at that URL to make sure your name-spelling and credit are correct. But what is a “rough-cut” you may ask? A rough-cut is just the narration and the interviews. There is black picture over the narration and the clips of the experts jump around, where we had to cut to shorten things.

New gun-control laws are taking effect in Maryland in October, and some state lawmakers already are talking about strengthening them in the next legislative session after high-profile shootings in the state. An Associated Press review of firearms-related legislation shows many other state legislatures mostly fell back into predictable and partisan patterns after mass shootings in Las Vegas and Parkland, Florida.

In a civil debate about whether so-called gun control saves lives, Florida State University criminologist Gary Kleck’s argument convinced 6 percent of audience members to change their minds on the matter, giving him the debate win. Kleck, who has authored studies about defensive gun uses (DGUs), took on Paul Helmke, the former president and CEO of the Brady Center/Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence. The event was part of the Soho Forum, which hosts occasional debates. The winner is determined by comparing pre-argument opinions with post-argument ones.

Imagine if California, to combat what the Legislature considered the serious problem of manmade global warming, required all new vehicles sold by car dealers in the state to run on grass clippings, rather than fossil fuels. Would it be fair to say that California was legitimately addressing serious environmental problems and promoting innovation? Or would the more obvious conclusion be that California simply wanted to ban the sale of new cars?

At the beginning of this year, President Trump released a National Defense Strategy that prioritized fighting terrorism, but added that "great power competition ... is now the primary focus of U.S. national security." Yet while foreign policy observers look at places such as Russia and China and see the potential for tumult, they could also find it miles above the Earth, where uneasy alliances threaten to give way to full-on competition.

There are a ton of .22 LR AR pattern rifles out there of varying quality, what makes the Defiance DMK 22 stand apart from the competition? A pretty dang cool barrel nut design that allows the use of 10/22 barrels in an AR style rifle. Why do you need a .22 LR AR pattern rifle? The answer is pretty simple, rimfire ammo is far cheaper than centerfire ammo allowing you to work on fundamental carbine skills more often.

The Associated Press suggested President Trump’s pro-gun policies contributed to the flow of illegal firearms into Mexico but inadvertently demonstrated that a high profile Obama-era gun control law did not work. The AP points to a 2013 report showing that each year more than 250,000 guns “are purchased in the United States expressly to be sent to Mexico.” Of these, “the vast majority of the sales originat[e] in the border states of California, Texas, New Mexico and Arizona.”

Hundreds of guns have been stolen from a Tennessee UPS facility, and investigators are seeking the public’s help as they look to arrest suspects and recover the weapons, federal officials said Monday.

The Memphis Police Department isn’t prepared to say what types of guns were stolen from the Brooks Road UPS facility Sunday night. Investigators said two men in a U-Haul van were caught on camera taking the weapons.

Submitter's note: So much for background checks. More proof that gun control laws only affect law abiding citizens.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience. — C. S. LEWIS
