“The owner of the Boscawen pizza parlor looked uncomfortably at the 45 mm[sic] handgun strapped to Robert Forsythe’s hip.”

“The gun was legal, Forsythe told him reassuringly. A Republican candidate for a House seat in Merrimack County District 8, Forsythe – who pleaded guilty to carrying a concealed weapon without a permit earlier this year – has campaigned almost entirely on Second Amendment issues.”

“’Sometimes,’ he said, when asked whether people get nervous around the gun or question him about it. ‘They never say anything, really.’ If they do, it’s usually a chance for him to educate them about existing gun laws.”

“Senator Coburn of Oklahoma has been attempting to remove the ban on carrying guns on lands managed by the Army Corps of Engineer for several years.”

“Perhaps the Obama administration should have agreed to the legislative compromise before the ban was challenged in court. Now the Corps is faced with a court decision Peruta in the Ninth Circuit that declares that carry outside of the home is a constitutional right.” …

"Clearly, anyone who cannot be trusted with a gun demonstrably cannot be trusted without a custodian, as everyday tools and substances that can be abused for murderous purposes are within reach of all who enjoy freedom of movement. Simply deeming such people prohibited from lawfully buying a gun will obviously not hamper their ability to obtain one unlawfully, or to use other means to injure and kill. The only safeguard against that happening is to remove such individuals from the general population."

A veteran Oakland County police chief known for being tough on people caught stealing campaign signs could lose his job after he was seen by one of his own officers pulling up a political sign and sticking it into the backseat of his personal SUV.

Waterford Township Chief Daniel McCaw "is on paid administrative leave until further notice," Township Supervisor Gary Wall said last week. The township will decide its next step when the Michigan State Police are done investigating the incident this month, Wall said.

"Even if he were enforcing the township code, does a police chief do that in plain clothes in the dead of night? And if he's going to enforce code, why not take all the signs? This was selective enforcement," McGrath said.

“A comedy writer’s attempt to embarrass Second Amendment supporters is falling as flat as a bad joke.”

“Seemingly unaware that many former military men and women remain as committed to the Constitution they defended in uniform now that they’re back in civilian life, ‘Family Guy’ writer Brian Scully posted a Twitter challenge to gun rights supporters.”

UT: Utah gun law that canceled USU speech is an embarrassment

“The inability of Utah State University to impose reasonable protections for a speaker who had received death threats is more than just an embarrassment to the state. It is alarming.”

“It should not, however, be surprising, especially to anyone who remembers the struggles a decade ago over Utah’s loose concealed permit carrier law. It’s time to revisit that law and allow schools the freedom to protect the public. It’s time Utah law stood up for safety, not the empowerment of bullies.” …

“With just two weeks until Election Day, the three men vying to be Montana’s next congressman squared off at a debate in Kalispell that hit upon a gamut of issues, from the use of natural resources at home to terror and health threats abroad.” …

“Responding a question about gun rights and the Second Amendment, both Lewis and Fellows attacked Zinke ‘for having more in common with … Michael Bloomberg than the people of Montana,’ according to the Libertarian. Lewis said instead of putting restrictions on guns that more needs to be done to address mental health in the United States. ... Zinke shot back, saying that of the three people on stage he was the only one who could tell the difference between a magazine and a clip.” …

“In their God-given wisdom, the United States of America’s Founding Fathers were simple and direct in preparing the Second Amendment to the Constitution.” …

“Yet, in The Sanford Herald sponsored political forum on Oct. 7, three Lee County Board of Commissioner candidates made it clear that they want to tell law-abiding citizens when and where they may carry a gun in order to defend themselves and others.”

“Although District 4 commissioner candidate Larry ‘Doc’ Oldham, District 3 candidate Chuck Baker and District 2 candidate Tim Sloan have said that they support the Second Amendment, they have also repeatedly said that citizens should only carry guns in places which they, as a governing body, would designate. ...”

“The debate between Rep. Daines and Amanda Curtis is scheduled for October 20. I am looking for a specific discussion of gun ownership, hunting in Montana and of course protecting the second amendment. I am also looking for specifics on forest management and application of the Montana Cooperative Elk/Logging Guidelines from the 15 year research project and positions on wilderness. In my view we have enough wilderness and Sen. Tester's failed bill would give us 600,000 acres more and loss of more access for hunting and more unreasonable regulations. His forest harvest plan alternative to more wilderness would devastate the forest with clear cuts and roads with no elk management science.…"

WA: Stealth Gun Control Initiative Too Close To Call In Washington State

“The reality is, the bizarrely-long 18.5 page initiative is so confusingly and vaguely worded - with many terms and phrases left undefined - that former Washington State Supreme Court Justice Richard Sanders warned protesters at a rally against I-594 how impossible it will be to comply with. Gun owners will easily make honest mistakes, making it easy to prosecute them. Many will just give up trying to own a gun.”

“... Alan Gottlieb, who founded the Second Amendment Foundation and chairs the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms, compares it to Rep. Nancy Pelosi’s attitude about Obamacare, ‘pass it so you can find out what’s in it.’”

“In the library quiet characterizing most of Alabama's statewide races this year, the campaign for attorney general is a heated argument running through the law, history and philosophy aisles.”

“Attorney General Luther Strange, a Republican, and Rep. Joe Hubbard, the Democratic nominee, have a lengthy list of points of dispute ...” …

“Strange says he is acting against ‘federal overreach’; however, the attorney general also has joined lawsuits trying to stop New York and Connecticut from enacting gun control regulations.”

“’The federal courts will listen when attorneys general get involved,’ he said. …”

... “If ads disparaging Greenberg's Social Security ideas indicate how much voters care about the guaranteed federal benefit, Greenberg's public announcement 10 days ago that he supports background checks for gun purchases indicates how important gun legislation is for voters, as well.”

“Greenberg surprised Esty and the [NRA] when he announced Oct. 9 during a taped debate in Danbury that he supports universal background checks.”

“Four times this year that authorities are aware of, guns have been discharged inside Glacier National Park -- where it’s been legal to carry a loaded firearm for more than four years, but where it remains illegal to fire one.”

“In one incident, an armed visitor accidentally shot and wounded another member of his camping party. In another, a hiker intentionally shot and apparently wounded a grizzly bear he said charged him.”

“Three of the four incidents resulted in misdemeanor citations from park rangers ... Two of those cited pleaded guilty and were fined. The third misdemeanor -- the one involving the grizzly -- was recently dismissed by federal prosecutors.”

“The fourth case resulted in a warning being issued.”

“The U.S. military has been thinking about trading up from their hodgepodge of 1980s era handguns to something a little more modern and modular. At the moment there is an array of different guns in service, from the Beretta 92FS to the SIG SAUER Mk25 to the venerable Colt 1911 and compact versions for the criminal investigation units. Simplifying their arsenal and ensuring interoperability even across branches of service would make acquisition, maintenance, personalization, and even sharing ammunition in combat far easier than today. The Modular Handgun System competition aims to do just that, and SIG SAUER just started showing off their entry in the competition at AUSA this week . . .”

“Democratic U.S. Rep. Rick Larsen brings a battle-hardened resume and a wealth of campaign cash as he seeks an eighth term in Congress.
“His challenger in Washington's 2nd District, BJ Guillot, hopes to pull off a long-shot victory on Nov. 4, despite a shortage of experience and money. That leaves the libertarian-minded Republican relying on the appeal of an unconventional candidacy and policy differences with Larsen.” …
“Stopping the National Security Agency from spying on U.S. citizens is one of Guillot's top political goals. His support for the Second Amendment, closing the borders to illegal immigrants and reducing federal spending puts him in line with the mainstream GOP.
“In other ways, Guillot is politically nonconformist.”

“The Yale College Republicans co-hosted the two-hour event, which was part of the NRA’s university program. The program seeks to educate college students across the country about the NRA’s functions and teach students to become more effective activists in firearm deregulation. During the training session, NRA representative Susannah Kipke redefined certain firearm terms used in contemporary politics and encouraged students to get involved with the NRA — often considered the leading advocate against tighter gun regulations.”
