Wells Fargo bucked corporate gun control by issuing $40 million in credit to Sturm, Ruger, & Co. Bloomberg reports that the $40 million is on top of $431 million Wells Fargo has issued to gun manufacturers since the December 14, 2012, Sandy Hook attack. This means Wells Fargo is not only bucking the corporate gun control trend in 2018 but has also withstood the firearm divestiture campaign that launched following Sandy Hook.

Remington represents a true “jack of all trades” company. The company reached prominence thanks to their New Model Army series of revolvers during the American Civil War and survived the post-war pistol drought with their successful Rolling Block rifles. In the early 20th century, Remington was as competitive as Colt or Savage in the American handgun market; but over the last several decades the company has focused on their rifles and shotguns. It was not until 2011 that Remington reentered the market when they introduced their R1–a 1911 style of handgun and one that caught my attention from its initial release.

Taurus USA is best known for making self-defense and concealed-carry handguns, including the famed Judge. The new Raging Hunter in .44 Magnum shows the company’s other side—the one dedicated to making handguns for hunting. It’s a hefty six-shot wheelgun with a large, stainless steel frame and an 8?-inch, ported barrel covered by a full-length shroud. A crisp single-action trigger pull of 4½ pounds helps with accuracy, and the comfort factors built into the Raging Hunter make you look forward to practicing with it. Although “raging” is in its name, this is a handgun that will make many hunters happy with its features and performance. Learn more about it in the video embedded above, hosted by Executive Editor Adam.

A bear hunt that has nobody happy starts Monday in northwest New Jersey. Though a hunt is happening for the ninth straight year, after just two were held in the 39 years before that, hunting groups have sued because Gov. Phil Murphy ordered state lands closed to hunters. But the fact the hunt is happening at all given the governor’s opposition is a testament to the unusual structure of New Jersey’s hunting laws, and it has animal advocates angry that Murphy didn’t fulfill a campaign pledge to stop the bear hunt.

During World War II, the beleaguered German Army fielded a revolutionary new infantry weapon designed to make the German soldier the most powerful on the battlefield. The Sturmgewehr-44, or StG-44 was the first mass produced assault rifle. The weapon, urgently needed as Germany found itself increasingly losing the war, was a template for future weapons, including today’s AK-74M and M4 carbine.

While looking for a back-up gun for Action Pistol matches, I learned from SIG Sauer that there are no immediate plans for the return of the SIG X-Five Allround?my current 9mm gun. The only SIG single/double action pistol in inventory that complies with Action Pistol rules and my preference for a 5-inch barrel is the P226 TACOPS. Although SIG staff explained that the TACOPS is a feature-rich, reliable duty gun and not intended for match performance, the flared grip, superior trigger ergonomics and balance are so desirable that I enlisted the help of experts to make it match worthy. And did they ever.
