Two highly-decorated police officers in Yonkers ... were accused of making false statements in order to secure a search warrant.
Detective Christian Koch and Officer Neil Vera pleaded not guilty in the Westchester County courtroom to charges that they phonied up the warrant in a drug investigation. ...
“They’re had thousands of arrests — I mean literally, thousands of arrests; hundreds of awards,” said Yonkers Police Benevolent Association President Keith Olson. “I mean, they’re the best we have to offer ...
The officers are accused of fabricating an informant’s tip that led to a drug raid ... in Yonkers back in March. During that raid, a suspect, Dario Tena, inexplicably went out a third floor window to his death. ...

More than eight years after two young men were shot to death at a keg party in The Acreage, the tragedy must be examined by another jury, a state appellate court wrote in an opinion released Wednesday.

John T. Dorsey, found guilty of the killings in 2009 and again at a 2012 retrial, is entitled to a third trial so he can use Florida's Stand Your Ground law to argue the shootings of Stephen Bunting, 20, and John Lott, 19, were justified, the 4th District Court of Appeal said.

From our perspective, the open carry vs concealed carry debate isn’t much of a “debate” at all.

Open carry announces to the world that you are armed. That makes you a primary target in almost any conceivable situation, especially if you have the situational awareness of a pickle.

Too often in the media one encounters writing that vilifies gun ownership by ad hominen attacks: A few articles are just empty propaganda, without any discernible basis in logic. Some of these try to make some psychological point about the meaning of guns — e.g., manhood equivalents, cult objects, or expressions of paranoia. When that kind of piece headlines a national magazine, as “The NRA’s Murder Mystery” does the cover of the October Mother Jones, one has to ask what it means about the publication’s motives.

A medical device—apparently developed by Cyberdyne Systems—disarmed an off-duty police officer, took possession of the weapon, fired it, and refused to let it go until it’s power was, um, terminated.

Don’t freak out just yet, however: there’s a very scientific explanation for everything:

The National Rifle Association today launched the second round of advertising in a national campaign aimed at exposing Michael Bloomberg’s anti-freedom agenda.

The second ad of the “Meet the Real Michael Bloomberg” campaign is a powerful to-camera ad titled “Kim” and features violent crime survivor Kimberly Weeks speaking directly to Michael Bloomberg. The “Kim” ad is part of a $2 million plus national advertising campaign and will air on television stations across America.

The nation's most powerful gun rights group plans to spend close to $1 million in a weeklong, pre-Election Day ad blitz targeting Minnesota U.S. Rep. Rick Nolan.

The National Rifle Association's massive ad buy — $750,000 over just one week starting Oct. 28, according to public filings — adds to the flood of outside money that has made the race for the 8th Congressional District the most expensive contest in Minnesota by far. NRA spokeswoman Jennifer Baker confirmed the ads would focus on the 8th District but declined to say whether they would criticize Nolan, boost his Republican challenger Stewart Mills or both.

Vice President Joe “buy-a-shotgun” Biden will be in Seattle today and Thursday to speak and help raise funds for Sen. Maria Cantwell, and he will be flying into a politically stormy environment where Seattle Times readers are currently engaged in a feisty debate about a gun control initiative ignited by a column first posted yesterday afternoon.

The column, by veteran Times writer Danny Westneat, talks about a gun sale, the likes of which he intimates could be prevented by Initiative 594, the 18-page gun control scheme backed strongly by Seattle-area wealthy elitists and anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety.

Your gun is not welcome at Target or Chipotle.

And that's not by accident. It all started with one woman's quest to prevent the next Newtown.

"I just couldn't believe what I was seeing on the news: 26 Americans being slaughtered in the sanctity of an elementary school. As a mother of five, this really affected me," said Shannon Watts, who started the Facebook group called Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America.

Two organizations on opposing sides of gun policy are running ads in the Twin Cities market.

Everytown for Gun Safety, the umbrella organization for New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg’s Mayors Against Illegal Guns and Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, is spending nearly $26,000 on an ad supporting Sen. Al Franken.

Initiatives 594 and 591 on the November ballot ask a simple question: Do you like background checks for firearms sales?

If you do, vote for I-594 and against I-591. That’s what we recommend. We can’t think of one good reason not to screen gun-seekers for criminal records and severe mental illnesses.

The Traditionalist Youth Network (TYN), a white nationalist group that works to promote “white identity,” filed another amicus brief two weeks ago. This time, they’ve filed in a Maryland lawsuit in which several gun advocates and a sporting goods store are battling a 2013 state law that bans the possession or sale of assault weapons.

...

On October 6, attorneys for the appellants in the Maryland lawsuit filed a response and motion to TYN’s brief, requesting that it be opposed and that the court deny TYN’s motion. “TYN,” the response argues, “appears to be using its brief to advocate positions that are far beyond the scope of this appeal,” and “TYN’s proposed brief adds nothing relevant for the Court’s consideration.”

Ed.: From the SPLC. Note the pro-gun side opposed the motion, the State of Maryland did not, and the Court accepted the amicus by order.

“Newtown moved us from words to action,” Giffords and husband Mark Kelly write in their book “Enough: Our Fight to Keep America Safe from Gun Violence.”

The book chronicles the couple’s lives from survivors to advocates, detailing the trepidation Kelly had about plunging himself into the politics of gun control. It delves into the history of the National Rifle Association while telling of Giffords’ recovery efforts and the couple’s political action committee, Americans for Responsible Solutions.

“In the government’s efforts to remove weapons from criminals, they’re trying to take them away from every law-abiding citizen,” Lynch said. “It’s ineffective.”

Lynch believes a populationwide ban on assault weapons is restrictive. He doesn’t think citizens should be allowed to carry assault weapons on the streets, but believes responsible people who have demonstrated the ability to own such weapons should be allowed to keep them in their homes. He cited the Second Amendment.

“No one wants what happened in Newtown to happen,” Lynch said. “But the solution to that is not population-wide weapons bans.”

He believes gun laws should target criminals and people who are not responsible enough to bear arms.

State Representative Rob Sampson (R-80) was recently recognized by the National Rifle Association Institute for Legislative Action with its Defender of Freedom Award for his role as a legislative champion fighting against Senate Bill 1160, one of the most egregious anti-gun bills in U.S. history.

Representative Rob Sampson is rated an “A+” by the NRA Political Victory Fund and has shown an extraordinary commitment to defending the Second Amendment.

The video also shows a gun with a lock on it, promoting more gun control. Not a single person on the video advocates “turning out” for “Second Amendment Rights,” “unborn babies’ rights,” or “limiting government.” Maybe it’s because people in favor of such causes know better than to encourage anyone who would be inspired by such a video to vote.

After the Montana Secretary of State removed Republican Sebastien M. Guilhemotonia from the ballot in House District 94 this spring, it looked like Democratic incumbent Kimberly Dudik would coast to reelection unopposed. Then came a citizen petition to the Missoula County Elections Office and a new challenger: Gary Marbut, president of the Montana Shooting Sports Association and the very candidate Dudik defeated by a two-to-one margin in 2012.

here are of course a plethora of archaic, contradictory, unconstitutional and draconian firearms statues in New Jersey.

The ways in which the three branches of NJ government conspire to infringe upon our right to keep and bear arms is alarming and many times overwhelming.

Voter turn out in this mid-term election is critical, and North Carolina is a key battleground state for control of the U.S. Senate, which equates to control of the US Supreme Court.

The Supreme Court has recently handed down pro-gun verdicts and confirmed that the Second Amendment protects the individual right to bear arms.

All that could change if Obama gets to appoint one more judge while the Democrats control the Senate.

However, when it comes to protecting the right to “keep and bear arms” – which, unlike the right to vote, is a right expressly guaranteed in the Constitution itself – the Attorney General of the United States is nowhere to be found. Apparently our Second Amendment rights are just not “precious” enough to worry about when governments engage in actions expressly designed to “disenfranchise” individuals from exercising those rights.

The hypocrisy is so blatant it is painful.

In a nation of over 300 million people, rare events happen.

Yesterday, another rare event happened. A person openly carrying a gun was held up at gun point and their gun was stolen. It last happened, that I know of, in Milwaukee in 2010, before the state passed their shall issue concealed carry law in 2011.

In the Oregon event, 21 year old William Coleman had just purchased a pistol the previous day, and was openly carrying it in the Portland metropolitan area, in the early morning hours.

‘New Poll Shows Need to Prevent Gun Grabs Without Due Process’

A new Rasmussen Poll showing that 84 percent of Americans believe someone needs to be convicted of a crime before their property can be seized underscores the need to prohibit gun confiscations without due process, a major tenet of Initiative 591 in Washington state, the Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms said today.

The Evergreen State measure is on the Nov. 4 ballot, and CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb is one of its chief proponents. I-591 was written to prevent the same kind of outrage that followed Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, in which hundreds of firearms were seized from their owners without warrant or probable cause.
