The R1 series has been a hit for Remington, and now the company is offering a version that should be a top choice for anyone looking to carry a 1911. Weighing in at a svelte 28 ounces thanks to an aluminum full-size frame, the gun sports a 3.5-inch stainless bull barrel and bobtail for an easily concealable pistol. Sights are tritium front and rear, and G10 grips pair with a checkered frontstrap for excellent control.

The right to keep and bear arms is once again under attack. While many on the political left would love to revoke that right, it would be difficult for a state to outright ban guns altogether without any legal ramifications. Or would it? In recent months, top Democrats, media personalities, and far-left groups have progressively advanced the idea of imposing gun control that many argue would grossly infringe on the Second Amendment. The U.S. Constitution guarantees all citizens the right to bear arms. It does not mention a single word about only some firearms, bullets, or magazines being legal for citizens.

The venerable art of blacksmithing is not generally considered to be a radical act. But for Michael Martin, a 36-year-old Mennonite from Colorado Springs, the malleability of glowing metal from a forge’s inferno makes it the perfect vehicle for addressing gun violence. Mr. Martin, a former youth pastor, was inspired to learn blacksmithing after the Sandy Hook Elementary School massacre in 2012, in which a deranged young man with an AR-15 assault rifle killed 20 children and six educators.

In July, I spent the better part of two weeks crisscrossing Western Europe, visiting nearly a dozen countries. Sounds like fun, doesn’t it? Sipping cappuccino on the Champs Elysees, tossing coins into the Trevi Fountain, taking selfies of me propping up the Leaning Tower of Pisa—that’s the trip of a lifetime! Yeah, well … first of all, that’s not my idea of a vacation. My “trip of a lifetime” would be a month to putter around my farm in West Virginia with a massive power outage so nobody could call me.

If there’s one issue that’s been at the forefront of voter minds this election season, it’s gun control. Multiple school shootings have had the country on edge, with some calling for tighter restrictions on gun ownership, and others still arguing that it’s more important now than ever that the 2nd Amendment be observed.

As Americans head to the polls on Tuesday, some key races feature candidates that have extremely different views when it comes to Americans’ Second Amendment rights. The National Rifle Association’s (NRA) spending is down 68 percent this year when compared with the 2014 midterm cycle, according to The Washington Post, as a number of mass shootings have brought gun control more prominently into the national discourse. Pro-gun control groups, however, spent the most this election cycle than any since 2010.

When I met Oso, a trash collector from rural Georgia in his late 30s, he was wearing dark shades and a black T-shirt with a silhouette of an assault rifle and the words “Piece Now.” A tall and burly white man, he had a sleeve of tattoos on one arm, stubble on his shaved head and a bushy gray beard. He looked, at first glance, like the sort of intimidating figure who’d fit in at a far-right rally.

A fatal stabbing at the Seattle Center last Friday has some lessons for anti-gunners across the country that they don’t want to hear. One reason may be that the suspect, identified as David Lee Morris, was held at bay for several minutes by a legally-armed citizen until police arrived and subdued him. According to the Washington State Department of Licensing, there are now 602,282 active concealed pistol licenses in the state. That’s a new record, and it reflects a growing public interest in self-protection and personal responsibility.

That threat is I-1639 in Washington state. Given the realities of the political landscape in that state, this measure is likely to pass.

The City Council in Spokane, Washington, has passed an ordinance prohibiting police from selling confiscated firearms, citing an Associated Press investigation that found that some guns sold by law enforcement were used in new crimes. “Disposing of long guns and assault rifles is a sensible approach,” Councilwoman Candace Mumm told The Associated Press in an email after the 6-1 vote on Monday night. “Instead of spending time recycling weapons, our police staff can get back to the primary mission of solving crimes and protecting the public.”

A gunman opening fire in a grocery store, a yoga studio, or in a house of worship sounds like a scene from a nightmare — and the latter is eerily reminiscent of one of history’s darkest hours. Unfortunately, this is a reality that has become all too familiar across the U.S. From Pittsburgh, Aurora, Parkland, Orlando, Las Vegas, Newtown and South Carolina, it is clear that firearms violence has become a public health epidemic in America.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks regional staff have received reports of a rare sight in northwest Montana: caribou. Residents have recently documented sightings of woodland caribou near the U.S.-Canada border. The sightings include the potential for a bull and a cow in separate locations. Caribou, members of the deer family, are native to northwest Montana but have almost completely disappeared from the contiguous United States over the last half century, according to a press release from Fish and Wildlife.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The provision in the Constitution granting the right to all persons to bear arms is a limitation upon the power of the Legislature to enact any law to the contrary.
