... "What I observe anecdotally is that in urban environments, especially among my black fellow citizens, is a lack of a lawful gun culture. ..."

"The culture of lawful gun owners has a robust set of mores about how to handle a firearm (including air guns and such), when it is appropriate to use and display a gun, and the consequences of breaking those mores. For instance, while I am not required by law to tell the cops I am carrying during a traffic stop, I always do, keeping my hands firmly on the steering wheel. I’d rather the cop hear it from me in peaceful, dulcet tones that I have a heater than to discover it during a frisk and then have him wonder why I did not tell him." ...

"Whenever an incident like the entirely justified shooting of Michael Brown by former Ferguson, MO police officer Darren Wilson is forced into the public consciousness, predictable–and dangerous—assertions spring up. Such assertions are fueled and informed by ignorance, righteous imaginings of how things ought to be, novels, TV and movies. While they’re entertaining and dramatic, the actions suggested are virtually always practical, tactical disasters . . ." ...

"Here at TTAG, we love shooting steel. Some TTAG writers have the luxury of owning rural property where they can simply leave their targets. Others, myself included, live in suburbia, and can only shoot at gun clubs or out on public lands (BLM, National Forest lands, etc.). So we need steel targets that are portable. Fortunately, Grizzly Targets of Tampa Florida has the answer: a set of stands and targets they call the 'Build Your Own Range' (BYOR) System. Grizzly sent me some T&E samples, and I have since purchased additional pieces . . ." ...

"FNH USA is way late to the AR party. The FN-15 rifle was introduced earlier this year, well past the peak of the AR fever of 2013. You’d think the company responsible for manufacturing the military version of the M16A4 (and a large percentage of U.S. military rifles) would quickly tool-up to crank out civilian versions of the rifle. But that’s not the way FN rolls . . ."

"Due to legal restrictions and contractual requirements, the rifle you see here as the FN 15 is a completely different beast than the military version, made on different machines that just happen to be in the same vicinity of the company’s M16 manufacturing." ...

"Stag is an AR-15 maker that is often overlooked by the mil-spec crowd for reasons I really don’t get. The company has been at this for more than 10 years, and it’s the real deal: an OEM manufacturer that does the metal cutting and finishing on all the major AR parts that go into its own rifles as well as those from other makers."

"Stag is also not bashful about offering value-for-money models of its own, AR-15s that have the features you want at a price you can afford. The latest of those is the 3T-M." ...

'The gun lobby wants schools and college students to join the country's arms race and buy more guns. "Perhaps a new debate about gun control is needed in America. Not about real firearms - but about 'toys' that sometimes cause needless deaths of children."

"Regularly enough that the scenario is familiar to many people, law enforcement officers kill a child because of a mistake. Dispatchers are called by people concerned a boy is brandishing a gun. Officers arrive, order the youth to put the weapon down and, instead, he moves as if to fire at them."

"My wife and children gave me a Winchester, .22 caliber, rimfire rifle for my 44th birthday and I still have, shoot it, hunt with, and cherish that gift. It is so important to me because it came from my wife and children who knew I wanted one and did not have one. ... "It would be easy for Eastwood to produce a feature that is a straight-up homage to ’80s-era patriotism – and it plays like that on the surface – but American Sniper is overall a tense and sad account of the brief life of the most accomplished marksman in American military, Chris Kyle. The film follows Eastwood’s own Flags of Our Fathers and Kathryn Bigelow’s Oscar-winning The Hurt Locker in examining the reasons men enlist and go to war, then followed by the lingering effects when returning home. Bradley Cooper, picking up a Texas twang to go with a beefier physique, plays Chris Kyle ...
