Not a Gunfighter, but a Defender- the changing face of gun culture

Gun culture is wrapped in myth and fantasy. As a child, I saw many more gunshots on TV than were ever fired by gangsters on the street. Those myths weren’t real, but they left a real impression on all of us.

Times change. We have over 50 million man-years of real-world experience with concealed carry in the last decade. That reality overwrote a lot of fantasy about guns owners. Gun-culture changed from being a fantasy gunfighter to a realistic defender.

Unfortunately, the media never got the memo.

St. Louis Mayor Lyda Krewson (D) is reacting to the rising crime in her city by offering to give people groceries in exchange for their firearms.

She will do this via the kind of buyback program that Democrats in other cities have unsuccessfully implemented around the country.

"They are convicted of a felony, yes, I believe they should not have their firearms. They should be taken away. But just to blanketly say that any misdemeanor will make you lose your firearms for life, is not right," said Morse.

Morse says there are different levels of misdemeanors and not all should cost someone their firearms. Lewis County Sheriff Mike Carpinelli agrees.

"An instance where there are words that are shouted, there's a cell phone that is thrown, a door is kicked in, that is no reason to take somebody's Second Amendment right away," said Carpinelli.

This is just the first of several proposals the governor hopes to unveil next month as part of his State of the States address.

This is going to be the biggest event in Idaho Second Amendment Alliance history. You will have your typical media ran Governor's debates, but this debate is different. It's for the people and run by the grassroots!

You deserve a debate about the 2nd Amendment that is not ran by media conglomerates and biased news outlets.

The owners of a Norridge hardware store got the green light from the Norridge Village Board on Wednesday to sell as many as 90 handguns and 90 rifles.

The Ace Hardware store, at 8330 W. Lawrence Ave., met the requirements of the village's weapons dealer ordinance, which meant village officials could not legally block the store owner's plan to expand its sporting goods section by adding handguns and rifles, Village Attorney Mark Chester said after the 5-1 vote.

"There is only so much we can do to regulate the sale of guns and comply with state and federal law," Chester said.

Sheryl Crow's Criticism of Country Artists on Gun Control Is Missing Something

Sheryl Crow says no one in the popular country music world is willing to speak up for gun control. She's not totally right.

The singer seemed to be talking in general terms when she told the Guardian that she's been disappointed with the response from country musicians on gun control, especially after the Route 91 Harvest Festival shooting in Las Vegas.

"You would think after Vegas we would see some leadership from our country community,” she says in an interview published on Tuesday (Dec. 12), "But all I can say about that is if there’s money involved, and fear, these conversations come to a screeching halt."

And yet they were reliable votes in favor of all of President Obama's liberal nominees, whereas they routinely salute Chuck Schumer and vote 'no' on Trump's picks. They pretend to be pro-second amendment politicians, then they vote against judges who'd uphold the right to bear arms, having rubber-stamped jurists who wouldn't. Recall that modern Second Amendment jurisprudence hangs by a 5-4 thread, despite the clear wording of the Constitution. Swing voters in those red states must be made aware of these votes, and it's up to Republicans to prosecute the case.

Recently, Bass stated in a radio interview that beer deli store owners can use guns to protect themselves instead of using bulletproof glass. Yes, guns are the councilwoman’s answer for maintaining safety in our stores and in our communities. We don’t want to carry guns! The answer to reducing gun violence in our communities is not to force business owners to carry guns.

Daniel Sherry Jr., another resident and a Democrat, said that he supports the Second Amendment, responsible gun ownership and responsible gun sales but “the juxtaposition of a Beretta bristling with hollow point bullets, that is my concern.”

“To what extent that was meant as a joke, my sense of humor is not properly calibrated,” said Sherry. “I don’t think it’s very funny.”

Last Christmas, conservative blogger Matt Walsh posted a video making fun of anti-gunners who hate guns and the Second Amendment. The video is making its way around again and I thought it was important to remind people that gun control advocates' point of views haven't changed. If anything, they've become even more extreme over the last year.

Top gun rights priority prospects dim, even in GOP-controlled Washington

Gun rights activists spent record amounts last year to elect Republicans — but aren’t likely to get their biggest wish, nationwide concealed carry legislation, approved before the 2018 elections.

Activists are blaming the Republicans they help put in power — as well as Democrats — for the lack of action on the gun lobby’s number one legislative priority.

“The gun rights community does not appreciate the fact that reciprocity languished for so long, and then following two tragic shootings, it seems the first initial response from some in the GOP was, ‘We need additional gun control,’ aka the NICS fix,” said Erich Pratt, executive director of the gun rights group Gun Owners of America.

I want to take this opportunity to publicly thank Congresswoman Elise Stefanik for all the hard work she has done to get reciprocity for concealed carry permits between the states passed in the U.S. House of Representatives. I believe self-defense is a fundamental right. Americans have a right to defend themselves no matter where they live or travel in this country.

'It's Almost About Anything But the Guns': Sandy Hook and the Original Meaning of the Second Amendment

Five years after the Dec. 14, 2012, horror in Newtown, Conn. — when 20 children and six adults were gunned down at Sandy Hook Elementary School by 20-year-old Adam Lanza — the tragedy is still fresh in the minds of many Americans. During the intervening years, Sandy Hook has become a byword of sorts, especially in conversations after subsequent mass shootings; in the debate over guns in America, Sandy Hook has come to represent for some both the ultimate argument for restrictions and the ultimate proof that such restrictions are exceedingly difficult to introduce.

When America celebrates Bill of Rights Day on Friday, it will be interesting to see whether 17 attorneys general who signed a letter to Congress opposing the national concealed carry reciprocity bill will participate.

The gang of 17 includes the Washington, D.C. attorney general, along with those from the following states: California, Connecticut, Delaware, Hawaii, Illinois, Iowa, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Virginia and Washington. With the exception of Hawaii’s Doug Chin, these people have one thing in common beyond their evident dislike of concealed carry and the right to keep and bear arms: All are Democrats.

Schools Disagree Over How To Prepare For Active Shooters

In 2013, Las Cruces High School in New Mexico created a training video to teach students how to perform a "lockdown" drill.

In the video, the teacher turns off the lights, locks the door, and places a black strip of paper over the door's window. The students close the blinds and huddle on the floor, away from the windows and the door.

Today, the way schools prepare for active shooters on campus runs the gamut. Some, like Las Cruces, practice lockdowns. Others, conversely, plan to evacuate students. There are also efforts to train school resource officers and even arm teachers. But mostly, there's major disagreement on what the best approach is.

The old language stated that discharging firearms in "public places" of Bridgewater is prohibited.

Chief Simmons believes that most citizens assumed this applied to everywhere in town, but the ordinance did not reflect that.

The town wanted to change this because, as stated in the meeting agenda, "bullets do not respect property lines."

At Tuesday night's meeting, the Bridgewater town council expanded the prohibition, so that discharging a firearm in all areas within town limits, not just public places, is prohibited.

"Due to the fact that this is a highly densely populated area, we felt it necessary to update our ordinance language to include residential houses," said Chief Simmons.

And trying to put some parameters on gun regulations in the state — even if that meant allowing people with concealed weapons permits to carry guns in weapon-free zones, including schools — is an issue that the Legislature has been wrestling with for years.

But neither issue got done before state representatives and senators adjourned for the year Wednesday evening.

MA: Concealed carry reciprocity that isn’t reciprocal – federal gun law would impose more lax requirements on Massachusetts

File the “Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act of 2017” under bills with disingenuous names. There’s nothing reciprocal, as in a mutual exchange, about pending legislation in Congress that would force Massachusetts to allow citizens of other states with far more lax gun ownership requirements to carry concealed weapons into Massachusetts, a state with some of the nation’s strictest gun laws.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
"Let us contemplate our forefathers, and posterity, and resolve to maintain the rights bequeathed to us from the former, for the sake of the latter. The necessity of the times, more than ever, calls for our utmost circumspection, deliberation, fortitude, and perseverance. Let us remember that `if we suffer tamely a lawless attack upon our liberty, we encourage it, and involve others in our doom.' It is a very serious consideration...that millions yet unborn may be the miserable sharers of the event." --Samuel Adams, speech in Boston, 1771
