A gun owners’ group is taking aim at a self-defense law passed in the lame duck session last year – saying it could make felons out of half a million Ohioans who own certain weapons.

The law was changed to remove a “stand your ground” provision.

But Chris Dorr with Ohio Gun Owners said a section that he believes will outlaw many shotguns and rifles such as the AR-15 was overlooked.

For most people, the topic of guns brings out an impassioned but academic argument, meaning most people haven't actually had to use one... most people.

"First one, I put six slugs into his chest, he flew out my second story bedroom window, 11 days in the hospital and then I put him in prison for two years. And the second one, I shot him right through the heart," said Charles Sweeny.

CT: More gun-control laws: the last thing state needs

With the regularity of Punxatawny Phil emerging from his burrow on Groundhog Day, the state legislature has begun a new session with yet more gun-control legislation at the top of its “to-do” list.

Never mind that Connecticut is near the top of the list with 89 gun-related laws already on the books. Every time something bad happens, the knee-jerk reaction from certain legislators is to pass one more law so “this will never happen again.”

This is a totally unrealistic approach to anything, as a perfect world filled with rainbows, lollipops. and unicorns cannot be achieved through legislation.

A ban on "assault weapons" is one of the goals of some Democrats in the U.S. House, said Rep. Andre Carson (D). He said in a message on Twitter, he believes Congress is taking steps to help stop gun violence.

"This week Congress took action to tackle gun violence," said Carson, after talking about the one-year anniversary of the Parkland (Florida) shooting. "The House Judiciary passed a bi-partisan background checks act, and the House Democrats will reintroduce the assault weapons ban."

Two controversial gun safety bills passed the New Mexico Legislature this week, irking many House Republicans.

Senate Bill 8 (SB 8), which would require that a federal background check for nearly all gun sales within New Mexico passed that Chamber Thursday by a 22 to 20 vote. Area senators Stuart Ingle of Portales, Gay Kernan of Hobbs and Cliff Pirtle of Roswell — and all other Senate Republicans — opposed the bill, along with four Senate Democrats.

Thursday marked the one year anniversary of the terrible crimes at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, FL.

It was a somber occasion, but some media outlets couldn’t contain their glee this week that last year’s horror might finally advance the anti-gun agenda. A CNN headlined heralded “A new era on guns.” “After Parkland, everything is different,” Salon gushed.

But a new nationwide poll by NPR/PBS NewsHour/Marist tells a different story. The News Hour headline summarized the essential point, “A year after Parkland, support sinks for stricter laws on gun sales … .”

The revolver was one of the first multi-shot handguns. The revolver concept was preceded by the so-called “pepperbox” handgun, which used multiple barrels to arm an individual with multiple ready-to-fire bullets. This was later refined to the revolver concept, which saved weight by using a single barrel served by a revolving, cylindrical magazine holding six or more bullets. Although semiautomatic pistols have overtaken revolvers on the U.S. market, there are several good revolver designs that command attention. Simpler, less prone to jamming and capable of firing more powerful ammunition than the semiautomatic, revolvers still have their place.

Two states have made moves to reinstate the Second Amendment rights of college students on public university campuses.

On Monday, the West Virginia House of Delegates held a hearing to address House Bill 2519, the “Campus Self Defense Act,” reported The Parthenon. The legislation is West Virginia’s version of a campus carry bill, which was written with the intent of “denying institutions of higher education the authority to restrict or regulate the carrying of a concealed deadly weapon by a person who holds a current license to carry a concealed deadly weapon.”

How do you go about choosing the right concealed carry ammo for your self defense handgun? There are eleventy-trillion loads on the market and twice as many opinions as to which is the best. There are endless articles and YouTube channels that do “self-defense ammo testing.” Some of them are legit while others are #FakeNews. It’s not necessarily about people being nefarious or incompetent; it’s more about the number of variables at play with ammo selection.

But it doesn’t stop there. Some of these politicians now want to force those who wish to own firearms to hand over the passwords to their social media accounts to the government so that a history of their searches can be conducted. So, in essence, in order to exercise your Second Amendment rights in Illinois, you have to let some Lois Lerner wannabe look over your posts.

Other bad stuff is on the way – including a special gun tax (never forget that the power to tax a right is the power to destroy a right), an ammunition registry, and a massive gun ban. How far are they going? Put it this way, if your guns are stolen, you get punished for the actions of a criminal

Among the critical rights codified in the Bill of Rights, the right of the people to keep and bear arms is the only truly tenable check against tyranny in our Nation. That, of course, explains the ferocity of the Collectivist attack on the Second Amendment of the Bill of Rights to the U.S. Constitution. For, after all, it isn't tyranny that concerns them. In fact, the unchecked, unchallenged growth of Government is the clearest manifestation of tyranny; it is something they have designed and are working to accomplish–the enslavement of the American people, much as the populations of the EU are becoming enslaved.
