For a long time, Remington was a maker only of rifles and shotguns. Bolt-action, pump and self-loading rifles and pump and self-loading shotguns. When I began gunsmithing, if someone had said, “Someday, Remington will be making handguns,” we’d have laughed coffee all over ourselves. That day arrived a few years ago, and now Remington is making handguns for all the self-defense market segments. That’s how we come to the RP45, a striker-fired, polymer-framed pistol that holds a lot of ammo.

The Argus Leader reported Tuesday that the push to prohibit public colleges and universities from restricting guns on campuses was defeated in the Senate. Yes, you read that correctly. This bill didn't die in committee, as a similar measure did in 2008. This stinker made it to the Senate floor, which says a lot about the current mindset among lawmakers, and among all of us.

The bill narrowly passed out of the Senate Judiciary Committee last week. The South Dakota Gun Owners Association was the sole supporter of the bill, saying that it would allow students to protect themselves on campus.

PA: Uncharted territory: The legal landscape on policies arming teachers will be shaped by districts like Tamaqua

When the Tamaqua Area School District implemented the commonwealth’s first policy to arm teachers, leaders at the district knew they would be pioneers.

But now, after facing two lawsuits from teachers and families opposed to this particular answer to school shootings, experts say the district also will be laying the legal groundwork for such policies across the state. The eyes of other school district leaders, elected officials and solicitors are now focused on Schuylkill County.

“This is an extremely important issue,” said John Freund, an attorney with the Bethlehem law firm KingSpry who serves as solicitor for a handful of Lehigh Valley school districts.

The 2020 presidential election may turn out to be one of the most momentous for the Second Amendment in history. The 2000 and 2004 elections mattered, as President George W. Bush brought in Chief Justice John Roberts and Associate Justice Samuel Alito, who provided two of the five votes in the Heller and McDonald cases. The 2016 election saved those cases – and President Donald Trump has brought in two more pro-Second Amendment justices.

Now comes defending those gains in 2020 (as well as advancing the position even further). As has been discussed earlier, packing the Supreme Court could very well be on the agenda the next time anti-Second Amendment extremists get control of the House, Senate, and White House.

House Bill 2519, referred to as the Campus Self Defense Act passed out of House Finance Committee Thursday afternoon. It will now move to the house floor for a first reading.

The bill allow anyone with a concealed carry permit to carry a pistol or a revolver on college campuses in West Virginia. As the bill reads now, there are still some places concealed carriers would not be able to go with a gun such as a private event held on a college campus, a student health center or some college dorm rooms.

WVU faculty and students were each given an opportunity to share their thoughts on House Bill 2519.

"More guns on campus is not going to lead to more violence," said Jackson Wolfe, who's pro-campus carry.

"Having the accessibility to a weapon makes situations escalate very quickly," said Olivia Young, a student against the bill.

The proposed Campus Self Defense Act would allow licensed people to carry a concealed weapon on college campuses throughout the state.

How concealed handgun permits are administered in Maryland could change substantially this year.

Who can carry a concealed handgun, how the permit can be paid for and who gets to rule on an appeal if a permit application is denied will all be scrutinized again in the 2019 General Assembly session. The state Senate offered a preview of what the debate may look like on Thursday on what should have been the most bipartisan question: how to pay.

Firearm laws can vary greatly from state to state, and ignorance isn’t a valid legal defense, so it’s important for responsible gun owners traveling with a gun to be aware of the regulations governing firearm usage for every state along the way.

Written and researched by J. Scott Kappas, Traveler’s Guide to the Firearm Laws of the Fifty States is a quick-reference guide that covers everything from transporting a firearm in a vehicle and concealed carry reciprocity to where and how a gun can be carried for all 50 states and the District of Columbia, as well as travel to Canada and Mexico.

D.A. John Hummel reviewed the evidence and says after enduring assaults for years, including that day, she acted in self-defense to prevent further abuse. In a statement released Wednesday, Hummel said, "Jeannie Dallas fought for her life last night. She endured repeated assaults from her husband over ten plus years and decided that she would endure no more. After he violently smacked [her] early in the evening, and then physically threatened her later in the evening, she stabbed him with a kitchen knife to defend herself. her decision to stab her husband was righteous and authorized by Oregon's self-defense law.

Oklahoma has a rich history of cultivating good guys with a gun. Many of our gun-owning citizenry have been granted an open or concealed carry license. Often professionally-trained via military or law enforcement, these citizens are often dedicated to safe responsible gun ownership and consider themselves preemptive first responders. Oklahoma supports them in this venture with a strong permitting system: a background check by the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation, safety training, and requirements for live-fire practice. Your Legislature is attempting to eradicate all of this.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.' The right of the whole people, old and young, men, women and boys, and not militia only, to keep and bear arms of every description, and not such merely as are used by the militia, shall not be infringed, curtailed, or broken in upon, in the smallest degree; and all this for the important end to be attained: the rearing up and qualifying a well-regulated militia, so vitally necessary to the security of a free State. Our opinion is that any law, State or Federal, is repugnant to the Constitution, and void, which contravenes this right. [Nunn vs. State, 1 Ga. (1 Kel.) 243, at 251 (1846)]
