The Otero County Commission voted unanimously Monday at a special Otero County Commission meeting to declare Otero County a "Second Amendment Sanctuary County." “I asked the attorney to draft this because I did swear when I was elected to uphold the Constitution of the United States, to uphold the constitution of this state and to protect its laws,” Otero County Commissioner Lori Bies said. “I absolutely will not buy into this (proposed gun legislation in the state legislature) without a fight. You’ve got us sitting here and we’ll do what we can to take care of you guys as always.”

Seven universities from across the country came together to compete for a spot at the national competition. 40 competitors showcased their rifle and pistol shooting skills inside Purdue Armory.

According to Purdue's Rifle and Pistol Team Coach, Doc Adams, the competition requires a lot of concentration. The goal is to shoot the bullseye as centered as possible.

Adams said he's got a great team. He said he's proud of his student’s dedication not only to the sport but their studies.

Interesting Data: Seattle Murders Up Since Gun Control Crusade Began

Relying on Seattle Police Department data, Patch.com reported that the Jet City “tallied more homicides (last) year than any year in more than a decade,” an interesting revelation considering that passage of an anti-gun-rights initiative, largely supported by Seattle voters, was supposed to reduce murder and mayhem.

There were, according to the article, 31 homicides in Seattle last year. However, preliminary data from the Brennan Center says 33 people died last year in the city in homicides. In 2017, Seattle saw 26 murders (while KOMO News reported 27), which was also a jump from the 18 slayings in 2016, according to Seattle Police data.

The Bennington Flag: A Pre-Constitutional Symbol of Freedom

Like many flags championed by the Patriot, Constitutionalist and Second Amendment movements, the Bennington Flag is older than the Constitution itself. As the “76” in the canton probably gives away, the flag dates back to the revolutionary period, from the Battle of Bennington in 1777. The battle didn’t actually take place in Bennington, Vermont, but rather about 10 miles away in what is now Upstate New York.

Progressive Pistol Training for Self-Defense

In today’s world, people are flocking to obtain their concealed carry license. Concerns over the changing political climate, the right of self-defense, and gun ownership are – at least in part – responsible for the drive towards concealed carry. As human beings, we all have the inherent right of self-defense. But, as you begin the path towards everyday carry of a handgun (or any firearm for that matter) have you considered what training you may actually need? Gun ownership is a constitutional right under the 2nd Amendment. However, I would challenge you to take a more progressive training approach to the carrying of a handgun on a day-to-day basis.

There’s at least one more day to debate the merits of the Campus Self-Defense Act in the House of Delegates. The Campus Self-Defense Act, known colloquially as the Campus Carry Bill, was moved to third reading on Wednesday, Crossover Day, with 16 amendments pending and the possibility of more on the way. The bill would permit, with some exceptions, students to carry concealed firearms on college campuses in West Virginia.

Guns or a medical marijuana license? Officials with the Oklahoma State Bureau of Investigation say you can't have both. But a controversial bill could change that. Oklahomans still can't use drugs or alcohol while using a gun in our state, but Senate Bill 959 states that the OSBI cannot deny an otherwise qualified applicant from obtaining a handgun license solely on the basis of the applicant being a lawful holder of a medical marijuana license.

The Second Amendment Foundation today filed suit in federal district court seeking to have federal and state laws preventing persons who, at one time in their lives, were subject to a mental health “hold” on the exercise of their Second Amendment rights overturned on the grounds that the way those laws and regulations are enforced are in violation of the Constitution.

The lawsuit is asking the court to declare that a section of federal law governing this issue, along with all derivative regulations and all laws, policies and procedures violate the Second Amendment, and the plaintiffs’ due process rights under the Fifth and/or Fourteenth amendments. It was filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of California.

Last Wednesday we learned that the FBI had detained a Coast Guard lieutenant named Christopher Hasson, filing a motion stating that he “intended to murder innocent civilians on a scale rarely seen in this country.” According to WMAR-TV, federal agents found 15 firearms and 1,000 rounds of ammunition in Hasson’s apartment. Moreover, investigators found deleted e-mails in which Hasson allegedly mused about a “two-pronged attack” consisting of a bioterror assault followed by a sniper attack, and also ones in which he bragged about being a white nationalist.

Regardless of political affiliations, most voters in Madison County are for the Second Amendment. Recently, Madison County voters overwhelmingly decided to make the county a Second Amendment Sanctuary, something Madison County State's Attorney Tom Gibbons, a Democrat himself, said is a mostly symbolic vote. He said more than 50 other Illinois counties have voted for the same principle. While it has no legal binding, Gibbons said the choices of the voters across the state to support the second amendment should send a strong message to Springfield regarding how folks in Illinois feel about their right to own guns.

One of the priorities identified by Nancy Pelosi in her campaign to become Speaker of the House following the Democrat’s historic victory in the 2018 mid-term election was gun control. So, it should come as no surprise that the House will vote on, and likely pass, two major pieces of anti-gun-rights legislation this week. The first bill is the Bipartisan Background Checks Act of 2019 — aka H.R.8 in recognition of the eighth anniversary of the shooting of the former Rep. Gabby Giffords in January 2001. The bill was co-sponsored by five Republicans.

Gun control has been one of the Democrats' main policy priorities since retaking the House of Representatives. Gun rights advocates aren't surprised by the move. In fact, many of us anticipated this would be the road they decided to take. Anti-gunners made the assumption Republican Minority Whip Steve Scalise (R-LA) would be on their side. After all, how could anyone possibly stand for the Second Amendment after being a victim of gun violence? (That's their logic, not mine).

A bill introduced in the Washington House of Representatives last week would repeal the controversial Initiative 1639, which introduced sweeping gun control measures to Washington law books. House Bill 2103, co-sponsored by a contingent of mostly Republican representatives, failed to get a hearing by the Feb. 22 deadline, but will be brought up again at the following session. “I think … it’s going to be a message bill, because we ended up dropping it late in the cycle,” said Jim Walsh, R-Aberdeen.

On Tuesday, New River Community and Technical College joined a number of higher education institutions publicly opposing the "campus carry" bill under consideration by the West Virginia Legislature. House Bill 2519, the "Campus Self Defense Act," would prohibit colleges from blocking people, including students, who have a permit to conceal carry a gun on campus. A few exceptions have been written into the bill, which would prevent concealed firearms from being carried in campus daycares, disciplinary hearings, dorm rooms and organized events with the capacity for more than 1,000 attendees.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
A free people ought not only to be armed and disciplined, but they should have sufficient arms and ammunition to maintain a status of independence from any who might attempt to abuse them, which would include their own government. — George Washington
