On Wednesday, Governor Brad Little signed important self-defense legislation, House Bill 516. This permitless carry expansion legislation was sent to the Governor’s desk prior to the Legislature adjourning last week.
House Bill 516 allows any United States citizen over the age of 18 to lawfully carry a concealed firearm for self-defense within city limits without a permit. This legislation expands Idaho’s permitless carry law to allow nonresidents to exercise the same carry options that Idaho residents currently enjoy. |

On Tuesday, Wolf modified his order to allow gun dealers to sell firearms by individual appointment, so long as they comply with social distancing and similar measures.
It is likely that other lawsuits will proliferate. On Monday, a similar coalition of gun groups, gun shops, and an individual seeking to buy a gun filed a federal lawsuit claiming that New Jersey Gov. Philip Murphy’s order requiring “the brick-and-mortar premises of all nonessential retail businesses [to] close to the public as long as this Order remains in effect” must contain an exemption to permit firearm sales. |

s cities and states across the country race to manage the coronavirus pandemic, stay-at-home orders have closed gun shops and some mayors have attempted to limit firearms sales. Although these moves are designed to protect the public, they may also be bumping up against Second Amendment protections, legal experts said.
"There is a constitutional right at issue, and the question is whether states need to have carveouts for those constitutionally protected activities when they issue blanket orders as a result of an emergency," Jake Charles, the executive director of the Center for Firearms Law at Duke Law School, told Newsweek. |

Order 3-2020 does not close gun stores during the current Covid-19 outbreak. As NRA reports here and here, the Governor’s usual anti-gun ideology is highly problematic in these uncertain times. His continued quest for elected office obviously forced him to do the right thing in this singular case. NRA members and supporters throughout the state are advised to keep a close eye on the Governor and maintain the pressure to keep gun stores open. |

Four gun-owners rights organizations are suing Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva over his repeated attempts this week to shut down firearms dealers.
They contend his actions violate citizens' constitutionally guaranteed right to bear arms.
The federal suit was filed Friday by the Second Amendment Foundation, National Rifle Association of America, California Gun Rights Foundation, and Firearms Policy Coalition. |

In response to the Covid 19 outbreak, Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham ordered the closure of all businesses she doesn’t consider “Essential.” The Governor did not designate firearm stores as “essential,” but many remained open because the Governor’s order did not explicitly order them closed. Your NRA-ILA has now learned that Governor Grisham is making her anti-gun proclivities clear by tasking the State Patrol with driving by gun stores and telling dealers that they are, and will remain, closed to the public. New Mexico residents are encouraged to contact their local firearms dealers to inquire about the potential to make online purchases while the Governor’s order remains in effect. |

During the COVID-19 crisis, many of our family members, friends, and fellow citizens have decided to exercise their right to self-defense for the first time. Unfortunately, many of them are being delayed or denied their rights not only by anti-gun bureaucracy put in place years ago, but also new obstacles created within the past few days and weeks. Anti-gun officials have taken advantage of declared states of emergency to restrict our rights by closing gun stores, delaying concealed carry permits, and shutting down background checks for new firearm purchases. |

In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Governor Roy Cooper’s Executive Order No. 121 to Stay-at-Home, temporarily places restrictions on numerous businesses across the state, to go into effect March 30th at 5PM. Unlike other governors throughout the nation, Gov. Cooper must not consider our right to self-defense “essential” in these uncertain times. Under the order, however, “nonessential” businesses, such as gun stores, can continue to operate if they can meet Social Distancing Requirements. |

An order from Gov. Janet Mills this week to close public-facing nonessential businesses due to coronavirus included gun shops, though advocates are pressing her to reverse that while some remain open or shift to restaurant-like curbside service.
The issue gained prominence on Thursday, when Kittery Trading Post, which sells guns, apparel and recreation equipment, was ruled a nonessential business by the state under the Democratic governor’s order and closed in the afternoon, according to the Portsmouth Herald. |
