Michigan Open Carry is taking the Michigan State Police to court, arguing the agency should be required to disclose details about how revenue from Concealed Pistol License fees paid to the state is spent.

The case comes after Michigan Open Carry, a nonprofit group of gun owners and advocates, sent a Freedom of Information Act request for information about what the state police is spending Concealed Pistol License fee revenue on. The MSP responded by referring to a public document that lists the total amount spent, according to Michigan Open Carry President Tom Lambert.

"We noticed that they were not reporting a 'list of expenditures,' as the law dictates, but rather only a small list of general categories.

By now, you might realize that I haven’t been the biggest proponent of optics on defensive shotguns. But, that doesn’t mean other folks don’t swear by them, or that optics never should be used. Fact is, they are superior to open sights in some scenarios. Let’s discuss red-dot sights’ advantages, disadvantages and why you might benefit from an optic-bearing shotgun.

On Thursday, federal district court judge William Young upheld Massachusetts’ “assault-weapon” ban against a Second Amendment challenge brought by several individual plaintiffs, two firearm dealers, and the Gun Owners’ Action League. Young’s decision in Worman v. Healey represents the first time a court has ruled on the constitutionality of the Massachusetts statute. The Ronald Reagan appointee’s analysis follows the Fourth Circuit Court of Appeals’ approach in Kolbe v. Hogan, in upholding Maryland’s ban of semiautomatic rifles and large-capacity detachable magazines.

The right to speech, to thought, to expression, to religion and faith, to ownership, to protection, and so forth, are not something given to its citizens by a governing entity. Rather, these rights are inherent to our very being. They are among the things which make us uniquely human; they are as much part of our existence as our minds and tongues and eyes and feet. A government does not give us our anatomical features and, similarly, it cannot give us our inherent, inalienable rights which are ours because we are human and we exist.

Law-abiding gun owners know that Moms Demand Action can’t handle the prospect of people exercising their Second Amendment right, but it seems like one of the group’s so-called leaders doesn’t support the First Amendment, either.
It seems Kellye Burke, a chapter leader of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America, was offended when she saw a couple of teenage girls, one of whom had the audacity to wear a “Trump: Make America Great Again” T-shirt.

Gun control is a never-ending argument in American politics, but it should not be an issue within U.S. law enforcement agencies. Yet, here comes another report about loose controls leading to government firearms getting lost or being stolen. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives “generally has strong physical controls.” But a report by an internal watchdog also found record-keeping deficiencies, storage shortcomings and just plain sloppiness with guns.

And where firearms are heavily regulated in the U.K., anyone over 16 years of age can walk into a store and buy a set of steak knives. Correspondingly, it will be impossible for Khan to get knives off the streets. Country star Jason Aldean is calling for more gun control in the form of background checks, claiming that “it’s too easy to get guns.” “It’s too easy to get guns, first and foremost. When you can walk in somewhere and you can get one in 5 minutes, do a background check that takes 5 minutes, like how in-depth is that background check? Those are the issues I have,” Aldean told the Associated Press.

Several hundred heavily armed people marched through Olmos Park Saturday. Marchers were protesting the tazing and arrest of Open Carry Texas leader CJ Grisham last month. Grisham was arrested for obstructing a roadway and interfering with the duties of a public servant. He was first approached by police for violating the city’s ordinance banning anyone but police from carrying a loaded shotgun or rifle in the city. The Olmos Park City Council repealed the ordinance shortly after the arrest. Several nearby cities repealed similar ordinances, which aren’t in line with state law.

The ATF (the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives) announced its “public comment” period for its proposed “bump stock” ban, and within hours the public was expressing its opinion: No way! The language hid the fact that on 10 previous occasions the ATF had ruled that it had no authority to ban bump stocks but has now conveniently changed its mind and its definition.

In a remarkable development in journalism, members of the Denver Post staff are in “open revolt” against the newspaper’s owners, according to the New York Times, with newspaper economics and circulation loss at least part of the equation.

But if newspaper circulation is down – as it appears to be at several publications – could part of the fault be traced to editorial positions that have driven away readers, and in some ways alienated and even vilified them? Newspapers are, after all, businesses and losing customers is bad, but driving them away is much worse.
