The first USPSA Production Nationals was won by a gun that Col. Jeff Cooper described (referring to the action) as an “ingenious solution to a non-existent problem.” Of course, Col. Cooper was referring to the double-action/single-action auto pistol, and I am referring to the Beretta that Ernest Langdon used to claim that first Nationals. Over the next several years the division was dominated by striker-fired pistols, and guys like Dave Sevigny and Bob Vogel would push their Glock models to claim the title. However, each year following would see a few more DA/SA guns in the top 10. |

Buried in a federal judge’s 86-page ruling late last Friday that declared California’s ban on ammunition magazines that hold more than 10 rounds unconstitutional is a devastating dissection of the failure of the state’s gun control efforts, and something of a rebuke to state Attorney General Xavier Becerra for having submitted “news articles and interest group surveys” to support his case, rather than police reports.

Hollywood has a clever way of distorting our perspective on history, and a great example of this is Western film – a movie genre we've all come to love. Cattle rustlers, guns blazing, outlaws running loose, and vigilantes dishing out vengeance indiscriminately. These scenes have become more synonymous with the American Frontier than Winchester and their "Cartridge That Won the West." But these fictional tales have produced more than entertainment for over a century; they've also contributed to an ongoing, subtle push for gun control, all while making Hollywood millions. |

Technically, it's not illegal in Kirkland to, for example, go out into your backyard and do some target shooting. But activities like that — rare as they might be — will likely soon be illegal in the city. The Kirkland City Council is considering a change in city code to ban the discharge of guns except in a few circumstances, like if you're a police officer or if you're defending yourself. |

An increasing number of people across North Carolina are getting their concealed handgun permits (CHPs), also known as a CCH permit. Since 2000, CCH permits, as well as NC's population, have grown. At the end of 2000, there were a little more than 46,000 CCH permits issued across the state. As of March 2019, the number of permits has risen to 604,737, which is the 10th highest in the country. In the same time period, the state population rose from 8 million to 10.2 million.

The Haines City Police Department will not charge a man involved in a fatal shooting following a dispute Sunday.
In a news release, Police Chief Jim Elensky said no charges will be filed against 25-year-old Devonte Duga, who acted in self-defense in the shooting death of Furious Bernard Shell, 26, outside the Family Discount Supermarket. “This is a truly unfortunate event,” Elensky said. “Our thoughts are with all of those involved and their families.”

House Bill 206, designed to restore Second Amendment rights in Idaho to 18-20-year-old adults in Idaho cities, has passed both the House and the Senate. Is on the way to Governor Brad Little for his signature. Idaho belongs to the Constitutional Carry club. A person 21 or over can carry a gun throughout the state, openly or concealed, without a government permission slip. Nor permit was required for citizens to carry weapons, concealed or openly, when the Bill of Rights, including the Second Amendment, was ratified in 1791. But adults in Idaho, who are less than 21 years old, are forbidden from carrying concealed weapons inside of city or incorporated town limits. |

Officials within the Howard County Community Corrections Advisory Board are debating allowing those who make home visits to citizens on probation or in-home detention to carry firearms, and the prospect drew mixed opinions. The discussion of whether to allow probation officers and field officers within the local community corrections and probation departments to carry firearms has been debated before, most recently about three years ago, before being shelved. That debate again resurfaced last week during a meeting of the Howard County Community Corrections Advisory Board.

New Zealand’s government on Monday introduced a bill it plans to rush into law that would ban the types of weapons a gunman used to kill 50 people at two mosques. Police Minister Stuart Nash said that if lawmakers pass the bill as expected, the new law will take effect April 12, less than a month after the March 15 attacks. Plans for law changes were first announced by Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern in the days after the attacks, when the government imposed an immediate ban on the sales of such weapons. |

The National Rifle Association, the nation’s largest gun lobby, has settled on its next target on Capitol Hill: blocking Congress from reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act, a 1994 law that assists victims of domestic and sexual violence. The House is set to vote on the legislation this week; the law expired in February. But the bill includes a new provision — aimed at curbing sexual violence by expanding law enforcement’s ability to strip domestic abusers of their guns — that the N.R.A. does not like. The measure closes the so-called boyfriend loophole by barring those convicted of abusing, assaulting or stalking a dating partner or those subject to a court restraining order from buying or owning firearms. |

On Tuesday morning, lawmakers in Salem will hold the first hearing on a controversial gun control bill. Senate Bill 978 seeks to make sweeping changes to current regulations. The proposals include requiring safe gun storage, allowing retailers to set higher minimum purchasing age restrictions and placing liability on gun owners if their gun is stolen and used in a crime. The bill outlaws untraceable and undetectable firearms, grants local authorities the power to regulate firearm access in public buildings and asks hospitals to provide firearm injury data to the state. |

In the wake of a tragic shooting and carjacking in Lake City that claimed two lives, Seattle Mayor Jenny Durkan called for tightened restrictions on gun laws surrounding those with addiction and mental health problems. “We’ve seen time and time again with someone with mental health problems cycle out of the court system, get access to weapons, and use them to kill people,” Mayor Durkan said Saturday, speaking to the public during an appearance with local leaders in Lake City.
