Industry response was swift after documents filed on April 27 with the Clerk of the House Representatives and Secretary of the Senate surfaced that showed Dick’s Sporting Goods has hired The Glover Park Group to engage in “lobbying related to gun control.” The move came only a few weeks after the big-box retailer made headlines by enacting a chain-wide policy allowing only those 21 and older to purchase firearms, removal of all modern sporting arms and standard-capacity magazines from its 35-store Field & Stream chain and, ultimately, destruction of those guns instead of seeking refunds from distributors or manufacturers.

Could “smart” technology that requires a unique biometric “key” to unlock a weapon help reduce firearm deaths in the U.S.? Advocates think it could and are pushing for wider implementation. But they will face skepticism from gun owners, who worry about reliability. Good morning, and welcome to "Field Notes," a newsletter on the latest ideas and research to solve problems. I'm David D. The British National Crime Agency on Monday warned that London faced a new danger posed by criminals who may try to make guns using 3D printing technology. The law enforcement organization issued the alert in its annual strategic threat assessment, following the discovery of "component parts for a firearm and a digital guide on how to produce a 3D-printed firearm" in London last year.

Nearly three quarters of Michigan teachers are pretty clear about one thing when it comes to school safety: They don't want to be armed.

In survey results released Monday by the Michigan Education Association — the state's largest union for teachers and school support staff — 71% of those who participated said they oppose efforts to arm teachers.

The survey was given last month to 1,005 MEA members. It has a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

"As politicians in Lansing continue to debate school safety, Michigan educators have a clear message: Listen to educators on the front lines. Allowing more guns in schools is not the right answer," Paula Herbart, president of the MEA, said in a media teleconference...

Did anti-gun billionaire Michael Bloomberg open the proverbial can of worms over the weekend when he told a commencement audience in Texas that Americans are facing “an epidemic of dishonesty,” according to CBS News?

According to the Second Amendment Foundation, any discussion about dishonesty ought to include a look at the gun control lobby, which gets plenty of financial support from the former New York mayor. SAF founder and Executive Vice President Alan Gottlieb rattled off several contentious points about the gun prohibition lobby that might be called “accuracy challenged.”

A hunter and taxidermist, Steve Bradbury is a proud gun owner who thought about getting a license to carry a handgun but never considered it a priority. That changed after Bradbury, a San Antonio firefighter, was driving past First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs the day of the Nov. 5 massacre that killed 26 people and stopped to help first responders take care of the victims. After that, he had a different mindset: “I said, ‘All right, that’s it, I’m getting it.”

When billionaire anti-gun former New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg launched a tirade during Rice University's graduation ceremonies over the weekend about an "epidemic of dishonesty" in the nation's capital, he could easily have been talking about the gun prohibition movement he largely finances, the Second Amendment Foundation said today.

Mark Robinson never expected to be in the spotlight. He never expected to be a voice of reason. But he was that voice as a guest speaker at the NRA-ILA Leadership Forum on May 4, part of the NRA Annual Meetings & Exhibits. Robinson, known for speaking up for the Second Amendment during a city council meeting in North Carolina, drew on historical references during his speech at the Leadership Forum because “[h]istory is something that can teach us about our past. That’s a definite. But history can also be a guide to the future. And it can also serve as an inspiration to the present.”

Although "assault weapons" fire no faster than any other semi-automatic, politicians routinely conflate them with machine guns, which have not been legally produced for civilians in the United States since 1986. Prohibitionists like Sen. Diane Feinstein (D–Calif.) argue that "assault weapons" are good for nothing but mass shootings and gang warfare, despite the fact that only a tiny percentage of these guns are ever used to commit crimes. They say these firearms are "weapons of choice" for mass shooters, who are in fact much more likely to use handguns, and claim they are uniquely deadly, even though the category is defined based on features that make little or no difference in the hands of a murderer.
