FL: Uniformed Broward County deputy allegedly stole action figures, 'Fifty Shades Freed' DVD from Walmart

A Broward County Sheriff’s Deputy was arrested Monday after he reportedly stole about $200 worth of merchandise from a Florida Walmart, officials said.
Deputy Henry Guzman, 44, a 13-year veteran of the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, was arrested after he allegedly stole Marvel and “Star Wars” movie action figures. He also allegedly took DVDs including “Fifty Shades Freed” and “Dirt" from a Walmart in Lauderdale Lakes, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reported.
Authorities said Guzman, who was in uniform, took the items in three different visits on May 2, May 9 and May 17. Guzman reportedly put the items in his inner vest each time. |

Are teachers a bunch of gun nuts? Is this the root of a hidden conspiracy where school teachers are really the secret strength of the NRA? I doubt it.
Fortunately we have real data so we don’t need to rely on opinion. Facts show that a surprisingly large percentage of teachers want to carry a firearm at school. The fraction of teachers who want to go armed is several times higher than the average concealed carry rate across the US. That makes sense once we dig into it. |

Democrats and Republicans in the Michigan State Legislature have both introduced bills that would impact gun laws or school security. Those all have to make it through the state House of Representatives and Senate before they can become law, but one proposal is already a done deal and will add millions for school security in this fiscal year.
Michigan’s Senate voted unanimously in April to pass a $18.65 million supplemental budget bill. Fifteen million will go toward school security grants through the Michigan State Police.
Three million will go toward an alert system app that will connect to 911 services, which will allow teachers to press one button to let authorities know about a threat or emergency.

Kathy Richardson of Ricochet Red’s Pistol Range was in a parking lot when a strange man approached her, offering to help her load her pickup, the National Rifle Association-certified instructor told the audience at “Let’s Talk Guns” Tuesday night at the Wichita Falls Metropolitan Community Church.
Richardson turned the stranger down. But he kept up a steady stream of chatter, all the while moving closer to the petite woman. Too close. Richardson pulled her gun out.
“I pointed it right at his chest, and I told him to back off, or I’ll shoot you,” said Richardson, an instructor in Texas License To Carry a Handgun classes. |

Two men in the Buckeye State have filed a federal lawsuit over Ohio’s concealed carry laws, arguing it tramples on constitutional rights.
Plaintiffs Jeff Daly and Chris Jarvis filed their action Monday against Hamilton County Sheriff Jim Neil, the area prosecutor, and the commander of the local Ohio State Highway Patrol post over the state’s licensing process and fees and a law that prohibits the use of a firearm from a motor vehicle. The men argue the latter would open them to criminal charges in a self-defense encounter while in a vehicle and the former places illegal fees and conditions on the right to bear arms. |

Senate Bill 2492A, sponsored by Senator Maryellen Goodwin (D-1), would create broad gun ban powers under the guise of “extreme risk” protection orders. NRA-ILA strongly believes that dangerous individuals should not have firearms. However, this “red flag” legislation is an overreach with few legal protections for those who may be falsely accused. This sweeping legislation would allow almost anyone to have another's guns taken with little or no due process. The bill allows seizure and forfeiture through ex parte hearings where a respondent isn't given notice and a hearing. |

Some gun rights advocates have suggested that’s because lower courts have been thumbing their nose at Scalia’s opinion in an act of massive resistance akin to the South’s refusal to desegregate after Brown v. Board of Education.
But Scalia’s opinion made clear that the decision would leave untouched many “longstanding prohibitions” on the use of guns. In practice, courts have concluded that these prohibitions and others like them pass constitutional muster. Our research confirms, as other research has suggested, that most Second Amendment claims fail. We also find that most fail precisely because of limitations that Heller itself places on the right to bear arms. |

By now—especially after the Parkland, Fla., school shooting—it should be evident to all of us that the Left has plans for a gun-free America. It seems that some businesses are caving in to this pressure by dropping their support for the NRA and its members, though they have been allies with us in the past. We all know that guns don’t kill by themselves any more than spoons create obesity. But people who haven’t decided on this very important issue of protecting the Second Amendment and the God-given right of self-protection are the most vulnerable to be swayed by these liberal tactics. |

Before the Santa Fe shooting, The Washington Post contacted the office of every U.S. representative, multiple times if necessary, to gauge their support or opposition to the proposals, which have yet to be codified into a single bill. We found that while many Democrats were eager to support the proposals, most Republicans did not seem to want to engage on the issue, as evidenced by the high rate of non-response among Republican members.
Just 12 percent of the House Republican delegation — 29 out of 237 members — responded to repeated Post attempts, via multiple emails and phone calls, to seek comment on the issue. Most of those who did respond offered forceful statements of opposition to the proposals. |

A debate over whether the Yellowstone ecosystem's grizzly bear population can thrive while being hunted will be put to the test this fall after Wyoming officials on Wednesday approved the state's first grizzly hunt in 44 years.
The hunt, approved 7-0 by the Wyoming Game and Fish Commission, could allow as many as 22 grizzlies to be killed in a wide area east and south of Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks.
Hunt proponents and opponents made last-minute pleas before the commission, which held several public meetings on the hunt around the state and tweaked the hunt rules in response to some previous comments. |

One day after the 22nd school shooting of 2018 took place in Texas, a previously planned Second Amendment rally at the Historic Haywood County Courthouse drew citizens and elected officials who explained that the problem was really more a societal issue, than a security issue.
“I think it is the breakdown of the family,” said Rep. Michele Presnell, R-Burnsville, at the event. “Most shooters come from a broken home. Many didn’t have a daddy when they were growing up.” |

It is also worth noting that during the framers’ time, it was common for private citizens who could afford them to own canons, and even fully-armed warships. The right to arms does not “permit mass slaughter,” and restricting that right does not prevent mass slaughter. Every day over 100 million lawful gunowners don't kill anyone or terrorize their communities. Restricting their rights will not prevent evil people from doing evil things. |

While technology has not left civilian firearms behind, most of it is cosmetic.
The basic one round fired per trigger pull has not changed since the Second Amendment was adopted, guaranteeing that a “well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.”
It is not about hunting or self-defense; the founding fathers knew that it was the blood of well-trained (regulated) civilians that bought our freedom from the British crown. |

The Second Amendment, meanwhile, says that “a well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.”
The “people” are those who comprise the Militia, not just any or every citizen.
Just because Americans have historically, traditionally and culturally stockpiled guns for personal and private uses does not mean that such a practice is constitutionally valid. |

Senior Quinn Eibert, who reported on the most recent walkout as the editor of the school’s Paw Print newspaper, recalled such an instance after students walked out en masse following the 2016 presidential election.
“Why were those students not punished if political rallies are not allowed? Why is it happening now that there’s a conservative point of view?” he asked. |

On Thursday, May 24th, the Board of Directors for the 32nd District Agricultural Association and the Orange County Fairgrounds has scheduled an “informational” item on their agenda to discuss the Crossroads of the West Gun show. While this does not appear to be a formal “public hearing” (where members of the public may provide comment) we encourage those who support the gun show to attend the meeting and show a strong presence in support of the gun show.
This is not the first time the gun ban lobby has targeted gun shows, nor the only California gun show currently under attack. |

A bill that is seen as a limit to Second Amendment rights for some and lifesaving to others, passed a giant hurdle in the NY State Senate Tuesday, but it still has a long way to go before it can become law.
"The bill has passed, it now goes to codes," Senator John Bonacic (R-Delhi) said.
The Senate Democrats forced the Judiciary committee to vote on the Extreme Risk Protection Order bill. This bill would allow a judge to block people who are likely to hurt themselves or others from purchasing or possessing guns. |

Brushing aside opposition from gun rights supporters, the House of Representatives passed legislation on Wednesday to expand a state law allowing for the seizure of firearms from those who show unstable or dangerous behavior.
The measure allows police, friends and family to ask a court for a so-called "extreme risk protection order" if they believe a legal gun owner poses a risk to themselves or others.
Even with approval in the House – which passed by a vote of 139 to 14 after several hours of debate – the bill must still clear the Senate and be signed by Gov. Charlie Baker to become law. |
