A homeowner in Pelham, Ala., was met with a threat when he answered banging at his front door on the night of Feb. 15, 2022. Earlier that night, a deranged and nude 29-year-old man allegedly stabbed someone down the block. After this, the man then began a spree up the street, banging on door and ringing doorbells, trying to find his next victim. Eventually, the nude bandit made his way to a home where his bangs were heard and answered.

During a press conference in rural Levy County, Gov. Ron DeSantis promised that "before I am done as governor, we will have a signature on" what supporters call a "constitutional carry" bill that would allow residents to carry concealed guns without needing licenses.

During an event in February at Mar-a-Lago, former President Donald Trump’s private club in Palm Beach, DeSantis told an audience he expected the Legislature to address the issue in a special session this year, according to J.C. Martin, chairman of the Polk County Republican Party.

UPDATED – New concealed pistol license data from the Washington State Department of Licensing shows a modest rise in the number of active concealed pistol licenses, but when taking a closer look at the county-by-county counts, one finds striking hikes in four “liberal” counties and declines in some “conservative” counties.

As of April 30, there were 637,354 active CPLs according to the new data. That’s up a total of 980 licenses since March 31, when there were 636,374 active licenses.

In 1946, Boris V. Semin designed the experimental 9x18 Makarov cartridge as an alternative to the popular 9x18 Ultra, developed in 1936 by Gustav Genschow for the German Luftwaffe. In 1947, Nikolay Fyodorovich Makarov designed the Makarov PM pistol around the 9x18mm round, which was introduced in 1948. Makarov’s pistol, also known as the Pistolet Makarova, was a powerful alternative to the 9mm used in the Walther PP/PPK series. The 9mm Makarov, a double-action, straight blowback pistol, was manufactured at Russia’s Izhevsk factory. One of the benefits of Makarov’s design was that the pistol was made with only 28 parts.

“She is armed and she is ready to fight.” Those words are not a description of the many women profiled on NRAWomen.com, or an Armed Citizen entry (although it could be), but rather the words spoken on a major American cable-news channel by a female member of the Ukrainian Parliament in the first days of the Russian invasion.

On April 20, FBI Deputy Director Paul Abbate warned a meeting of law enforcement officers that “violence, homicides and aggravated assaults” are now “occurring at an appalling rate” in America: “We’re seeing a disturbing violent crime surge across the country.” The FBI’s National Incident-Based Reporting System (NIBRS) data for 2020 (the most recent reporting year) shows that the rates of aggravated assaults, homicides, and overall violent crime jumped significantly between 2019 and 2020.

While Second Amendment supporters have their eyes on the 2022 midterms (justifiably), these vital elections will not be the only ones that should have the attention of loyal Ammoland readers. The fact is, to avoid poor performance in future elections, proper prior planning and preparation are needed, starting now.

The apex predators in the Alaskan wilds are the size of Volkswagens. Every year a few people run afoul of these massive creatures and inevitably fare poorly as a result. For such times as these when more rides on a gun’s dependability than simple convenience, we thought it might be an interesting exercise to ponder various types of firearms from the perspective of basic reliability. While factors such as weight, accuracy, ammunition availability and cost all factor into the selection of a defensive firearm, reliability is always a prime consideration.

Thou shalt not hunt on Sunday. So prescribes the law in Maine. But a new lawsuit, filed last Wednesday in Kennebec County Superior Court by Virginia Parker of Readfield, seeks to declare the long upheld “blue law” unconstitutional, which would prevent the state from enforcing it.

The nation's firearm background check system saw some of its heaviest usage on record last month, logging the third busiest April on record. When compared to April 2021's NICS figure of 3,485,016, it stands at a 27.3 percent decrease but, when stacked against the other nearly two dozen Aprils on record, it comes in at third place, well higher than any pre-COVID year.

Republican Gov. Rob DeSantis last week said he intends to sign a permitless carry bill into law while in office, over the howls of Florida's only Democrat elected to public office. DeSantis made the announcement as part of a press conference on Friday, noting that, while lawmakers may not have a successful bill queued up for his signature yet, he thinks they will in the coming months.
