A Howell indoor gun range is adding more shooting range lanes, retail space and classrooms in a $500,000 expansion.

Peacemakers Indoor Gun Range and Sales is expanding by about 2,500 square feet into a warehouse space attached to the back of the building at 158 Catrell Drive.

Co-owner Matt Balla said the expansion will increase the size of the business, which is currently about 10,000 square feet and help keep up with customer demand.

"Livingston County has a lot of gun owners and we draw a large crowd," Balla, who runs the store with his wife Susie Balla and co-owner Dave Halasz, said.

If enough people change their minds, the will of the people can change the Constitution. The will of the people has changed it many times already.

The people can amend the Constitution and eliminate or sharply curtail the right to keep and bear arms, which is an expression of their will.

As a responsible, pragmatic gun owner, this is not what I want and it is the reason I refuse to join and support the NRA as long as it continues with its present course of action.

A measure that would let Oklahomans carry weapons without a permit or training is an effort to protect people’s Second Amendment rights, Rep. Todd Thomsen said Friday.

“I think the reality is that one of the foremost constitutional rights that is important to many Americans is the Second Amendment, and there has been and will be a large group of people that will continue to want to protect that right,” he said. “Especially whenever you see a national narrative that is in opposition to that.

“I think in general, what you see is that there is a real interest in protecting the Second Amendment rights and privileges here in the state. So I think that’s where that stems from.”

Competitive shooter Tony Holmes was asked: What would you say when someone criticizes our Second Amendment and wants to pass more gun control laws in the wake of a tragedy, like a school shooting?

“The Second Amendment was written to protect the people of this country against a tyrannical government and the ability to protect themselves and their home. It doesn’t decide what particular guns should be disallowed.

But there were a few differences. The “March for Our Lives” rally was run by Voice of Westmoreland (a liberal activist group) and the Young Democrats of Westmoreland County. The rally for Palla was organized by Brett Seroka, who lives two counties away and had never met the officer. According to his Facebook page, he just felt deeply motivated to show support for the officer and the Second Amendment.

A more striking distinction between the rallies: Pretty much everyone at the Palla rally was carrying, which is completely legal in Pennsylvania, an open-carry state.

The final distinction: There was no national media coverage of the pro-gun event.

Elected officials from Texas have joined President Donald Trump and Vice President Mike Pence in speaking to National Rifle Association members at the group's annual meeting.

Republican Gov. Greg Abbott told the crowd Friday afternoon that the answer to gun violence is to strengthen gun rights under the Constitution's Second Amendment.

He also talked about Stephen Willeford, who grabbed his rifle and ran across the street to open fire on the gunman who slaughtered more than two dozen people in a church in the small town of Sutherland Springs in November. The gunman shot and killed 25 people at the church. Authorities have put the official toll at 26, because one of the victims was pregnant.

Competitive shooter Shyanne Roberts told Newsy: "The teens that are on TV right now, everybody thinks that they stand for all the teens in the world and everything. And that's not true. I'm a teen. I'm 13 years old. I shoot competitively. And I support the Second Amendment all the way. I don't want stricter gun laws."

A recent poll from Gallup shows that millennials are only 1 percentage point more likely to support stricter gun control. At the NRA annual meeting in Dallas, a few millennials told Newsy there's a lot of reasons why they don't support more gun control. One of those reasons includes growing up around guns, which shaped the way they were raised.

All charges brought by the Olmos Park Police Department against Open Carry Texas founder and president CJ Grisham were dropped Thursday, Grisham said.

The charge of assaulting a peace officer was dropped on April 27 because of insufficient evidence, according to the Bexar County Criminal District Attorney’s Office.

“Our office dismissed the cases for insufficient evidence,” that office said again Friday.

...

A March 27 gun rights rally in Olmos Park led to the arrests of Grisham, Jim Everard and Joanna Castro. Grisham and the other Open Carry Texas members were demonstrating when Olmos Park officers ordered Grisham to get on the ground, rushed him, tased and took him into custody.

In the waning days of the legislative session a late bill by Republican Rep. Cole Wist of Centennial and Democratic Rep. Alec Garnett of Denver titled “Extreme Risk Protection Orders” is flying through the process with little notice but significant concerns voiced by members of the public, politicians and law enforcement who know about it and growing ire from those just finding out. The bill creates a new process for seizing legally-owned firearms from those deemed “dangerous persons.”

In 2014, Fallin vetoed a bill requiring state law enforcement authorities to sign off on applications for federally-regulated items such as silencers, short-barreled rifles and automatic weapons within 15 days. But the Legislature overrode her veto and the bill became law without her signature.

In 2015, the governor vetoed legislation that restricted businesses from banning guns at parks, fairgrounds and recreational areas, a veto that remained in place.

Those attending the meeting of the nation's most powerful gun lobby are listening to political speeches, checking out the latest firearms, attending gun training courses and socializing. The meeting runs through Sunday.

It hurts when we fail to protect children. There were countless opportunities to prevent the Florida shooter from murdering. The blame was placed on a gun and at the feet of law-abiding, patriotic rifle owners who had absolutely nothing to do with any of it! Thousands die by drowning in swimming pools, by impaired drivers, by alcohol, drugs and medical errors. Where is the outrage? Should we ban all these causes of death? Don’t matter. Leftists want the guns.

Yesterday, the Hawaii Legislature adjourned the 2018 Legislative Session. Senate Bill 2046 is still awaiting action by Governor Ige. Please contact Gov. Ige and politely urge him to veto Senate Bill 2046!

Senate Bill 2046, sponsored by Senator Karl Rhoads (D-13), would make it a crime to manufacture, import, sell, gift, lend, or possess certain trigger modifications. It contains vague language that could criminalize firearm modifications that are commonly done by law-abiding gun owners to make their firearms more suitable for self-defense, competition, hunting, or even overcoming disability.

The National Rifle Association presents itself as an organization with a special focus on "empowering" millions of women across the country. In recent years, the group has sought to boost its appeal with a slew of women-specific content, much of it centered around the idea that an armed woman is an empowered woman. But in many ways, the NRA's women's empowerment message falls flat.

Russ Mikesell intends to continue it.

Mikesell, a gun owner who said he doesn't feel the existing billboard represents the feelings of Middletonians, hopes those with the same beliefs can buy the empty billboard directly beneath Mad Dog PAC's and use it to display an opposing message.

"I am for the First Amendment and freedom of speech," he said. That's why he intends to use it to make another argument: "Let's go ahead and offer a different perspective on this -- not even necessarily advocating the NRA or anything like that. It's more about the Second Amendment."

New Jersey would keep young adults from buying rifles and shotguns by raising the age at which they could legally purchase such weapons, according to a bill introduced in the state Legislature by two lawmakers who represent Princeton.

Assemblymen Andrew Zwicker and Roy Freiman (D-Mercer, Hunterdon, Middlesex and Somerset) want to increase the purchase age from 18 to 21. Their bill would allow individuals under 21 to possess such a weapon to hunt, as long as they have a hunting license, to use in a competition, or if they fall within one of the other exceptions carved out in their legislation.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
The right of the people to keep and bear arms has been recognized by the General Government; but the best security of that right after all is, the military spirit, that taste for martial exercises, which has always distinguished the free citizens of these States....Such men form the best barrier to the liberties of America — Gazette of the United States, October 14, 1789.
