State representatives including Rep. John Reilly, R-Oakland Twp., are urging the Senate to take up House-passed legislation to eliminate the requirement for concealed pistol licenses.

In a letter addressed to Senate Majority Leader Arlan Meekhof, R-West Olive, Reilly and 14 other state representatives urged Meekhof to "expeditiously pass" gun legislation.

The bills passed earlier this month by the House would make it so that Michiganders no longer needed a concealed pistol license to carry a concealed pistol.

"The Majority Leader has not made a decision one way or another on whether to hold a hearing on this bill, but he'll give Rep. Reilly's request careful consideration," McCann said.

CBS46 asked the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department what happened when a sheriff’s deputy shot and killed a dog. However, when we got a hold of exclusive cell phone video showing the incident, the stories didn’t seem to line up. In the video, you see DeKalb County sheriff’s deputies try to arrest Robert Brown for felony aggravated assault and weapons charges. He then comes out of the home on Ridgemere Court in Stone Mountain with his hands up. Then his pit bull runs out of the front door towards a sheriff’s deputy and his police K9.

The Pennsylvania Senate is considering a plan to allow teachers and other school employees with permits to carry guns at work. Supporters say it’s about keeping kids safe, while opponents are worried the measure would do just the opposite. Senate Bill 383 is sponsored by State Sen. Donald White (R-Armstrong), who said it would give schools more options for protecting students.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) is investigating four burglaries where at least 45 guns have been stolen from licensed dealers since April 18.

MI: Bad Officers Let Go Due to Misconduct Moving Easily to New Departments, Sheriff Says

One of Michigan's top police officers said enough isn't being done to weed out bad cops. Instead, problem officers move from department to department when something goes wrong.

Many agencies don't share information when they fire an officer, which allows the officer to get hired again somewhere else. It's happened dozens of times in Metro Detroit & can put all of the state's citizens at risk.

When police get in trouble on the job for roughing up a citizen, drug & alcohol abuse or insensitive racial or sexist remarks, they are often given a choice: They can resign or be fired.

Many officers choose to walk away, and they end up right back on the beat at a new police department, where nobody is aware of their past bad behavior.

For the first time in more than 20 years, new rules will regulate and streamline handgun safety training across Tennessee. Starting July 1, the Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security will enforce a new curriculum for the state’s handgun safety course, which is mandatory for students to take in order to earn a permit to carry. The new rules will require instructors to give a presentation that shows several training videos in class. But one gun safety expert is condemning the presentation, arguing a video shows several unsafe practices for clearing and handling guns.

The U.S. Conference of Mayors passed a resolution this week in opposition to two House and Senate GOP proposals that would endorse national concealed carry reciprocity, a top priority for the National Rifle Association (NRA) under a GOP-controlled White House and Congress. The mayors, including New York City’s Bill de Blasio and Chicago’s Rahm Emanuel, passed a resolution at their annual conference that calls on Congress to resist “dangerous” legislation that they argue prevents states and local governments from crafting gun laws appropriate to their needs, while undermining legislation already on the books.

Many years ago, I was hard at work in a new dream job—I was a gunwriter. After using guns in a bunch of different ways for all of my adult life, I had blundered into a gig where I drove to a big seven-story building on the Sunset Strip in Hollywood. Five days a week, I made the trip, arriving early and spending the entire day writing various stories about handguns—and they paid me! It was a great spot for which I will be forever grateful, but the very best thing about that job was the doors that opened because I had it.

Security measures at the Macomb County Clerk and Register of Deeds office at the Talmer building in Mount Clemens have been removed as a result of court action filed by Clerk Karen Spranger that targeted the county’s policy on weapons-free zones.

“The problem with weapon free zones is that if criminals neutralize the initial security barrier or smuggle a weapon into the premises, then there is a known soft target because law abiding citizens will observe the restrictions. We have all read about the horrifying results. Law abiding citizens are then left trapped and helpless to defend themselves, like fish in a barrel,” Spranger said.

In today’s world of concealable handguns, those looking for similar functionality to that of higher-priced double-action pistols without a huge price tag, the Hungarian-made FEG PA-63 is an option to consider. The PA-63 is a compact handgun that is immediately recognizable to most gun enthusiasts. Still, some may mistakenly pick it up, strike a pose, and make a generic James Bond quote thinking that it is a Walther Polizei Pistole Kriminalmodell or simply PPK. This error is understandable.

For Gun Reciprocity Bill Foes, Desperate Times Call for Desperate Lies

When I introduced the Concealed Carry Reciprocity Act (H.R. 38) in January, I knew it would face criticism from the left. I figured I’d run into the occasional lie about nationwide concealed carry reciprocity and have intense opposition rise from liberal groups trying to restrict our Second Amendment right. But I never imagined something like this: on Sunday, New York County District Attorney Cy Vance made the absurd statement, “this bill is supported, I’m sure, by ISIS.” This type of language is especially alarming and irresponsible after Republican members of Congress were recently hunted down and shot by a liberal activist who was incited by violent leftist language.

Adopted in December of 1791 as part of the Bill of Rights, Americans have the right to bear arms. And while some lawmakers differ on gun rights, both sides agree they want to help start a conversation on who should be able to be armed and where. State Senator Darryl Rouson of St. Petersburg believes it’s a case by case basis.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
You are bound to meet misfortune if you are unarmed because, among other reasons, people despise you....There is simply no comparison between a man who is armed and one who is not. It is unreasonable to expect that an armed man should obey one who is unarmed, or that an unarmed man should remain safe and secure when his servants are armed. In the latter case, there will be suspicion on the one hand and contempt on the other, making cooperation impossible. — Niccolo Machiavelli in "The Prince."
