Vince Vaughn Is As Pro Gun As It Gets

World famous comedian and movie star Vince Vaughn came out with a double barrel defense of gun rights during a recent interview, calling for guns in schools and arguing the Second Amendment is intended to defend against “the supreme power of a corrupt and abusive government.”
The star of the new season of the hit HBO series “True Detective,” outlined his pro-gun views during an interview with British GQ, which released excerpts of the sit down June 1. Vaughn — who has outlined his distinctly libertarian views in recent press sit-downs — stands in sharp contrast to many of his Hollywood colleagues who call for bans on firearm ownership.

It could soon be cheaper for gun owners to safely store their firearms under legislation expected to be introduced in the Michigan Senate that would exempt gun locks and safes from state sales and use taxes.

State Sen. Tonya Schuitmaker, R-Lawton, will introduce Senate Bills 364-365 Wednesday that would amend the sales and use taxes to exempt gun safety devices, according to a press release from Schuitmaker's office. The second-term state Senator called the bills "common-sense legislation that will make gun locks and safe more affordable and accessible for all gun owners."

"Locked firearms don't fall into the hands of criminals or put innocent people at the risk of unintentional injury," Schuitmaker said in the release.

A judge said a Grand Rapids police officer acted lawfully when he stopped and briefly detained a man openly carrying a holstered firearm.

Officer William Moe confronted Johann Deffert after a 911 caller reported a man walking around with a holstered gun. Once he determined Deffert wasn't a threat or felon, he let Deffert go.

Deffert filed a federal lawsuit alleging constitutional violations.

"The court determines that under the totality of the circumstances, Officer Moe had reasonable suspicion to stop and only briefly detain Plaintiff," U.S. District Judge Janet Neff wrote in a 27-page decision granting the city's request for summary judgment.

Ed.: Given Northrup v. Toledo Police Dept. in the 6th Circuit, he should appeal.

Walling said Monday, June 1, that he's wearing orange to promote National Gun Violence Awareness Day, which is celebrated Tuesday, June 2.

"As Mayors Against Illegal Guns, we are very strong supporters of the Second Amendment and the right to bear arms," Walling said in a news conference Monday.

Small arms maker Ruger has kicked of a campaign to sell 2 million guns in less than a year to help fund the National Rifle Association's lobbying shop.

The "2 Million Gun Challenge" is a repeat of Sturm, Ruger & Co.'s 2012 pledge to sell 1 million weapons to help the NRA's Institute for Legislative Action, headed by outspoken Second Amendment defender Chris W. Cox.

The National Rifle Association (NRA) used its online magazine to encourage readers to "splurge on a new gun" to mark National Gun Violence Awareness Day, a nationwide event that commemorates victims of gun violence.

Americans are wearing orange on June 2 to honor victims of gun violence as part of a national campaign organized by the Everytown for Gun Safety Action Fund. According to an Everytown press release, "More than 200 organizations, cultural influencers and elected officials" will promote wearing orange as "a way to visibly honor the 88 American lives cut short by gun violence every day, plus the countless survivors forever altered by shootings each year."

The anti-gun far left is freaking over actor Vince Vaughn’s comments appearing yesterday in British GQ, while news accounts seem to be focusing more on his remarks about guns in schools and largely ignoring what he said about the right to bear arms, and one must wonder if it’s because gun prohibitionists don’t care to deal with an inconvenient truth.

As quoted by British GQ, the Daily Mail and this column yesterday, Vaughn put it bluntly: “We don't have the right to bear arms because of burglars; we have the right to bear arms to resist the supreme power of a corrupt and abusive government. It's not about duck hunting; it's about the ability of the individual.”

Following the bill signing, a reporter asked Abbott about bills sent to his desk that will allow for some Texans to openly carry handguns and carry them on college campuses. Abbott said he did not share critics’ concerns that the measures would create safety issues.

“It brings Texas into the 21st century with regard to getting closer to living up to the fulfillment of what the Second Amendment commands, and that is the right to bear arms,” Abbott said. “Texas is now the 45th state that allows open carry, and it is a state that allows campus carry, and I believe Texas is going to be fine just like every other state that allows either students or adults to be able to carry weapons.”

If one New York representative has her way, gun owners could soon be required to purchase liability insurance for exercising their Second Amendment rights. As The Hill’s Lydia Wheeler reported, Democrat U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney (pictured above) last week introduced the Firearm Risk Protection Act, a bill that would implement fines of up to $10,000 for any gun owner – aside from members of the military or law enforcement agency – caught owning a firearm without proper insurance.

“We require insurance to own a car,” Maloney asserted, “but no such requirement exists for guns. The results are clear: car fatalities have declined by 25 percent in the last decade, but gun fatalities continue to rise.”

Grass Roots North Carolinahas learned that discussions in the NC House, regarding House Bill 562, have continued, and some progress has been made between the two parties. Once again, this is thanks in large part to your help.

However. . .

Among other things, it seems that the Republican Caucus remains unsteady on complete elimination of the Jim Crow-era Pistol Purchase Permit (PPP) system. Instead, they may be considering watering down the current system, rather than a full repeal. The exact language being considered is unknown at this time.

A change to the code of conduct in the Batavia School District was voted down Tuesday night.

The change would allow students to protect themselves from uninvited physical harm or injury. The school board voted four to three not to revise the code for now.

One of the members said that self defense is a tough thing to prove, and they didn't want to make the revision without putting a specific definition to it.

I open carry a firearm quite simply for comfort, convenience, deterrence, and activism—to normalize it among the general populace. While many people may agree with the concept of open carry, they often choose not to do it themselves because of the perceived potential conflicts with law enforcement or the general population.

If gun control worked, we wouldn’t be seeing headlines like “Baltimore Breaks City Murder Record,” “29 Shot in Baltimore Over Memorial Day Weekend,” and “Crime Explodes In Baltimore.” After all, it was only two years ago that Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley (the former mayor of Baltimore) signed into law the Firearm Safety Act of 2013—restrictive new gun-control legislation that bans many common semi-automatic rifles, outlaws the manufacture and sale of magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds, requires private transfers of firearms to take place at a Maryland State Police barracks, and institutes a ban on the purchase of more than one gun per month (with a 7-day waiting period).

They do some terrific work advocating for womens rights, specifically the right to armed self defense.

What you may not know is that they have also done some significant research on the racist origins of New Hampshire R.S.A. 159:6, New Hampshire’s concealed carry license law.

In a unanimous decision, the U.S. Supreme Court has ruled that when a person who owns firearms is convicted of a felony – which makes firearm possession illegal for them – they still retain the right to dispose of their firearms as they see fit, as long as they don’t do so in a way where they would have access or control over those firearms.

The Obama administration’s sanctions against Russian companies and individuals over the conflict in Ukraine have had quite the impact on Russia’s economy. Kalashnikov Group, the operator of the “main” Russian AK manufacturing facility, was one of the organizations targeted by the sanctions.

With its access to the highly profitable American firearms market cut off, Kalashnikov Group is focusing its efforts on military contracts. As part of that move, the company has embarked upon a marketing effort to present its arms as “weapons of peace.”

Among the topics: Christie's support for the Second Amendment. New Jersey has some of the strictest gun laws in the nation, but Christie, who ran his first campaigns for local office defending the state's assault weapons ban, blamed a Democratic legislature for the state's current laws, and said he'd vetoed recent attempts to limit gun owners' rights.

"Listen, I know that there's a lot of perceptions about my view on gun rights because I'm from New Jersey and because the laws are the way they are," he told the crowd. "We'll just have to explain that to folks over the course of time."

Some people thought the Heller and McDonald decisions would solve, or at least seriously mitigate the problem of states and localities enacting or enforcing draconian restrictions on guns and gun owners, but so far the impact of those two Supreme Court rulings has been limited, and the Court has refused to hear any subsequent cases that would have helped the situation.

In politics a week can be an eternity, and while these numbers may turn around, the slide Clinton has taken in the polls is cheering gun owners who know her views on gun control. They especially recall her remarks from one year ago that, “I believe that we need a more thoughtful conversation…We cannot let a minority of people—and that’s what it is, it is a minority of people—hold a viewpoint that terrorizes the majority of people.”

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
As I have stood in the crosshairs of those who target Second Amendment freedoms, I've realized that firearms are not the only issue. No, it's much, much bigger than that. I've come to understand that a cultural war is raging across our land, in which, with Orwellian fervor, certain acceptable thoughts and speech are mandated. — Charlton Heston
