SF Sheriff Highlights ‘Only Ones’ Hypocrisy

"A peace officer chastising a security guard for harassing citizens on Independence Day stands in stark contrast to those in law enforcement who instead put their personal interests over their Constitutional obligations, and abuse their positions of power. The latter, a group I’ve labeled 'Only Ones,' are exemplified by San Francisco Sheriff Ross Mirkarimi, an anti-gun enforcer who recently had his own criminal record expunged." ...

"Sunday’s Seattle Times may have just unintentionally blown a mammoth hole in one of the gun prohibition lobby’s most strident arguments for so-called 'universal background checks' — that online gun sales are done without such checks."

"In a new report ... the newspaper said this: 'There were 22 licensed dealers listed in the city when the officials checked. Some are actual stores, including three Big 5 Sporting Goods locations. But more are either pawnshops or individuals mostly serving as middlemen for Internet firearms sales.'"

"'When someone buys a gun online,' the Times reported, 'the purchase is shipped to a dealer who conducts a background check and charges the buyer a fee before handing the gun over.'" ...

"As I sit here, pistol on my hip, home carrying, thinking random thoughts related to guns, trying to draw inspiration to pen an article for my faceless friends, readers of TTAG, wearing out my comma key, taking Dan’s advice by pouring two fingers of Walking Stick (Peligroso Añejo in my case and I don’t smoke…often), the obvious topic came to mind – alcohol and guns don’t mix! It’s not my belief. Don’t get me wrong. I don’t believe anyone should get so soused as to not be able to handle themselves. But there is a consensus among people of the gun that says, when the cap comes off the bottle, the gun should be out of reach . . ." ...

"FBI Director James B. Comey admitted Friday that a 'flaw' in the National Instant Background Check System (NICS) allowed Charleston church shooting suspect [redacted] to take delivery of a handgun following a 72-hour check delay, so watch for someone in the Capitol Hill gun control crowd to push for an extension of that to four or five days."

"Comey told a press briefing earlier today, 'We are all sick this happened. We wish we could turn back time.' But instead of turning back the clock, the smart money might be on betting that either Nancy Pelosi, Chuck Schumer or Dianne Feinstein -- or some other anti-gunner -- will recommend running the clock an additional 48 hours on any background check delay ..." ...

"As a rural Alabama civilian I’ve never experienced any type of major crime. Never has my home been burglarized, never have I experienced an armed robbery, and never have I ever felt like my life, or my family’s lives been in danger. But as times change so does my opinion of society. I began thinking, 'What if my life was in danger, all because someone wanted to take something that was mine?' So about a year ago I made the decision to visit my local county sheriff’s office and apply for an Alabama pistol permit. The process was quick and hassle free and I became a permit holder in under twenty minutes . . ." ...

"One of the issues that liberals and gun control advocates are most loath to discuss is how heavily and effectively totalitarians and mass murderers have relied upon gun registration and other firearms controls to round up 'enemies of the state.' Hitler, Stalin, Castro, and Mussolini all seized upon gun laws to punish, incarcerate, and even exterminate their opponents, while permitting their own evil cliques to expand and strengthen the state and party monopolies on gun ownership." ...

"Although I’m typically not one that’s interested in the lightest, smallest, or most generic offering out there, the Ruger American Ranch Rifle appealed to me. With a 16” threaded barrel and a weight of just under 6lbs, it seemed like a handy little rifle to have – either for a fun day on the range or for deer hunting. This rifle is equipped with a somewhat-standard 13 ¾” length of pull; although there is a compact version that is just over one inch less. In addition, the American series of rifles incorporate a rotary magazine design that, in the case of small case rifle rounds, holds five . . ." ...

"Some years ago, Century Arms‘ first attempt at assembling CETME-style, .308 battle rifles from surplus parts didn’t go extremely well, and the product was hit-or-miss. The market has been a bit hesitant to dive back into a Century Arms-branded CETME/G3/HK91, but the most recent effort here, the C308, is definitely proving to be a solid performer at an incredibly low price. The C308’s manufacturing process is pretty unique, but it also means that they’re strictly limited in numbers. . ." ...

"The 1911 platform has been around since, well, 1911. There have been so many tweaks and revisions over the years that today’s 1911 handgun might be the most well-polished and refined piece of ballistic equipment in existence. One area of the platform where that polish and refinement hasn’t necessarily been focused as much is the magazine. Most manufacturers ship their guns with mags identical to those that our grandparents took into battle against the Nazis. SIG SAUER’s R&D department likes to say 'find a magazine that works and build a gun around it,' so old magazines might not be an issue in their eyes. "It didn’t take long for the reaction to the Charleston, S.C., Bible class shootings to veer from a discussion of America’s gun culture and propensity toward violence to a debate over a symbol of racism and slavery."

"That’s largely a recognition of the fact that the gun debate has been settled. The U.S. Supreme Court has affirmed the Second Amendment right of every American to keep and bear arms, and the National Rifle Association has turned restrictions on gun ownership into a political third-rail issue: Elected officials touch the subject at their own peril." ...

"It’s the same thing every time. A five-time deported illegal alien felon murders a woman in San Francisco – using a federal agent’s gun, no less – and Nancy Pelosi figures that’s as good an excuse as any to push for more gun control laws. In fact, the way she sees it, Congress has a 'moral responsibility' to act. And she isn’t talking about 'doing something' about accommodating sanctuary cities or irresponsible feds who can’t manage to hold onto their pistols. Then the FBI admits that [name redacted] got his gun because of a bureaucratic screw-up by the basement-dwelling NICS trolls and Michael Bloomberg’s Everytown for Gun Safety blames…you got it…the NRA. "Maine’s action is notable because Idaho’s Legislature has a gaggle of members professing adoration of the Second Amendment.
