Andy Beshear getting hanged from a tree outside the State Capitol in May, a fence is going up around the Kentucky Governor's Mansion "for the safety of the current and future first families." Crystal Staley, a spokeswoman for Beshear, said the Kentucky State Police executive security team requested the fence be put up after attendees of a Second Amendment rally on May 24 hanged the effigy on Capitol grounds.

Anti-gun municipal politicians have seized on a new financial weapon in their crusade to discourage gun ownership and to drive firearms retailers either out of town or out of business. It’s the “gun violence tax” — better known among 2A activists as the “Second Amendment tax” or, more appropriately, “Tyranny Tax” — and it has so far dug itself in like a tick in Cook County, Illinois and two cities in Washington State. This fall it might be coming to a city or county near you.

Second Amendment advocates on Monday slammed prominent anti-gun groups for reportedly taking federal Paycheck Protection Program loans. PPP loans are intended to helps businesses keep their workforce employed during the COVID-19 crisis. The Brady Campaign received between $350,000 and $1 million on April 10 while in the same month the Giffords Law Center reportedly accepted a loan worth between $150,000 and $350,000, according to reports by the Washington Free Beacon. Both groups have long stumped for strict gun control measures and have pledged millions to anti-gun candidates for office that have voiced support for such restrictions.

The original Thompson/Center (T/C) Venture arrived in 2009 and was part of a new generation of budget bolt guns designed to offer custom-level accuracy at an affordable price point. T/C’s original Venture was very much a product of its time when cylindrical actions, minimized ejection ports and full-diameter bolts were becoming popular features on hunting rifles. The original Venture had all three of those design elements and came with a composite stock that kept weight and cost to a minimum.

A Virginia judge largely upheld a new state law that expands background checks to all gun purchases, following a challenge by gun rights groups that argued the requirement was unconstitutional. Lynchburg Circuit Court Judge Patrick Yeatts ruled Tuesday that the act was “facially valid” and “facially constitutional,” but issued a narrow injunction blocking the law from applying to gun purchases made by 18- to 20-year-olds.

In 1870 the United States Military purchased 1,000 Smith & Wesson .44 American revolvers. However, they were not satisfied with this first cartridge-firing big-bore revolver and did not order any more. The Russians also ordered Smith & Wesson Americans and, as with the United States Military, were also not satisfied. However, instead of abandoning this new .44 sixgun they set about to improve it.

It always happens. When there is a crisis or a prominent Democrat threatens to criminalize some aspect of the right to keep and bear arms, people run out to buy lots of guns and tons of ammunition. It happened during President Bill Clinton’s first term, when he was campaigning for Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s 10-year “assault weapon ban” and the Brady bill’s five-day waiting period on buying handguns. It happened again in 2012, when President Barack Obama came out for a much more restrictive ban and a slew of other anti-gun initiatives. It also happened after some of the terrorist attacks by Islamic jihadists around the country during Obama’s scandal-ridden administration.

A recent article I wrote on the veto override vote in North Carolina characterized the vote as Rogue Republicans and Democrats Join Forces to uphold NC Governor Veto of Gun Reform. I have been informed that was a misleading headline. I was correct on who voted which way, as far as the sources I used (Legiscan, Ballotpedia and the NC legislative site), which were linked in the article.

The National Association of Regional Game Councils (NARGC) has warned that the decommissioning and replacing guns could cost farmers €241m; between the average cost of €2,720 for a new firearm and added expense of retraining and disposing of old guns.

The National Review online has just published a blistering critique of gun control’s racist history which, author T.S. Furey suggests in the first paragraph, could make the gun control movement “the next casualty of cancel culture.”

“For decades,” writes Furey, a fellow with the London Center for Policy Research, “gun-control advocates promoted greater police power as well as known practices of institutional racism within police firearms-licensing divisions.”

Democrat Sen. challenger Mark Kelly is campaigning on background checks and gun seizures as he tries to unseat pro-Second Amendment Sen. Martha McSally (R-AZ). Kelly’s wife, Gabby Giffords, was shot by an attacker in Tucson on January 8, 2011. That attacker acquired his gun via a background check, yet Kelly is campaigning to expand the point-of-sale opportunities to conduct background checks, with his campaign website suggesting such checks “keep kids and communities safer.”

New Personal Defense ammunition from Federal turns shotguns into the ultimate defensive platform. Force X2 copper-plated 00 FX2 buckshot pellets are specially engineered to split into two equal-size pieces on impact. Shipments of this new product have begun to arrive at dealers. Force X2 utilizes nine splitting pellets to create up to 18 wound channels which improves the transfer of energy from the payload to the target and minimizes the potential for over-penetration reducing the risk to bystanders. Force X2 is also loaded for more manageable recoil, allowing the shooter to stay on target for faster follow-up shots and better accuracy in a self-defense situation.

History of 8x57 JR Ammo

The 8x57 JR, based on the 8x57 J cartridge, is the same as the original 8mm Mauser cartridge except for having a rimmed case. This cartridge is most often found as the third projectile in break-action drilling rifles, topped with two other barrels for 12 or 16 gauge shotshells. The 8mm Mauser JR variant has been produced since the early 1900s, and is becoming less and less common every day – especially for those who shoot outside of Europe. Very few manufacturers continue to produce firearms chambered for this cartridge, with Blaser and Anschuetz being two of them.

Friday, July 10, the Hawaii legislature adjourned the 2020 regular session. With the adjournment, HB 1902, restricting magazine capacity and SB 2635, placing additional restrictions on ammunition purchases, were defeated! Unfortunately, the legislature did pass two anti-gun bills, HB 2744 severely restricting homebuilt firearms and SB 3054 imposing penalties for not reporting the permanent removal of a firearm from the state. HB 2744 and SB 3054 are with the Governor for his consideration. Contact Governor Ige and urge him to veto HB 2744 and SB 3054 by submitting your veto request here.

Last week, I towed first aid to a local protest championing the Movement for Black Lives. I felt elated to witness the coalescence of community, but as a street medic I was too anxious to enjoy the walk. That morning, our surgical service had sent out a department e-mail outlining hospital protocol for mass casualty provisions in preparation for the event. The civilian protestors were not the ones we were afraid of.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Besides the advantage of being armed, which the Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation, the existence of subordinate governments, to which the people are attached, and by which the militia officers are appointed, forms a barrier against the enterprises of ambition, more insurmountable than any which a simple government of any form can admit of. Notwithstanding the military establishments in the several kingdoms of Europe, which are carried as far as the public resources will bear, the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms. — James Madison, The Federalist Papers, No. 46
