Twenty-one people are running to replace embattled Seattle Mayor Ed Murray, and already the local “conventional media” has arbitrarily decided there are six front runners, all of whom might be described as having come from central casting for parts in a remake of “The West Wing.” They are all left-of-center, and one – Jenny Durkan – already has Murray’s endorsement.

The Second Amendment Foundation (SAF) is suing the head of the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) over alleged violations of the gun rights of would-be foster parents. The would-be foster parents, William and Jill Johnson, were trying to secure custody of their grandson when William was reportedly told he had to hand over the serial numbers for every gun in the home to complete the process. William claims the caseworker said, “If you want to care for your grandson you will have to give up some of your constitutional rights.”

Snowflake students? Yes, but we also have snowflake professors. Last year, a law duly enacted in Texas made it legal for people who have concealed-carry permits to bring their weapons on the state’s college campuses. Naturally, a great deal of wailing accompanied that, driven by the usual “Guns are too scary!” crowd.

The McCracken County Sheriff's Department is hoping they can replace their guns without having to ask the county for money. Chief Deputy Mike Turnbow told West Kentucky Star their 40-caliber Glock pistols have been in use by officers since October 2007, and like any mechanical device the possibility of malfunction increases with age. Turnbow said most agencies try to replace their weapons every 10-12 years, and several others in the area are doing it now.

All gun owners are safe with their weapon of choice as long as they receive proper training, according to Ward Lewis, co-owner of Precision Tactical Arms in Crestview. “I don’t think you should discern whether you are a man or woman, whether someone is safe with a gun or not, it’s about the training,” he said. “If someone knows how to use it, that makes it safer.”

The board unanimously voted to approve a total of five changes to the ordinance at the meeting. County Attorney Jim Barnett said the changes came largely from the supervisors.

California has faced a number of setbacks in implementing the state's latest gun-control measures, causing a number of deadlines to be pushed back and leaving some measures in legal limbo. After passing laws that expand the definition of "assault weapon" and make it illegal to possess gun magazines capable of holding more than 10 rounds of ammunition, the state is facing myriad problems in trying to enforce the new laws.

Kimber has risen to the top of the ultra-competitive 1911 market, and that’s no mean feat. There are dozens of 1911 manufacturers and an army of 1911 fans who will take any company to task if its product doesn’t live up to expectations. But there’s an even larger pool of shooters, who are joining the growing wave of concealed-carry permit holders, and for many of those new shooters a full-size 1911 chambered in .45 ACP is simply more gun than they want. The trend has been to develop lighter, smaller carry pistols that are simple to operate easy to hide under light clothing.

Last year, the World Series returned to Cleveland for the first time since 1997. The World Series of the Shooting Sports, however, comes to Ohio every year.

The National Matches have returned to Camp Perry in Port Clinton for the 111th year in a row, and they are loaded. Pun intended? You bet your buttstock.

“The CMP (Civilian Marksmanship Program) conducts 21 rifle matches and seven pistol matches, and the NRA fires 10 pistol matches,” said CMP Marketing Manager Steve Cooper. “With so many different trophies and awards up for grabs, by as many as 5,000 participants, it’s the largest marksmanship and most historic shooting sports event in the U.S.”
