History teaches us that human nature is a constant. That makes for interesting comparisons. 6.5% of American adults did what was required to get their license to carry a concealed firearm in public. Women and minorities are the fastest growing segments of concealed carry holders.. except in California.

In Los Angeles County, California, the issuance rate for permits is about 2200 times lower than the national average. Are the adults in LA significantly different than the rest of us? Doctor John Lott collected the detailed data makes the reason clear.

Not only were the LA permits few and far between, they also went to powerful white men. The prejudice against women and Hispanics is clear..and California judges look the other way.

Medical professionals and politicians huddled Tuesday in Oakland Co. on how they might be able to work together to decrease gun violence.

Employees of Beaumont Farmington Hills Hospital appeared before a committee of the Oakland County Board of Commissioners to discuss what needs to be done.

All agreed that free gun lock programs – like a county initiative that has distributed more than 10,000 locks the past three years – are helpful but educational programs for families and physicians are needed too.

Children need protection from firearms left unattended and accessible in the home.

Young people particularly need to develop conflict resolution skills so they don’t resort to violence, including gunplay, to settle their disputes.

The state house of misrepresentatives has passed a law allowing any legal firearm owner to carry a concealed weapon without a permit, or even any training. You might ask... why?

Except you aren't ever going to get any answer that makes sense from a true gun nut, other than that his firm and totally incorrect belief is that the Second Amendment entitles him to have a powerful killing weapon in his possession at all times.

In this case, there's another reason; your average good ol' boy doesn't like paying the $100 application fee for a concealed weapon permit, plus subsequent fees every few years to renew the license.

Congressman Chris Collins (NY-27) has proposed new measures for protecting Second Amendment rights by introducing legislation to limit states authority when it comes to regulating rifles and shotguns, commonly used by sportsmen and sportswomen.

The Second Amendment Guarantee Act (SAGA) would prevent states from implementing any regulations on these weapons that are more restrictive than what is required by federal law. Upon passage of this bill, most of the language included in New York State’s Secure Ammunition and Firearms Enforcement (SAFE) Act of 2013 signed into law by Gov. Andrew Cuomo would be void.

Most media savvy gun control advocates try to insist that nobody wants to ban guns in America and that anybody who says otherwise is either paranoid or guilty of fear-mongering.

According to a lawsuit filed [by SAF] in a Michigan federal court, however, anti-gun bureaucrats at the state’s Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) are subjecting gun-owing adoptive and foster parents to a stark choice: their Second Amendment rights or their kids.

An Ohio man who pleaded no contest to a misdemeanor domestic-violence charge in 1997 argued before the Sixth Circuit on Wednesday that the federal law preventing him from owning a gun is unconstitutional.

Terry Stimmel sued the U.S. attorney general in Akron federal court in 2014, arguing that a misdemeanor domestic-violence conviction “cannot categorically be labeled a ‘serious’ offense” that precludes gun ownership.

The law at the center of the dispute – 18 U.S.C. § 922(g)(9) – says it is unlawful for anyone “who has been convicted in any court of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence” to possess any firearm or ammunition.

During this rant, the others on the panel grew visibly irritated. “Oh my God,” Joy Behar groaned, as Bila brought up the gun-free zones statistic and Sara Haines tried to interrupt. But Whoopi got the first word in.

“What process?” Whoopi asked. “Gone through which process?” she repeated.

“They’re licensed. They have a gun license,” Bila responded.

“Yes but you do know that to get a gun license you don't actually have to learn how to shoot the gun?” Whoopi said with a smirk on her face as she chuckled.

Clearly shocked by what Whoopi claimed, Bila asked for clarification:

“To get a gun license? Everyone I know who has a gun license has gone through extensive shooting training,” she added.

However, the officers’ version of events differs drastically from that given by Lopez’ wife and their neighbor.

According to Linares, Lopez’ spouse, there was no yelling, and her husband was not armed when he answered the door. All she heard was a series of gunshots shortly after her husband had gotten up, with no instructions being uttered. The couple’s neighbor stated something similar, denying that any yelling had occurred.

As bad as this already sounds, it gets worse: The officers who shot Lopez were at the wrong house.

The National Rifle Association plans to return to Louisville for its annual meeting in 2022, a session expected to attract around 80,000 visitors and pour more than $50 million into the local economy.

The NRA convention is one of the most lucrative pieces of tourism-related businesses, officials say.

The group that strongly supports the Second Amendment and is based in Fairfax, Virginia, has signed a memorandum of understanding pledging to meet in Louisville for a third time in recent years – following conventions in two previous presidential election years, 2008 and 2016.

In addition to his hand-to-hand combat skills, Gracie is also a fan of firearms and the Second Amendment. Shooting Illustrated Editor-in-Chief Ed Friedman sat down with Gracie to discuss his career, his love of freedom and his interest in guns.

FL: How firing a warning shot got a man 20 years in prison

One such muddled situation resulted in a felony conviction for Eric Patrick Wright after he fired a warning shot into the ground at his fiancee’s house. The 24-year-old man with a stable job did so because his angry ex-girlfriend had barged in to confront him and would not leave, and he finally used the gun to scare her off.

Florida law does not allow that, it seems, unless it is actual self-defense rather than an intimidating act to make an unwanted person go away. But deciding if adding a gun to an emotional but so-far non-violent argument was a criminal act, or a lawful act to prevent one, can be tough going for cops and courts.

Concealed Carry Could Be Headed for the Supreme Court

On July 25, a divided three-judge panel of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the D.C. Circuit struck down Washington’s tough local restriction on who can obtain a permit to carry a concealed handgun in public. The ruling conflicted with those of four other intermediate courts of appeal that in recent years have upheld regulations limiting what’s known as “concealed carry.” Resolving such conflicts among the lower courts is one of the Supreme Court’s main responsibilities, and the D.C. case would provide a suitable vehicle for addressing the degree to which the Second Amendment protects an individual’s right to carry a gun outside the home.

Look at their leaders and you know for what they stand. Democrats chose Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN) to help lead the party as the DNC Deputy Chair. Ellison recently argued on NPR’s “Morning Edition” that Twitter should block President Trump. Apparently, Ellison has an issue with the First Amendment. And the Second Amendment. Back in 2012 on Real Time with Bill Maher, Maher said the Democratic Party should come out against the Second Amendment and Ellison responded, “I sure wish they would. I sure wish they would.”

Alaska has the highest rate of gun ownership in the United States. It also has one of the highest rates of gun deaths and injuries, according to a new report by the Alaska Section of Epidemiology.

The report, published Wednesday in the section’s bulletin, examined three statewide databases and found almost 1,500 people were injured or killed by firearms from the start of 2009 to the end of 2015.

Alaska’s rate of firearm deaths is the second-highest in the country, behind only Montana, according to figures compiled by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

The main reason for those deaths and injuries? Suicide.

Coombs sought to force the city's hand by releasing his own pay-ins to the tax. He wrote in a memo to the court that he paid $86,410.63 last year.

The city has only said it collected less than $200,000 and that one business has paid more than 80 percent of the total tax revenue -- by that math, Coombs believe he is that big fish, and estimates the city only brought in about $108,000 total.

Coombs also laid out additional devastating statistics for his business: Outdoor Emporium's firearm sales dropped about 20 percent last year from 2015 and its ammunition sales were cut in half. Overall sales were cut 15 percent because customers who bought guns and bullets also bought other supplies at the store.
