Many shooters take a basic handgun training course and/or complete the fundamental concealed carry licensing or permit class and stop at that point. Sadly, I have learned that several of our beginning students have done this, even after I have encouraged them to continue their handgun training to the next level. And I am not talking about only the mechanics of shooting, like proper grip, stance, sight alignment, sight picture, trigger control, follow-through, and a few use of deadly force laws. I know I felt that I learned so much after my day-long introductory concealed carry course that I felt that I was ready to defend myself in deadly-force situations and did not need further training on the basic mechanics or other skills.

He will be facing felony murder charges for the death of his accomplice as well as other related charges. The victim was not hurt during the exchange. Neither were any others in the parking lot injured.

The vote failed 7-6 with legislators Carlie Chilson, Jim Multer, Dan Banach, Terry Button, Leslie Church, and Rick Willson voting against the resolution. One legislator, Edward Bronson, was absent.

“He believes in smaller government,” Tate said. “He believes that the people in this room can do a better job managing your money than politicians in Washington, DC. He believes in capitalism. He believes in the Second Amendment to the Constitution. He believes in voter integrity. He believes in God and the Bible. Mike Collins believes in the intrinsic value of life and that life matters from the womb to the tomb. He believes we ought to have a strong military. I believe if we send Mike Collins to Washington, DC, I believe he’ll never forget where he came from.”

New York Attorney General Letitia James today announced that 57 firearms were turned in to law enforcement at a gun buyback event hosted by her office, Westchester County Executive George Latimer, Westchester District Attorney Miriam Rocah, and the New Rochelle Police Department. The Office of the Attorney General (OAG) accepts — with no questions asked — working and non-working, unloaded firearms in exchange for compensation on site. To date, Attorney General James has taken more than 2,100 firearms out of communities through gun buyback events and other efforts since taking office in 2019.

“We’ve known that women are the fastest-growing segment of the gun-buying public,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb. “We’re delighted to see so many women joining the firearms community, learning new skills, making new friends and taking more responsibility for their safety and the safety of their families.

“In the process,” he continued, “these new gun owners are learning more about their rights and responsibilities. We have always encouraged new gun owners to seek good safety instruction through local gun ranges or gun clubs so they can become both competent and confident.

A Tulsa man is out of jail for the first time in nearly two years after a jury on Thursday acquitted him of manslaughter in a stabbing at a fast-food restaurant.

Court minutes indicate that jurors deliberated roughly 4½ hours before finding Christian Douglas Cook, 22, not guilty in the death of T’Challa Davis on the morning of Oct. 25, 2019, which Cook argued was in self-defense.

A judge in Wisconsin sided with defense attorneys Friday and denied motions filed by prosecutors seeking to admit evidence at trial showing Kyle Rittenhouse's involvement in a previous fight and his alleged association with the Proud Boys.

Among their multiple motions filed, prosecutors were hoping to admit evidence Rittenhouse had an association with the Proud Boys, a group linked to political violence.

“There’s insufficient evidence right now. They didn’t deny it. They didn’t deny the warrant. Right now, there’s just insufficient evidence to further a complaint,” Petroff said. “If something comes up, through additional investigation, we can still present evidence to the prosecutor.”

Petroff said inconsistent statements from witnesses and a lack of video evidence left a less than clear picture of what led up to the shooting.

“It appears it was a self-defense type situation. The individuals involved were all together that evening. They didn’t know each other, other than through a mutual friend,” Petroff said.

You work the second shift. It is after midnight when you arrive home. You’re walking up to your door when a stranger runs up to you. The stranger is wearing a hooded mask and has a gun in his hands. He orders you inside. You open the door and run inside to grab your gun. The attacker shoots at you. You shoot back. Now, your attacker runs away. You close the door and call 911.

You’re shaking but not hurt. You give a brief statement to the police. You show the police the security video from your front door.

The Board of Supervisors chambers were standing room only on Monday as the body was there to discuss a resolution making Buchanan County a Second Amendment Sanctuary.

Chairman Clayton Ohrt stated he placed the item on the agenda after being contacted by several people and organizations in favor of the status. He began the discussion by reading a letter.

“I would like to start off this morning by reading a very touching letter the supervisors got,” Ohrt said, adding he would not mention the author’s name, but knew he was a veteran.

Friday, U.S. Senate hopeful Jessica Taylor announced she earned the endorsement of rock star and Second Amendment activist Ted Nugent.

According to a release, Nugent endorsed Taylor while attending his Constitution Day celebration in Centreville, Mich.

“The Nugent family, we endorse Jessica Taylor because she will bring back the real America that we all love,” Nugent said in a press release. “Jessica is a freedom warrior unlike other candidates, and I think she’s the one worth your vote because she’ll never back down to the America-hating mob or spineless, soulless RINOs. Jessica Taylor is the true conservative outsider running for Senate and I know she will be a fighter that will always ring the bells of freedom for us.”

Krause said his background as a constitutional lawyer and conservative record in the legislature primes him for the office of Attorney General.

“If you look on mostly every conservative issue that’s come in front of the House — whether it’s pro-life, whether it’s religious liberty, Second Amendment, securing the border — I’ve been at the forefront leading the fight in each of those ways,” he said.

Consider the recent dilettantish screed by Max Boot at the Washington Post. Boot lays the blame for all society’s ills at the feet of the Founders. He decries everything from equal state representation in the Senate to the Second Amendment protection of citizens’ rights to arms. He raises the obligatory cudgel of slavery but ignores the fact the amendment process put in place by the Founders ultimately outlawed the practice. According to Boot, the Constitution is an intractable impediment to well-intentioned government intervention into every aspect of life.

But where there is a problem, there is an opportunity. Capitalism will find a way. One person that looked at the roadblock and saw a chance to move the needle and make a buck was Greg Tanacea. He founded multiple businesses to deal with what he saw as censorship. The first is a marketplace called 2A Gun Show. The second is 2ACommerce which is designed to compete against Stripe. The third is a Shopify alternative called Whalut.com. All three platform work seamlessly and is based on the idea of freedom.

I had a chance to speak with Greg about his background and why he started the company.

Forgive me for revisiting that Gail Collins New York Times column I examined yesterday, but I think it is important to understand the extent to which this kind of ignorance and bigotry shapes the gun-control conversation. Here’s a selection from the comments section on that column. Comments sections are a mixed bag, at best, but this particular remark bears the endorsement of both Gail Collins and the New York Times:

In other words, the signatories want “Smart guns,” micro-stamping, manufacturer oversight of gun dealers, universal background checks, mandatory dealer training, and mandatory recording, reporting and other “metrics” from everyone involved in the “civilian firearms industry.” In addition, Principle 3 would allow a government agency to slow down, stall or stop the background check process to discourage firearm sales.

House Bill 4003 reduces the offense of carrying a handgun on an expired CPL from a felony under current law to a civil fine of $330 as long as it’s within one year of expiration and the person is still legally eligible for a CPL. Permanently stripping Second Amendment rights from an otherwise law-abiding citizen who forgets to renew their CPL does not improve public safety.
