A jury will decide whether the man who led police on the longest manhunt in state history shot his ex-girlfriend in the back because he was angry over their breakup or whether he was defending himself after she shot him. The trial of Robert Burton, 40, of Abbot, who has pleaded not guilty to murder in the June 4, 2015, shooting death of his former girlfriend, Stephanie Ginn Gebo, 37, of Parkman, began Monday at the Penobscot Judicial Center in Bangor.

Authorities have charged three Goose Creek residents with attempted murder after a 79-year-old woman was shot at her home last week. Police said several young men drove up in a car and fired multiple shots at the woman's Pecan Grove Avenue residence in Goose Creek on Thursday afternoon with the intent of killing her grandson. The woman was shot in the shoulder.

Working on campus in a major city comes with some additional challenges, such as traffic, parking and finding a suitable place to live. However, an urban campus can also be a dangerous one. UWT has most of the same criminal incidents as other urban universities: break-ins, vehicle thefts and assault being some of the more common ones. Sexual assault and rape especially catch our eyes when we see it being addressed on social media or in news publications.

A St. Louis man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison for the shooting death of a man in January 2015. The St. Louis Post-Dispatch reports 32-year-old Ramon Demery was sentenced Monday for second-degree murder, armed criminal action and unlawful use of a gun.

A state lawmaker has proposed a bill that would allow Kentuckians to carry concealed firearms without a license. The legislation would allow people aged 21 or older to carry concealed deadly weapons anywhere already allowed for license-holders. Rep. Wesley Morgan, a Republican from Richmond and former agent with the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, said he proposed the bill because he thinks it would bring state law more in line with the Second Amendment.

Its no longer the size of the neighborhood that matters, but how guns are discharged that county officials say they will try to regulate when it comes to firing weapons on private property. Anyone who carelessly or recklessly discharges a weapon anywhere in unincorporated Horry County while disregarding the safety of life or property would face jail and a fine, according to an ordinance under consideration by the county.

In a wildly sensationalist screed published September 15, the Washington Post burnished its anti-gun agenda without regard to truth. In its Children Under Fire piece, the Post seemed to rely on emotional appeals in order to make its point: Youngsters are being shot at a terrible rate and something must be done! The reader is left to imagine just what must be done, but its likely to have little to do with supporting the Second Amendment.

Watching movie characters use guns may not necessarily make kids more likely to pick up a weapon themselves, but it may mean children who play with guns are more apt to fire them, a new experiment suggests. For the experiment, researchers had children watch a 20-minute clip from the PG-rated films The Rocketeer or National Treasure. The kids were randomly assigned to watch either an unedited version of the clip, or a version in which scenes showing guns were edited out but the action and narrative of the film were not altered.

Two handguns were stolen from the vehicle of an off-duty officer from Taft, a city in Kern County, while it was parked near the Oakland airport late Monday morning, Oakland police said. The officers vehicle was broken into while it was parked in the 400 block of Hegenberger Road at 11:16 a.m. Monday, according to Oakland police spokeswoman Johnna Watson.

It was a fairly peaceful Saturday afternoon in the old West town. The dusty gravel street had a few people meandering about between the print shop, the general store and the doctors office. Others stood idly on the wooden sidewalks. Suddenly off near the saloon, a couple of drunks began shouting and waving their guns between swigs from the whiskey bottle theyd been passing back and forth. A sheriffs deputy tried to reason with them a little, but everybody knew what was going to happen. One sot took aim at the deputy, and a few bangs later, both lay dead in the street, the bottle leaking next to the bodies.

A former Tennessee police officer who was arrested outside the White House on Sunday had a cache of weapons in his car and told authorities he came for help removing a chip he thought had been implanted in his head, according to court documents. Several of the firearms were loaded and some were described as assault-style weapons, including an AR-15 and an AK-47, according to authorities.

Police are investigating three separate gun store break-ins that happened over the weekend in the Grand Rapids area. The incidents happened Saturday night and early Sunday morning. Police say more than a dozen handguns were stolen in one of the break-ins. The first break-in happened at about 10:30 p.m. Saturday at Rylees Ace Hardware, 1234 Michigan St. NE. The suspects smashed glass doors to get into the store but were unable to gain access to weapons, police said.

Police are still searching for a suspect after nearly three dozen guns were stolen last week in Roseburg. The break-in Tuesday happened at the Waldron's Outdoor Sports store. According to Roseburg Police, the suspect broke through a window and took 33 guns from the store in the early morning hours.
