A Rice Township police report about the June 20 incident says the officer, walking to the area where the gunfire was coming from along Church Road, had his hand on his holstered weapon, but never drew the gun as he repeatedly shouted “police.”

As the officer approached, Taney “became very irate, yelling that he was doing nothing wrong and knew his rights,” the report says.

Taney was target shooting into a densely wooded area behind his house. The officer checked with the township police chief, who told him no crime was being committed and there was nothing he could do unless Taney was shooting in an unsafe manner. No charges were filed.

From the middle of the article, another of the supervisors..."defended the push for the gun ban in the municipal building in the wake of the shooting at a municipal building in Monroe County."

His "logic" goes like this: Someone violates laws against shooting at people, so let's pass another law that they would certainly violate if they intend to violate the shooting people law, because that will make us safer.

This is a case of a bunch of busy bodies that don't like guns trying to cause trouble.
