Most United States citizens could carry a concealed handgun nearly everywhere in Idaho without a permit under a bill approved Monday by the House State Affairs Committee.
The bill would close the final gap in Idaho’s constitutional carry law, Rep. Christy Zito, R-Hammett, said.

“The Second Amendment protects and preserves that right, and the state of Idaho has a duty to protect the constitution and all the rights endowed upon us there.”

Words mean things. This is an excellent sentence, perfect were it not for this unfortunate phrase "endowed upon us". The Constitution doesn't "endow" rights, it guarantees them. The rights are endowed by our Creator, or by the laws of nature, if you prefer.

That phrase should be replaced with the simple, succinct word "guaranteed." The notion that our rights are "endowed" by any instrument or decree is dangerous, and the difference should be hammered home.

 QUOTES TO REMEMBER
Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty or safety. Nor, are they likely to end up with either. — Benjamin Franklin
